  1. I'm not responsible for, or necessarily in agreement with, everything which is said or done by my fellow supporters. I've always tried to be honest when commenting on things which have happened at the club, be they good or bad. @Bar BS3seems to have a bit of personal vendetta, unfortunately without any wit to make it entertaining. I totally get that it seems a bit odd that I post on here, although, for me, it's largely been a positive experience.

  2. What nonsense. Sitting in an office for 8 hours a day and performing at a very high athletic level for 90 minutes a week on instinct adrenaline and talent in front of 20,000+ people couldn't be more different. I honestly think your post is one of the worst I've ever seen on otib, and that is saying an awful lot.

  3. Your opinions are valued by the majority on here, ITN, just as other sensible fans from many other clubs are. Can you go and find Miah Dennehy though, and bring him back ?

  5. I must be honest and say that I am not sure why the posts about various Gashead delusions are being aimed at you. There have been several different posters from the other side, that have posted here one or two seem a bit silly, but you are one of the ones that contributes well and doesn't deserve to be castigated.

  7. Indeed. But still a decent wage, and Reading are well over then FFP threshold, plus on some sort of embargo i think? @Mr Popodopolous? It just makes a bit of a mockery of us, playing by the rules. Just like Derby signing Baldock, because of an injury to Kasim-Richards. Just deal with injury like we had to last season. Either you are on a hard embargo or you're not.

  8. I like to get honest views In The Net and like your posts. You’ll always get supporters from both clubs who are not so friendly, but that’s football. Keep posting mate.

  9. But that's the point isn't it. 6,000 for a league two side is pretty decent. And if 15er fans went around saying that that they have a slightly above average fanbase for league two, then I don't think any of us would argue. However, when you (your fans in general, not necessarily you personally) go around boasting of how amazing your fanbase is and how you consistently "pack the mem" then yes, 6,000 is indeed a pitiful attendance.

  11. Please dont mate, I had a breakdown at 45. I am now going through a sh*tter at 70. My plans came to nothing in life but I will get through it, so will you,

  12. I think I might go, still trying to catch up on all the lost live football so it’s either Torquay or Exeter. I think it’ll be Exeter especially now Owura Edwards has gone on loan there.

  16. Then you are very much in a minority. The majority of Gasheads are totally deluded when it comes to supporting the blue quarter(s) of Bristol. Faithful and True. Massive fan base. Big fish in a small pond. Take 40k (26k in actual figures) to Wembley. Massive away following - the envy of many clubs (all of which LOVE ROVERS and HATE THE SHIT by the way!) Most believe their 'perceived' massive fan base means that they are a big club who deserve to be in the Championship and at least one place higher than DA SHIT! Oh....and your comment about remembering the 1970's....Well, you are definitely a true Gashead then. You couldn't be a proper Gashead if you didn't reminisce about the Tote End, Smash 'n' Grab, Paul Randall and the famous bore fest penalty shoot out lottery win over Sheffield United in the Watney Cup. Being stuck somewhere between 1972-1978 in terms of memory defines your average Gashead.....with splashing of 2nd May and a bit of 1982. ?

  17. 1984. Us .......... Div 4 average attendance 7,287 (high of 12,810) Them ..... Div 3 average attendance. 5,550 (high of 7,568) 1984 was an all time low for attendances , that figure of 7,287 was better than 7 clubs in League 2 (Championship) including Cardiff & Swansea. Their average was 6th in their division. Only 10 clubs averaged over 20k that year. Average for 3rd tier was under 5k & 4th tier under 3k . Different times.

  18. The last time you averaged 20k was 1958.

  19. This cracks me up as well. They’re over the moon that he’s turned them down with their “we can do better than him...” attitude. ...and I’m thinking, you’ve just been turned down by John Akinde, I doubt Harry Kane is waiting for Joey to ring him ?

  20. No we weren’t...but as has been explained about 500 times, not many clubs WERE getting 20k+ in the early 80s. 4-5k gates were common place in the bottom 2 divisions and Ashton Gate and Eastville were no exception for various reasons. Comparing today’s crowds with those in that time period is pointless as no one comes out of it looking good.
    1 point
  21. Of course, you were still getting 20,000 at Ashton Gate when you were in the old 4th division. Very generous of you.

  22. Yet there will be some dopey sags going "thinks he's better than he is, go to the non league because that's the standard he's good for". Then they might realise that said non league player was approached BY THEM! 19 and gets dogs abuse (sorry Darrell) from his "own" fans because of his connections to us. Then they wonder why he doesn't want to sign for them years later

  23. Anyone can ask their current employer if they can go part time. Instead of retiring and then looking for a part time job, just do less with your current job. Ive just done it to see how it goes, I’m 10 years from getting my pension but mortgage and debt free so working 3 days a week feels like a good work- leisure ballance. So far so good but already I’m thinking in the winter I’ll be pleased to have those 3 days at work, not just financially but to keep busy when the golf course is closed and it’s too cold, wet and rough for kayaking or fishing

  24. @Tre Bong please look here: https://www.wetalkclub.com/ Founded in Bristol a couple of years ago, it's spread all around the UK and beyond. "Talk Club is a Male Mental Fitness Movement. It’s a talking and listening club for men. It’s a support network for ways to keep mentally fit. It’s a community of men looking after each other. It’s here to remind all men that they are not alone, that other men feel exactly the same way they do, and if we share our feelings we can become mentally strong. Together we can change the way we look after our mental health and end suicide."

  27. Akinde has turned down a move to the Pikeys. https://www.kentonline.co.uk/medway/sport/gills-striker-akinde-rejects-league-2-switch-252506/ Looks like he may go to the National League instead.

