  1. If there was a job ever more suited to an individual I'd like to see it! The Academy continues to be in great hands with a team of people that really care about doing things right.

  3. Although I have nothing against Probert, who seems a decent sort, Ashton just can’t help himself can he? Bobby Reid and Joe Bryan predated Probert, so the only academy graduate he brought through as head of the academy (or otherwise) who played in the prem is Kelly. So, a stream isn’t hugely arguable (until last years injury crisis) and some appears to be “one”. Dick!

  4. There is something immensely reassuring about Tinman becoming director of the academy having been so important in its development and that of so many young players development over the years.

  5. Imagine being invited to a corporate event: WBA versus Birmingham City. Free food, free drinks, free everything! After dinner speaker, you wouldn’t believe it! Like meeting a hero. We reminisced about the hat trick he scored against Crewe in my first game at Ashton Gate and he said that he still looks out for our result. Id like to have asked a little more. But I was a little star struck! cheers all!

  8. Sadly Social Media is full of cretins. Whilst I personally didn’t witness this relentless mocking, I don’t doubt that it happened in some parts of Facebook and Twitter. But then it’s easy for supporters of clubs based in the Midlands or within 2 hours of Bradford to take the piss. The facts are that it’s 5 hours from Bristol to Bradford not including any rush hour conditions on a weekday. No train available to return that night. Bradford were themselves in the hunt for a Play Off spot so it’s not like we just had to show up and collect our 3 points. I think under the circumstances there’s nothing wrong with 900 no matter what some slack jawed, dribbling ‘living at home with his mum’ Villa/Leeds/Derby fan on FB thinks.

  16. Ive got to say that football fans arguing about whether their away support is ******* shit, shit or just nothing special is a very Bristol City thing to do. You reds!

  17. The point here is that we don`t come over all Billy Big Bollix about taking a few hundred to Lincoln or wherever and try and make out it`s something special, exaggerate the numbers and bang on about how brilliant the home fans thought the away following was. If we have a disappointing away turnout we say so, we don`t carry on like morons about how wonderful it was and how every other club in the land envies our `massive away support` like those melts do. If they just kept quiet about it we wouldn`t take the piss quite so much (OK, perhaps we would!)

  19. It's good to see some lower League clubs, getting rewarded as they should for the work that goes into development of talent- has long been a problem in terms of matching effort to club reward, but sounds like Exeter do good business on this front.

  20. Well I’m glad we didn’t sign him now, we’d be forever in Exeter’s debt ? Very pleased for him, his mum comes into our work. When he visits her and his old Newton Abbot mates come over and want to know about playing for England or scoring hat tricks against Liverpool, she shouts at him “Oliver, don’t get big headed now” Seems like a decent chap.

  21. It seems to me that Morris took the club into administration when he was unable to find a buyer and was no longer prepared to underwrite the club's losses. I say no longer prepared to as from the figures I've seen quoted re his personal wealth it would appear he would have been able to. As far as I can see, the primary reasons he couldn't find a buyer were the club's debt levels and the jeopardy caused by the EFL's pursuit of rule breaches, punishment for which (embargo and points deduction) could seriously jeopardise their championship status. Both these issues were caused by Morris's decision to ignore Ffp rules, but to continue spending to try and secure promotion, all of which occurred well before the pandemic struck. Also if the pandemic was deemed the cause of administration, why did it not take place until we are into the first season when crowds have returned and cash flow would be returning to levels close to pre Covid levels? Finally, I think I'm right in saying that Derby has a substantial tax liability outstanding. If this, or a sizeable chuck of it, predates the pandemic then I'd say it was a clear indicator of financial problems being there for some time and that Covif is a red herring. Lastly, if Covid is the cause of Derby's administration, then where is the list of all the other less wealthy EFL clubs that have similarly failed over the last 18 months?

  25. 900 all the way up to Bradford on a Tuesday night is an excellent effort. People talk about this game as if we were 100% nailed on guaranteed to win it. Yes clubs in the Midlands who only have to drive for a hour would’ve sold it out but then we can’t help our geographic location. Whether its 900 or 363, it’s still better than the 280 odd they took up there on a Saturday when they were in League 1....and they’re the ones who constantly bang on about their ‘massive’ away support ?

  36. OK, it’s only a minor curiosity. However, I’ve just watched the recent ITV documentary on one of my heroes Jimmy Greaves. Showing his league debut for Chelsea in 1957, footage of the players running out revealed one Alan Dicks a couple of places in front of him - they were in the same starting lineup. Its a funny old game.

