  1. I don't understand why everyone is getting their pinny's in a knot over this.? Gregor is just doing his job, as some one else stated, he is a journalist at a football club, who has to keep his readership interested, or else he is out of a job? Trying to come up with copy everyday is not always easy, and he is merely putting forward his own idea, to provoke comment and discussion...........which he has obviously achieved?. Personally I don't see that much wrong with his suggestion, I have heard worse. And as for Nige being bothered or concerned about Gregor\s article? He probably isn't even aware of it?..........and if he has read it?, I'm certain he couldn't care less, as he has many more important issues to deal with than one man's opinion? ? . . .

  2. Dasilva is a much better wingback than he is a full back, and Zak has shown that he can very useful going forward. Not such a ridiculous suggestion…

  3. Gregor is doing his job. Its all just click bait and nothing more. Its fake drama to get you to visit the site and get talking aboutit. G McG knows it and NP knows it too.

  4. Reads like the sort of lengthy posts we see on here more than a piece of journalism. I like Gregor, and have defended him recently re his "altercations" with Pearson. This reads strangely though...is it really his job to make tactical suggestions to the manager in such a public way? There's no question here, no scoop, exclusive, or new piece of news that no one knows. It's just speculation, postulation, and a slightly odd sign off. A real weird one. Agree with this as well. It seems very early to start criticising team selection and formation. We haven't even lost a league game yet this season.

  5. Gregor trying to get a rise and a exclusive at the same time out of Pearson. Coming across as a dick now

  6. Just don't get the fascination with MacGregor on this forum. Poor journalist on a a terrible 'newspaper'. Two threads on the first page dedicated to him - he must be loving the attention and determined to get more at Pearson's expense. He really is the Bristol Rovers of sports reporters.

  10. Considering Vyner and Dasilva don’t suit playing wingback, it’s not a great shout really is it? The relationship between Gregor and Pearson is strange, feel like another memorable Pearson quote is round the corner…

  11. What a clown: ”Pearson once famously asked a news reporter if he was 'flexible enough to get his head in the sand', as an ostrich does. Bristol Live, in turn, asks Nigel Pearson if he is flexible enough to get his head out of the sand, revert to a 3-5-2, play his best players and see his team go on to get good results.” https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/one-simple-change-could-making-5786204

  12. No, because it isn’t their job. Pearson pretty much confirmed that he’s wedded to a back four this week, so I have no idea why Gregor is even suggesting this. Also, he talks about a way for us to score more goals & even though it is an admittedly small sample size, we’ve scored 3 in 2 games, so hardly a drought. It really is a bizarre article, which claims we were flying at the start of last season by playing Weimann, Wells & Martin together but then neglects to mention Paterson’s role presumably, because as he isn’t here any more it doesn’t fit with his suggestion. The players at the back in that run in this formation were Hunt (RWB), Rowe (LWB), Mawson, Taylor & Vyner, so as only one of those is in the side at the moment & he’s playing in a different position & 3 of them have left, it really is a weird one.

  13. A magical RWB that we can sign and will bomb forward and make the 352 we've tried for two years suddenly tick? Seems pretty pie-in-the-sky stuff to me.

  22. What a weird, childish paragraph. Pearson has named one league side this season and Wells wasn’t in it. This article would make more sense if he didn’t play the next 6 games and we were in the bottom three. Mcgregor has obviously thought how he can hit back at Pearson but he’s got this one a bit wrong. Lovely circus entertainment though !

  23. Morning all, I’ve done a little reading of our greatest ever matchday thread author’s posts and I’ve attempted to write this tribute in his unique style. Truth be told his threads take one of two forms; reminiscing about fixtures of years gone by, or Marvelous historical references that appear to Segway out of nowhere. With history not my strong point I shall attempt the former. It feels entirely fitting that it’s likely that at a little over 1,600 miles away, I’m probably in with a good shout at being the OTIB member who’s geographically closest to Havana, Cuba. Today’s game sees us rekindle our favourite love/hate relationship with Ken Dodd lookalike Neil Warnock and his Middlesbrough team. To reminisce about our fixtures with the kings of smog, I’ll take you back to the 06/07 season. Plying our trade in league one, we’d eventually win promotion back to the championship, finishing second only to a A Scunthorpe team spearheaded by 30 goal Billy Sharpe (wonder what happened to him?) But the 4th round draw of the FA Cup that year would see us draw Gareth Southgate’s Premier League Boro (wonder what happened to him?). A pasting was on the cards as we fell 2 behind to two early goals at Ashton Gate - Yakubu and Malcolm Christie - seemingly irrecoverable, until 50 something minute goals for a player made famous for shouldering the blame in a drunken car crash in Derby and another who didn’t enjoy a short holiday in Reading would score to take the replay to The Cold & probably wet Riverside Stadium. This time we’d go ahead through David Noble only to be pegged back by Mark Viduka. The game would go to extra time, and a late Boom-Boom goal would cancel out Yakubu’s extra time goal to take the game to penalties, which we lost 5-4, the decisive penalties missed by Craig Woodman and scored by future Paedo in the making Adam Johnson. But plucky Bristol City had done a job in those two ties and given themselves the confidence to have the consistency to climb into the Championship. Today’s opponents are a different kettle of fish to that of 06/07. We’re up against our favourite pantomime villain, only this time managed by our own. Not unlike ourselves, Middlesbrough have established themselves as a championship team, only having done so by coming down through the trap door, rather than our upwards trajectory (although this trajectory is somewhat questionable!). I invite you to raise a toast to Hav and all of our other OTIB friends who are now supporting from way up higher than the upper tier of The Lansdown Stand. To those who are no longer with us. COYRs.