  28. As I said before I think that that is fair. The FA told them to play the FA Cup match, whilst the squad had players isolating. They therefore fielding a team with lots of non-first team players in it. In my view to count those players towards the permitted squad level is not fair in the circumstances. It would be different if they had chosen to include a few such players in the starting 11 for the experience.

  29. Hmmm two ideas to increase attendances, first up kick off on a weekday afternoon, which is fine if you do **** all else. And, forcing a colleague to go is commonly known as kidnap. gasheadontour Reserve Team 4 hours ago Quote Earlier Kick-off's could lead to higher attendances as more people would go straight from work and take work colleagues with them - rather than go home and then can't be bothered to go to the match.

  30. My original post was in response to somebody who didn't know who Chris Lines was, and I said it's pretty much the same for me with current City players, because the two clubs have not played each other for a long time, so I have no reason to be up to date with who is in your squad. I could probably name your complete team which got promoted to the old Division One, along with a lot of players from the 1980's, 1990's, and maybe a bit later. These days there is nothing in common, unless we get drawn together in a cup again. I do spend quite a lot of time on here, I've said before that there are some interesting debates, and the humour is generally good. I'm mainly in this thread or the mental health one, along with any more general football related threads which may catch my interest. Sorry if I have offended you with my lack of knowledge - I'm just being honest. I wouldn't expect many people on here to know our current (or recent) players.

  31. Last season or so we have been poor but over the last 5 years the profile of Bristol City and its players have never been higher since the 70s . To say you are in our shadow in an understatement. , you team is on the dark side of the moon in footballing terms. I’ve worked around the country and if you weren’t a avid football fan you would not be aware that Bristol had two clubs . Bristol Rovers is on par with Barnet , Wycombe, York City , that is your level. The only similarity between Bristol City and Bristol Rovers is that we both have Bristol in our name.

  32. @Mr Popodopolous and @Hxj many thanks for your updates on this thread. You are both it appears specialists, and I enjoy trying to understand both of your rationales of quite complex situations. My issue with the whole issue of FFP is thus..... There appears to be a block of clubs within the Championship who either seem from an ethical or moralistic point of view that FFP is merely some form of an advisory concept; and the full ramifications of what it entails doesn't apply to their particular club (Derby, Birmingham, Reading, Sheff Wed; when they were in the league). Even Stoke have posted a £54m loss for last season alone. Then there are others that stick to the rules, in particular Gibson at Boro; and of course our own Lansdown. The aforementioned clubs feel that they can drag out the process for eternity, and that the EFL are toothless. My question in a way is either the EFL are strong enough/able enough to withstand these legal challenges or they're not. Clubs are obviously gambling on getting promoted, and then being governed by a different board (PL). They then do a deal with the EFL in the background to pay off any fine that they would have incurred if they hadn't been promoted with the vast riches from the PL. I see that in L1 & L2 they seem to have have done away with all salary caps this season, after the legal challenge. Is that still the case moving forward? A number of clubs (Of which Ipswich of course, and Wigan are good examples). Seem to be taking the opportunity to spend vast amounts of money on whole new squads. It's no surprise that a number of players that you thought would be playing in the Championship have gone to L1 clubs therefore. From my own viewpoint. Clubs appear to be punished for trying to do the right thing, and stay within the £39m threshold; and with regard to us, this is of course having a huge impact on our club at the moment. Whilst others, flout the rules; and are willing to take the risk of charges coming years down the line. If the FFP can't be enforced on a rigorous basis, within a set period of time. Then is it fit for purpose? The parachute payments afforded to relegated clubs, already make it a completely unfair playing field anyhow. Do clubs have to sign a set of rules, that require them to adhere to FFP? I would think that as a Ltd company they of course have obligations around tax, NI; and VAT and these are governed by laws. What is the FFP governed by? A hypothetical set of rules that more conscience owners abide by, or something more concrete. Apologies for the numerous questions. But the whole FFP debate, when the PL, & L1 & L2 seem to have abandoned any protocols seems completely futile.

  35. After reading your post, I was interested enough to wonder what the leagues would look like if we based everything on average attendance. I found the 2019-20 stats ( http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn/aveeng.htm ) for the last pre-covid attendances and then sorted them into one big list and then put them into divisions. Obviously it's a flawed way of judging teams, but (purely on attendance) it shows that we are not crazy to think we should be pushing for the Championship play offs. Whereas Rovers should be grateful at a mid table League One place. Talk of the Championship for them is insanity.

  36. Cheers Oz No, it's been a pretty crap year for me as is well documented on here. However, I have always maintained a phone call can change your life in a minute. Basically I retired back in March 2020 which suited me what with covid and issues with my Mum & Wife. Now with Mum having passed and Wife now on the road to recovery my main issue has been boredom. I am 62 years old and my brain needs to be stimulated. Not by going fishing, gardening or shopping but by things that make me think. To cut a short story long I have taken up the offer of a position with a major London council working on the supply of new social housing. From work I've done in the past this will be easy and i can split my time between here and London. Start next Monday and just can't wait. This will certainly boost my mental wellbeing rather than just sitting and dwelling on things. It's my way of pulling myself together and saying "bollox to all this". It should work out but equally it may not. Either way I've given it a go. Strangely some business associates who dropped me like a stinky turd during the dark times are now all back in contact wanting to meet up. On my conditions only the lot of them. Conversely some others were fantastic throughout and we will certainly continue the friendships on both a business and personal level. I suppose the point I am trying to make is that sometimes we need to look at ourselves and get through the difficult times. Not easy i understand. As I said, some will drop you but true friends will stand with you. It is only them I want in my life.