  37. That is ultimately what’s gonna happen, whether tomorrow or in the future. I wouldn’t mind seeing this tomorrow if Massengo a bit touch and go: Bentley Tanner | Kalas | Atkinson | Dasilva O’Dowda | Williams | James | Pring Weimann | Martin but generally I’m sure I’ll be happy with whatever eleven is picked. There are gonna be a few chomping at the bit. Some interesting battles tomorrow. Atkinson / Kalas v Solanke - very good at getting shots away in tight situations. Our 2 CMs versus Lerma and Billing Weimann to really wind-up Ben Pearson Martin peeling onto Kelly. Bentley should not kick down Cahill’s throat. I sense an entertaining game.

  40. I'm not sure there were any amazing revelations that came out of the fans forum. It was good for the club to arrange it and they want to make it clear that they are hoping to be transparent and open to communication with any issues that supporters have. All speakers were well trained in responding to questions so didn't say anything too controversial or revealing. Main points that I can remember: 1. No plans to move away fans from the atyeo as our fans won't want to pay to sit in the place with the worst facilities. Mark Kelly mentioned that they had Harlequins supporters in the Upper Lansdown for a Bristol match and they actually generated more noise. Also issues with segregating concourse etc if away fans moved. 2. Dan Bentley gave a really interesting answer about social media comments and the affect it can have on players and how social media companies need to do more about it. He personally is thick skinned and doesn't pay attention to views of those he doesn't respect/keyboard warriors. Also mentioned that people won't understand the demands of championship football. When asked about his own future, he has ambitions to play at the top level, hopefully with us. He has two children and has an affinity with the area. Said you'll have to ask the club about plans for him. He came across well during the q and a. Used to play up front as a kid and would love to be a striker and get the glory but obviously stuck with goalkeeping when scouted by Arsenal rather than a career in amateur football up front. 3. Weimann wasn't really asked any direct questions and was a little shier. His favourite away game as a City player was obviously Sheff United. Bentley referenced some decent recent away wins at Cardiff and QPR. Weimann is Alex Scott's taxi driver so hoping that he makes it big and remembers him in the future! 4. Both players spoke about how good the team spirit is this year and how they're all working hard to get it right. Home form not discussed/not a big issue in the changing room. Everyone keen to put it right for the fans. As senior players Weimann and Bentley would address any issues with players not working hard enough but Nigel has got them all doing this as an absolute minimum. Apparently we've out run every team this season demonstrating how fit we are. Matching the work ethic of the opposition and hopefully surpassing them is the absolute minimum expected by Pearson. Weimann felt we didn't get pre season right last year as there was only a 2 week break and it was probably felt they'd already be fit enough. 5. They wanted to put on record how grateful they are for fan support home and the extra commitment from those that go away. 6. Curtis Fleming came across well with a good sense of humour. He only spoke to Nigel once a year or so prior to his appointment as assistant manager. Impressed with the facilities at Ashton Gate/high performance centre. 7. Regarding January transfers it depends where we are in the league but suggested we'd be continuing to look for cheaper options (eg free transfers). 8. Richard Gould spoke about how parachute payments make the league unfair but that the premier League are never going to vote against it. If there's anything else that comes back to me of great importance I'll share! Also folks from Three Peaps in a podcast were definitely there so imagine they'll mention bits in future podcasts.

  46. Arguably they are having balls by not sacking him with all the backlash they are getting. You just don't see it that way because it's not the outcome you want. As for bankrolling the club, others probably know more than myself, but speaking to a few other fans in the clubhouse (ones who would have an idea) after the game one of them said Lee had negotiated a larger budget for the season, which suggests it isn't his money, or at least not fully, so the allegation is just that.

  47. And yet you happily associate taking the knee with events from America, and use that as part of your basis for the dislike of it. You also ignore that the people doing it have said WHY they are (the equivalent of the words on the banner), and instead focus on your perception of it. I think you're the one tied in knots here.

  48. I read this earlier, excellent article. I remember he was one of the few players that could illicit a round of applause from the opposition fans, the crowd at Ashton Gate seemed in awe of him. I was in the enclosure and he jumped what seemed like 2 feet in the air on the touchline to flick a ball one side of Sweeney and then spin around the other side of him to pick it up again. I said on here recently that there are times when I have to check whether Foden's feet actually touch the ground, and he is one of the few players that can glide across the pitch like Cunningham did, and Cunningham could do it on the 70's mud baths.
