  1. Okay, let’s be honest, we got stuffed today and had we lost 5 nil, it would have been appropriate. That said they are pretty much a Premiership side and started this season with a £20 odd million parachute payment. It’s disappointing as for whatever reason, there was no press, commitment or apparent effort from some but there we go, it happens. I would however comment that we are most certainly going the right way - just 4 losses in 12 games this season, a minus 1 goal difference, just 4 points off the play offs? Is NP not what we have been asking for for a long time, so can we not just get behind his honest approach and give him the three seasons he suggested he needs to turn us around? I never bet against City but, if I did, today would have been the day, just about everything was up against us, and B’Muff did really well, fair play to them. Their quality in depth is incredible to be fair and I have no doubt they will go up this season. I am glad we have Tuesday to come when we go again. Okay today was always going to be hard but, let’s be honest we will have some much easier games to come, the home win will come. Finally, how wonderful to see all fans join together for the minutes applause in the 7th minute - let’s hope the young lad Brooks responds well to treatment and is given the all clear in the near future, well done to all who quite rightly joined in, so nice to see and hear!

  2. The money issue is a poor excuse. You may not finish above them over a season but you can still give them a game. We barely put in a tackle stood off them and gave them the easiest game they will get all season. Shocking display.

  3. Korey had a number of significant injuries when he was with us, and I think we can agree he was a player who left having made a significant, positive contribution to Bristol City becoming an established Championship side - as well as a goal or two! Hopefully people aren't too quick to write off Williams, his reaction to this latest set-back shows how much he wants to succeed on the pitch and I don't think it's too much to ask to expect supporters to rally behind him, rather than throwing comments around like 'sick note'.

  4. I think Bakinson needs to decide if he’s up for it or not. Can really see his career drifting. Couple of occasions yesterday when others are running their nuts off (as we had 10 men) and he’s strolling, letting men run off him. Unacceptable. Needs a little word from Nige. Suspect he might struggle to make the 18 on Tuesday if Atkinson and Massengo fit, even w/o Williams and King. Vyner can come in, Bell maybe too.

  5. Im colourblind too but didnt struggle yesterday. It was clear who was in green as they had the ball for 90 mins!! ?

  6. Given that we have a relatively small squad, with some players injured or out of favour, what team could Pearson have selected that would have enabled us to compete with Bournemouth yesterday? We have a squad of 26, take off the keeper, the injured in Semenyo, Cundy, Atkinson, Massengo. Then there's the 2 fullbacks that are keeping Dasilva and Simpson out. Then players that are really too young and inexperienced to face that sort of opposition, the likes of Janneh, Bell, Scott. Add in those currently out of favour, like Wells, Bakinson, Vyner and Palmer, because they've really not provided enough to be selected consistently and what are we left with? The answer, the team selected yesterday, with the out of favour players making the subs bench along with the keeper. The only difference for me yesterday, would have been to have Dasilva wide left instead of O'Dowda but, that's based on hindsight. I think Pearson's hands are tied to a certain extent at the moment and, he had little choice except to go with his tried and tested players and formation. It just happened that Bournemouth were mobile and slick, as well as tenacious in winning the ball back when we did eventually get it. Especially compared to our ageing midfield, that also experienced bad luck, with the out of position Williams being forced off. Our full backs have been playing 3rd/4th tier football and are still coming to terms with the pace and movement, they got hammered yesterday with little protection from those in front and those inside of them. I'm sure some would argue that Palmer, Scott and Wells should start, though I think we'd have been even more poorly organised and focused had that happened. Bournemouth were just too quick of mind and foot for our lads yesterday and our manager is trying to hold the club together with what he has available, cut him some slack and get behind the team. We must be patient and support the club during this tough time, I know it's frustrating but, get on the managers and players backs and, you will knock the major thing going for us, which has been sadly missing for five years. That's team spirit and, the desire to succeed while helping each other, let's nurture it and help the younger players get better, knocking them won't help in the slightest.

