  1. Pretty sure the wealth they got all super excited about at the start “Premiership in 5 years, unlucky the shit” was the total combined family wealth & everyone else from Jordan has now walked away from Rovers. Think there was also an older brother involved initially & he was taking flak from the few for not allowing Wael to spend more? I would say he’s probably worth circa £50m, which seems a lot for the level they now play at, though in comparison Dale Vince of the vegans just up the road is worth double that. Their problems stem from the fact that they have a dilapidated ground & if stories are true, very high wages in comparison to the level they play. When you add in that they have been on a downward trajectory for years, are getting smaller & smaller gates (today’s will be horrendous) & Barton now appears toxic to a fair percentage even of their idiotic fan base, the outlook looks grim. ******* brilliant, isn’t it?

  2. As you can well imagine, this piqued my interest! It’s a really insightful article, probably dispels some myth, or at least clarity as to how things are working now. I especially like the bit about the clarity Nige provides. Long, but very worthwhile read. Nice one Gregor ??????

  3. My understanding of the cenotaph event was that people from many different walks of life, including large numbers from BCFC and BRFC stood to defend a memorial to those that never made it home from various conflicts. There were hells angels there and many other groups. There was no political element to it atall and there were signs stating just this. It shouldn't have been needed tbh but there were cenotaph attacks in London and Portsmouth which I find deplorable so totally agree with anyone that surrounded and protected the cenotaph when there was the possibilityof damage. Am I CSF, certainly not, just a bloke who thinks some things are worth defending. Do I know the CSF? I used to back in the day, most City fans knew them, but not nowadays.

  4. No I see nothing racist in a mixed race group using the words All Lives Matter. How can that be a clearly racist act? Literally it is not. There is no reference to race. Its illogical to suggest it was undeniably racist. The slogan used by a non far-right multi racial group was undeniably anti racist. The words meant exactly what they say .. All Lives Matter.

  5. The sooner they go the better. I'm not interested in any so-called rivalry, that's well in the past now. One team in Bristol - the sooner that's literally the case, the better.

  8. Was gonna suggest BCW too. I was at SGS College this morning for a college open day for Joe, and spent a lot of time looking out over the football pitches where they were undertaking training. Thought they’d moved to HPC but perhaps not in their entirety. Whilst not trying to compare to the men’s game, it’s hard not to, and I’ve been a bit disappointed by what I’ve seen at times over the last season or so. However watching them move the ball in a training “match” today I have upped my opinion….some really good technical ability. Worth contacting the club and see if you could get something a bit more special, e.g. meet a few players too….might make your grand-daughter’s day.

  9. Ffp limits the amount of losses an owner can underwrite, in effect how much he/she can directly invest in the playing side of things. However there is no such restriction on investment in infrastructure. The old AG produced ticket sales on match days, but relatively little other revenue. I think I'm right in saying that we were the only championship club without any corporate boxes. The new AG generates greater match day income but also on other days because of the corporate facilities now available. All the revenue generated by the stadium can be used on the playing side. Similarly SL can invest in the academy, which he has. Developing our own players not only saves on transfer fees and wages if we produce championship able players, but if those players are good enough and want to play at a higher level, e.g Lloyd Kelly, then it generates larger profits on sale, which can be reinvested on the playing side. I am sure the investment in the stadium will enhance the asset value but in this case I am pretty sure there was wider motivation around the benefit to the club in terms of longer term financial sustainability.

  10. Sadly it seems one of their players died this week and an autopsy was peformed. I'm not sure why they had to burn his heart afterwards? Could explain some of the recent poor performances though. "Barton will also have centre-half Connor Taylor available for the visit of Carlisle after he was cleared by the medical staff this week. “We took him off (against Swindon) because we thought it was concussion,” Barton explained. “He went down and had a dizzy spell. "In the autopsy after that, it wasn’t a concussion, nobody touched him or got near him. “He had like a panic attack. His heart rate and breathing had become irregular. He’s had it in his career before. “Forgive me because I’m a football coach and not a surgeon, but it’s something to do with something in his heart that needs burning. Seriously though that press conference is batsh*t crazy, I have some medical experience, albeit not in psychiatry but I think he needs some sort of psychiatric help.