  24. Agree in the main….the Man Utd game / performance wasn’t what we saw each game, some were very workmanlike, attritional victories, especially at home. They key for me was how condensed we were and able to pressure teams on the ball, and keep the pressure on when we had it. The personnel changed as you say….but those autumn months were great to watch from my point of view, because I saw a “team” and what looked like a plan.

  25. Has Zak shown it? Not seen it myself but happy to be proven wrong by any stats. We've also started working on a new system that is going to take time to work out, unless the switch to 3-5-2 would be permanent we need to work through the difficulties of getting used to a new system. I prefer Dasilva at left back too but think he's more comfortable at wingback then Vyner.

  26. Let's hope so. Gregor is a very sad example of a journalist and shows what he thinks of City by now trying to undermine Pearson. Kick him out.

  27. For info, he wasn’t suggesting Dasilva and Pring as the two WBs, but one of them….then suggested finding a RWB might be easier than a striker.

  30. Gregor, the new tinker/tombola man. We looked decent in our opening match, created enough chances and were organised, so let’s rip that up after one championship match! My biggest criticism of LJ was that he kept tinkering with the formation, often during matches, so no wonder we looked disorganised at times. LJ’s best spell was in 2017 when he had less players available and stuck to the team that had Reid as 9 and Pato at 10. So if Pearson thinks our current formation is the best chance of competing in the Championship, that’s good enough for me. Plenty of time for Wells to get game time even in the current formation.

  31. Did Richard Latham tell TC or Bug Joe what formation they should be picking? Or Peter Godsiff pontificate to Fred Ford or Alan Dicks?? Generating clicks on his employer's garbage website is one thing but this smacks of a death wish. Funny, though.

  33. Gregor is acting like a keyboard warrior imo. Would he have the cajones to say that line to Pearson's face? He is only guaranteeing more treatment in future pressers.

  34. It won’t be long before one of them gets a poke in the eye, and it won’t be Nige…. Gregor is in way beyond his depth with someone as slick and professional as NP, time for him to find another niche for his reporting skills other than BCFC?

  35. That’s the problem, they want to control all output…. That leaves Gregor with little option but to be controversial and challenge the club and manager. The snippet above might be childishly positioned but ultimately asking about 3 at the back is only reflecting what plenty of fans on here have been saying.

  41. Old bean, you seem to have inadvertently staggered into the “take the piss out of Rovers” thread and been perturbed that there’s piss taking of Rovers. Much like when you - Inadvertently staggered into the transfer forum and was discombobulated to see potential transfers discussed - Inadvertently staggered into the politics forum and was horrified to see people with informed opinion on political discourse - Inadvertently staggered into a thread on veganism and was flabbergasted to see vegan based discussion Its a f*ng minefield this place…

  42. Cheers Oz No, it's been a pretty crap year for me as is well documented on here. However, I have always maintained a phone call can change your life in a minute. Basically I retired back in March 2020 which suited me what with covid and issues with my Mum & Wife. Now with Mum having passed and Wife now on the road to recovery my main issue has been boredom. I am 62 years old and my brain needs to be stimulated. Not by going fishing, gardening or shopping but by things that make me think. To cut a short story long I have taken up the offer of a position with a major London council working on the supply of new social housing. From work I've done in the past this will be easy and i can split my time between here and London. Start next Monday and just can't wait. This will certainly boost my mental wellbeing rather than just sitting and dwelling on things. It's my way of pulling myself together and saying "bollox to all this". It should work out but equally it may not. Either way I've given it a go. Strangely some business associates who dropped me like a stinky turd during the dark times are now all back in contact wanting to meet up. On my conditions only the lot of them. Conversely some others were fantastic throughout and we will certainly continue the friendships on both a business and personal level. I suppose the point I am trying to make is that sometimes we need to look at ourselves and get through the difficult times. Not easy i understand. As I said, some will drop you but true friends will stand with you. It is only them I want in my life.

  47. One bit of GOOD news. Better late than never and it's about 2 years too late, in fact it's a loophole that should never have been opened, it's still unclear as to why it was- odd typo by Kieran Maguire. I do recall Stoke were mooted to be selling it or looking at it...the Land Registry still shows nothing. ? Wouldn't it be hilarious if they were planning to do it this season and found that it was now not permitted for P&S. ? I would also add, Training Facilities should also be on the list of Profits on Fixed Assets excluded for P&S- maybe all Fixed Assets should be- and furthermore, there should be a strictly stated method for Amortisation for P&S purposes. There was another loophole that pissed me off as well, but I cannot now recall- it needs closing and indeed should have been some time ago.