  7. I think the main frustration with COD comes from what he clearly can do. Purely from his build/attributes he should be someone really exciting who excels at this level. We see bits in the training videos of him beating players, scoring/assisting, he looks strong, quick, direct…. This maybe answers why he is constantly selected. But when he actually plays, he is a timid, weak, “safe” player. As much as he has been picked by all managers, he has never really nailed down a position, and he usually has 2-3 good games maximum per season (that’s a fact, and his stats back that up) He doesn’t create lots of goals, he doesn’t score lots of goals, he’s not a great outlet at carrying the ball forward, he doesn’t track back and help the team (remember Norwich away when LJ publicly stated this after his wonder goal in that game) I think he’s had more than enough chances, he’s had more than enough time to develop and become consistent, but he hasn’t, and sadly it doesn’t look like he ever will here. Because he doesn’t have assist/goal threat, you sadly can’t accommodate him in a team, Eliasson for example is far easier to justify based on him delivering as many assists in 1 season, as COD has in 6 years.

  8. Just taking in your points, are you saying that if we were doing things differently we would be doing better? U can’t help but feel this is the best tune we are going to get out of the club at present and it is punctuated by the odd unforeseen high and low (that’s football as we know). The ‘blocks of 10’ has become a fashionable benchmark so let’s see where we are after 20? My hope for the season would’ve been 12-15 with a worry of a relegation battle. If we are 12-15 after 20 games then we have to be relatively happy surly? It almost means we will lose a chunk, play poorly at times but also play well and pick up some points. This is the reality of the situation. I didn’t think we were playoff material after winning at Cardiff and neither am I bricking after losing to promotion elect Bournemouth.

  9. Well put RedM. He’s a very likeable lad off the pitch (bit like Taylor Moore), and has forged a career than many of us can only dream of. But he can’t turn it on where it matters. We are lauding tracking his man against Peterborough as “goal saving”. We are lauding a break from his box with the ball at his feet into space, then fouled. That should be a regular occurrence during the match. He gets debate on here because some posters are at the extremes, either over-praising or over-criticising “average”. I guess I will wait to see how many minutes Nige continues to give him, but I was hugely disappointed with his effort today, especially in his partnership with Pring.

  10. Red v green. 3rd time this season. Absolutely bloody genius. Well done to everyone involved in choosing the kit colours for today's match. Just the 1 in 12 blokes that might have been affected by this. Possibly 2 of our squad. **** the shorts, this is ******* awful. **** the swear filter as well. Bournemouth could have worn their white away kit, but nope obviously this was a top opportunity to break out the green 3rd kit. Against a red home kit. ******* cretins. @Blagdon red @JerrySLO whoever decides this crap doesn't actually give a shit do they.

  11. We don’t really know. We can guess, but things will become a bit clearer when 20/21s accounts are published. SL has already said last season’s losses are going to be horrible….£30m+ ??? How much of those losses can be excluded for Covid we don’t know either. There is enough float in the FFP allowance if you want to just take a single 3-year period….the problem is when 18/19’s profit falls off, and then we bust FFP based on my projections….bust it by some distance. Hence why Nige is cutting the wage bill and amortisation costs, and not spending much on fees. Spending now just means selling next season….and 2 players isn’t gonna turn us into a promotion side. We could really do with a £15-20m player sell….but we haven’t got one. Newcastle are a different beast. Ashley might be a nob, but he ran the business side very frugally…enough player investment to keep them in the PL each season.

  13. It’s all ifs and buts though. He’s had 3 different managers to find a system that suits him and none of them have been able to do it. The common denominator is COD. I don’t really know what his strengths are, aside from occasional flashes there’s not been a whole lot to shout about from his performances throughout his time here.

  14. If there was a widely accepted risk of relegation and he currently had them in 11th I'd strongly disagree, crap home form or not. At the start of the year most were talking about survival, building, and finishing 20th if we have to. Now we're pretty happily mid table and people are calling for him to get the sack. Absolutely madness.