  11. Mate. I’m far from a snowflake. I go away a lot, I’ve done 2/3 of away games this year. I just think that I, and probably 99% of fans don’t need idiots “protecting us” when they are the people that cause it. If following city away 66% of games, having a season ticket and wanting my kid not to have to put up with thugs is a snowflake, I’ll take that any day. But you play your own game.

  26. We were top pretty much all season and ultimately camecaway with nothing, title wise. I think the plan must be this year to fly under the radar and nick a playoff spot at the last moment and win the bloody Premiership. ? We certainly looked weaker by losing Max, Ben and Siale. But it must have been a huge blow mentally for the players to lose Semi a couple of weeks ago, they must be looking at eachother and wondering what is possible. Don’t underestimate the late loss of Luatua last evening either, he is vital.

  28. It can be accepted as a fact that these tossers exist, nobody is disputing that. But they should not be legitimised by the press the way the article that spawned this thread did. Nobody cares if they are right wing, left wing, racist, bright pink, whatever. They are no mark thugs and deserve no credit or respect whatsoever. All they deserve is society's contempt.

  29. Its laughable mate. The bottom line is rightly or wrongly firms, violence and the casual culture are a part and parcel of football in this country and across Europe. Am I condoning innocent fans being caught up in incidents of violence? of course not but lets be brutally honest the match day experience for familys has become absolutely excellent in modern day football in the UK. The days of mass disorder at grounds in this country are done. When was the last time anyone can remember disorder at Ashton Gate that involved familys or innocent fans being involved and or hurt? Swansea at home for me was the last time i can remember disorder (if you can even call it that) on a largeish scale.. a few scuffles between like minded fans at the bottom of the Dolman all over within minutes and some of perpetrators got handed custodial sentences.. people need to take into context how few and far between these incidents are now especially inside grounds, it’s almost unheard of. Disorder happens away from the ground so it baffles me as to why people even think the CSF has any effect on their life or match day experience, it’s odd that people on here are so passionate about a sub - culture that doesn’t effect them. Firms and the casual culture will continue to exist in this country and across Europe as ultimately whether the left want to accept it or not football will always continue to be a working class tribal sport and will continue to attract that element of individual to follow it. People need to accept that fact IMO.

  30. “Everybody wants to play for us” ”they look at our pitch and look at our fans” ”we get the best version of everyone” He’s 100% trying to curry favour with the fan base/get copy out there shifting the blame so that when inevitably given the boot, he can claim to future employers it wasn’t his fault and he was in an impossible situation. His ‘blame everyone but himself’ style is gross; whether it was at the sags or anywhere else, I’d say the same. Possibly for the first time, I pity their fans; lunatic in charge of the asylum.

  32. Yep the people who kept the dolman safe, be late 50s at best now. But respect to them, cause if they wouldnt have been, there, against the likes of whu, sheff united and portsmouth. Lets be honest, there would have been carnage. They stopped firms running amok in the dolman. Anybody my age knows this.

  33. My 4 year old grand daughter has just started school and is suddenly expressing an interest in football. Her dad has no interest in the game but her mum used to be a season ticket holder and still comes to occasional games with me. The consensus of family opinion seems to be to start her with a smaller local game though, before taking her to the gate. As is the case with 4 year olds, she has attached a random caveat which is..... "I want to see a team in orange"! As Blackpool and The Netherlands are not readily available, can anyone point me in the direction of a side local(ish) to Portishead at a reasonable level, that might fulfil her specific needs? I am sure I will be able to persuade her that red is only a "dark orange" in time.

