  4. https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/fitter-faster-stronger-the-city-way/ Really interesting watch. Goes into some detail regarding fitness programs, loading and injury prevention. Some interesting graphs showing improvement on last season in there as well. Certainly inspires confidence that the players fitness and performance is in good hands. Worth 15 mins of your time.

  7. Oh dear, really? I would disagree and remind those who may read this reply, what John Motson said of Jacki when playing for us at Leicester City in a midweek televised game, which we won with style. Motty said, ºJacki Dziekanowski comes from another Country, but tonight he is playing like he is from another planetº Jacki as Andy Cole said, was a one off. He is also a kind man who, when us fans organized Gerry Gows testimonial game, he gladly accepted the invitation to fly back to play to Bristol from Warsaw. I must tell you that when I collected him from the Airport to my surprise, he had come armed with a suitcase full of tee shirts that he had designed and had made in Poland before flying, so that we could auction them at the game in order to help us to raise funds for a young Bristol boy who required an operation in the US to assist his Cystic Fibrosis, it was a kind gesture. Jacki was an exciting footballer, sadly we had few of those over the years, he was also one with a good heart.

  8. Blah blah blah, every ******* time Jacki is mentioned. He was a legend for precisely the reasons you moan about him, you don't get it, we don't care.

  14. Many omit that in addition to being a legend at AG he, to this day, is worshipped at Celtic Park. I've lost count of the number of times I've bumped into Celtic fans and when they learn of my allegiance talk turns to but one name and the beers start to flow. Unlike us, Celtic have had some big names and performances but few are more fondly recalled than Jacki's 4 goals (he made their 5th) that night against Partizan. It's talked of as the greatest single display ever up there. Strangely, I've never heard Celtic fans bemoan that he wasn't much of a team player.....wonder why?

  17. Biggest issue last year was the rehab and reintroduction of injured players. Essentially we seemed to rehab poorly, and reintroduce too early, and so we had players get recurring or new injuries. Williams probable the most egregious example. This season, and I note that the season is just 11 league games old, we seem to be doing better in this regard. Williams came back, got a knock in the FGR game, and then was managed back so that now (touch wood) he seems able to play consistently.

  31. If you want to try a real quirky pub - unfortunately it’s not in Bristol - try The Rose and Crown (known as Eli’s) at Huish Episcopi, near Langport. There is no bar in this pub! Really strange when I first went in there, someone just wandered up and asked what we’d like to drink, then returned with the drinks and asked for money. This pub, which has been in the same family for over 100 years, is apparently what all pubs used to be like back in the day, and particularly before WW1? Bars in pubs were only put in to stop drinkers helping themselves to free drinks, somehow this one survived and may be is now unique in that sense. Well worth a visit for good beer and ciders.

  34. I like the way you say early years, the 80s (nearly 40 years ago) and the Stones had already been around for 20! People/journo’s also tend to forget that Brian Jones founded the Rolling Stones, not Mick & Keith. I expect Mick & Keith do too.

  36. Following Charlie Watts’ recent death, I read a story from the Stones early years. In the 80s Jagger’s ego was causing problems in the band. He and Richards got back to their hotel in the early hours and Jagger decided to call Charlie Watts, shouting down the phone “where’s my drummer”. 20 minutes later Charlie walks into Jagger's room, lifted him up by the lapels and knocked him over with a right hook. “I’m not YOUR drummer” said Watts, “You’re MY singer!"

  37. Couldn’t agree more, any decent amount of time watching City and genuine, wow, skill is found rarely. Jacki had that in abundance, light years ahead of Tomlin and JET and proven at a much higher level. The team he was asked to play in was the equivalent of asking Viv Richards to play with Moreton-in-the-Monster-Mash 4ths. Most exciting player I’ve seen since starting watching in 74/75. Wouldn’t beat Gow, Super Bob or some others to all time favourite, but would be in my all time starting XI, as every now and then, football can be about joy and thrills, as well as (also very enjoyable) effort and guts. Remember a flick over his head in the penalty area against Ipswich at AG, that no one else I’ve seen for City would have tried (apart from Brian Mitchell). Joy to watch. Still got a couple of ‘Solidarnosc’ t shirts.