  15. The problem is not one loss to top team, nor Is it Nige; the problem is two decades long and lies at the very top. SL has spent millions and failed to achieve his aim through appointment of poor managers, letting others go, allowing his son to be Chairman of a largely non existent Board, allowing the club to consistently buy the mediocre, failing to bring new money in, obsessed by BS. OK, at last he has brought in the manager we needed, and has begun talking about new backers, both real positives. As supporters we need to get behind both these moves, ie support Nige through next 3 transfer windows and keep pressing re new monies. Always believe whatever the evidence is to the contrary

  16. 144 league appearances 7 goals 10 assists How anyone could think the above is good is crazy, Even more the fact he was basically refusing to sign a contract, thinking someone better would come and didn’t proved a point. No one wanted him on a free, yet we are still going for him? I personally think he’s dreadful at this level and those stats prove it. He’s an international player all by luck, being English but having Irish grandparents. He would never in a million years get in the England team, so he’s lucky he’s been given the chance for a country he’s not actually from.

  17. My concerns are: poor team selection (why is Dasilva consistently left on the bench?); baffling substitutions; inability to change a game for the better. All significant failings by Pearson, which would have resulted in howls of criticism during the last two regimes. Last season we outplayed Bournemouth for 45 minutes at their place and forced them to change shape and tactics. I find it very hard to regard what I saw today as progress in any shape or form.

  18. The fact our goal difference didn’t take a hammering today is a real positive. Also, to draw the second half, much of which we played with 10 men and without our 2 best midfielders was remarkable

  19. Never heard of parachute payments? They cheated FFP to get to the Prem based on their dodgy Russian money, trust me, it makes a lot of difference.

  20. He’s a waste of time. Has had more than enough opportunities to show quality and he more often than not fails to deliver. Wish he’d gone to Leeds.

  21. Absolutely awful. He offered Pring no protection and looked lost. As they attacked down our left for their goal, O’Dowda was wide right. I would not be disappointed to never see him play again.

  22. I think you’ve missed a key word out there…. picked by every failed manager…oh, and don’t forget our failure of a CEO, who bizarrely awarded him a lucrative, extended contract…. even when those with the most basic of football knowledge knew it was rank stupidity. This era of building a team of ‘good humans’ at City must be ending soon, and it can’t come fast enough.

  26. Imagine being invited to a corporate event: WBA versus Birmingham City. Free food, free drinks, free everything! After dinner speaker, you wouldn’t believe it! Like meeting a hero. We reminisced about the hat trick he scored against Crewe in my first game at Ashton Gate and he said that he still looks out for our result. Id like to have asked a little more. But I was a little star struck! cheers all!

  27. Give me bridge delays any day. For some of us the 112 mile journey home topped out at 190 miles, two sections of the M4 eastbound closed, pretty much the whole of the M25 South, anticlockwise closed (all for roadworks so forget A303 or route via Bracknell) forcing all traffic from the West to use the clockwise M25 North and M11 to get to South East London. Guess what, that resulted in accidents. Highways England my ****.....

  28. F@ck me there are some replies on here. Get rid ? When/how ? He's under contract and not fit, which means no one will buy him and he stays. So we get him fit? Great, but when fit he is clearly one of the better players at the Club. The aim has to be try and get him fit, if that turns out not to be possible he will end up being released. We will only get money for him when fit, and that would mean playing in the first team . Previously he played 34 games for Bolton, 34 for Barnsley and 38 for Wigan. He's no sick note. When he came back under Holden he was pressed into play twice in a few days after a year off, that set him back miles. Yesterday may not be as bad as we fear, a tear and he wouldn't have ran up and down. I'm hoping it was a tight hamstring and nothing more serious. My worry now is without Williams, with Masengo a doubt and King not looking good. Our MF looks very weak

  29. I'm sure it annoys some people when wealthy blokes like you come on here boasting about how much you have, especially as its more than some will earn over their entire lifetime. I however, do not begrudge you a single penny. I have no doubt you've had to work hard to accumulate such immense wealth and paid all the taxes required. How did you manage to fend off all those sycophantic advances from Mark Ashton?

  30. Not really sure what to make of COD yesterday, as alluded to you could argue he was our only bright spot offensively but his off the ball work was horrendous. Ultimately, whilst it eventually backfired with King, I would have said the sub and change of shape actually worked. Dasilva and Tanner playing more advanced then became pretty much our only attacking outlet and any half chances came from them. Think COD suffers on here with same issue Pack had on here where people are so strong in their views. Those that rate him really rate him and vice versa, for me he lands somewhere in the middle. A bang average midfielder and if we want to progress cannot be first choice but could do a role as a 'squad player'. Part of me would like to see him play in the middle like he does for Ireland and if King/Williams aee out and HNM not fit we could see that...