  36. Looking at the state the gas are in now, I am very thankful to my dad (born and raised in the northville area) when a kid in the 60’s and 70s decided not to trek down muller rd to eastville and instead when he went with my grandad to visit his aunt in Southville (carrying on the ville theme ?) he would go down to the gate on his own instead. I owe my dad a lot for his sensible decision making. living in Yate I know a few gas heads who were not so fortunate (although they all seem to have a second club, can’t imagine why). here’s to all the people that made the sensible decision of going to the Gate instead of Eastville, twerton and the cabbage patch ?

  37. How do the CSF and other firms, who inflict violence and injury to one another, feel about using the NHS, hospitals, doctors, ambulances, police etc to mop up the self inflicted injuries? Do they think it's reasonable to be looked after, and use up the time of the services ahead of the general public who haven't gone looking for violence? Imo...if you go looking for it, don't expect others to mop up your injuries. Sort yourself out.

  38. Go to the Downs in Bristol. There will be so many matches being played, some teams must wear orange. The advantage of going there is you can do something else when she loses interest. Whatever you do, don’t pay to take her to see a league match as her attention span won’t last for 90 minutes plus half time. Approx 20 minutes if you’re lucky

  40. We’d be about mid table I’d imagine, I’m not a huge Lansdown fan but that is one thing you cannot knock him for in recent years, even if it is only increasing his investment it benefits the whole club ultimately in a positive way..It’s interesting that Shearer said in an interview that St James’s Park has become really shabby over recent years, for all the money sloshing about the Premier league it’s surprising how little clubs in that league actually do invest in their infrastructure’s. I know a Man United season ticket holder who sits in the Stretford end and he is constantly complaining at how Old Trafford is slowly deteriorating, apparently their was a huge leak in the roof not so long back with rain water pouring on fans in the bottom tier of the stretford, embarrassing really.

  41. That's not really an answer though is it, saying 'your lot are just as bad'. I know the bloke who punched the Braintree player and I also know a couple of those who attacked people- and a couple of women DID get punched in that nasty episode- in the East End that day. It kinda destroys the myth that 'firms' only get it on with other 'firms' and are there to protect their own supporters. In the late 70s early 80s , me and all my mates fancied ourselves as hooligans, we were pretty shit at it and by the time we hit our 20s most of us grew out of it and I do understand there is a bond & camaraderie between those who were more heavily involved, it's only natural to look back and think 'those were the days'. I'm pretty friendly with a couple who would still consider themselves CSF and old Totenders and for the most part, they are good decent people, but it doesn't excuse beating the **** out of innocent people at a football match . Apparently the CSF 'condemn violence and vandalism' yet I know I have seen more than one video of fans chanting 'CSF' while smashing the **** out of a pub without a thought for the staff or owner.

  43. I'm no fan of Barton - but he is clearly unwell. He is obviously affected by either medication (prescribed) or self administered. He is a sociopath - who now admits to a 'divine purpose' to 'save' Rovers Look at the video - unable to keep eye contact, looking left, up ,around, as if he is actually seeing and responding to something. In places he was unable to remember what he was saying or complete the sentence. He is severely mentally unwell - I would hope Rovers club Dr has seen this and is making arrangements for him to be assessed by a mental health professional. The man genuinely needs help.

  45. I’ve just come back to this after a few hours and….In what ****ing world is it acceptable to stand up for this shit? I go back to my earlier point - if we admit CSF protected people like me who wanted to just watch the game, then we have to admit that CSF also intimidated and drove away fans like me from the game from other clubs. Look at the average attendances if you don’t believe that. We’re better off without these pricks, who just want a fight under a banner they’ve misappropriated. My sons 9. If he never hears the initials CSF I’ll be delighted. Let the dinosaurs die. I’m happy they protected people, but if they didn’t exist, it wouldn’t be needed. They we’re the cause not the cure. And they should be ashamed of how, as a football fan, they led to me, led to us, being treated.