  33. Was one of our better players in the first half, getting the ball and moving us up the field. The victim of a formation change at half time. There were a fair few worse than him today.

  34. Not sure that would have helped (shouting instructions from the touch line, rather an our inability to string some passes together!). Anyone can shout instructions from the touch line. Coming up with the instructions might be easier if you have a better view of the game.

  35. Can I go slightly against the grain. I think defensively he was poor, but offensively he was our only outlet first half. Made a few good runs, and put on a more than acceptable chance for Wells that he blazed wide. What summed up COD for me was when he made a driving run, got fouled and earns a free kick in a good position but didn’t beat the front man when taking. I know he’s not popular, but he at least looked like getting us on the front foot.

  36. Was clear he pulled it straight away from the stop, and then beating of the ground. poor bloke looked absolutely distraught as well- and although only 10 mins in we missed his (any) form of midfield presence. the choice to replace him with Wells was astonishing

  38. Think Vyner could come in ahead of Bakinson on Tuesday if push came to shove. Was 19th man on Saturday. I think Atkinson will be back, and I think Nige will go with a 352 as a result. So, assuming: DB GT / TK / NB / RA / JD Then you could go James / Vyner and play Scott or Palmer off if whoever the 2 up top are. Id much rather Vyner alongside James than Bakinson.

  39. Clearly the person doing the ratings in the press only watched the ball. O’Dowda could easily have been accommodated in our change of shape if the management thought he was playing well and doing his job. I’ll stick to what I saw not what a journo reckons. Anyway, 7 goals in 141 appearances or TWO goals per season if you like from an “attacking” player is a reasonable indicator of his overall contribution to Bristol City.

  40. B’muff we’re outstanding all over the pitch and City barely laid a glove of them. They were quicker, slicker and sharper both in and out of possession and their full backs were causing havoc down both flanks. The gulf is class was there for all to see and City will have to get as good on a consistent basis to threaten the pray-offs over the remaining games this season and the next two full seasons. It was remarkable that B’muff didn’t score 4 or 5 today especially when City were 10 after King went off injured. Nige has his work cut out to lift the guys ready for another tough Championship fixture against Forest on Tuesday eve when hopefully City can finally get a win at AG before yet another tough test at the Baggies next Saturday. Onwards and upwards guys!

  41. I don’t think we all want him today start being someone who dives into tackles etc, I think we all just want to see him have positive impacts on the game! for his size, build, and attributes, he should do far far more than he does. He should be more direct, braver on the ball, and supply more chances- it’s frustrating as we know he can (1-2 times a season) do this, but for where we are, and where we want to be he needs to be doing it far more often.
    3 points
  42. You might be right in that he doesn't seem to have that desire, that HNM clearly does. I still think he seems to lack that 'strength' to hold player off easily. Of course it may be inner strength he lacks.

  45. We'll comfortably stay up. Bournemouth are way above us though. They should win the league. Nige is well-known for liking pace in his teams. He has pretty much none to work with in this current team. I'm excited to see what a Pearson team looks like in 12-18 months. Very different to the current one I bet.

  46. This is the message that keeps repeating tonight. (Almost) everyone realises that Nige has got a very limited squad to work with and that results will very much be a mixed bag. What NOBODY will accept whether they have extreme or balanced opinions on the club, whether they think Nige should be sacked after every bad performance or whether they think he should be given three years to build something better, is watching us surrender on a Saturday afternoon. Bournemouth are better than us, everyone knows that, but don't go and hand them the game on a china plate with a silver service.

  47. Funny how O’Dowda always gets roasted, however he plays. He was arguably our best player in the first half and I certainly didn’t see the first goal stemming from a poor pass. It was James losing the ball that was the problem, but then the likes of James, Martin and Weimann rarely get criticised. Martin was absolutely abysmal today, but we don’t have thread on that.
    3 points
  48. Interview was spot on, comfortably beaten by a better side. Not much point bringing on Scott to just chase the ball around. We barely touched it all match and that doesn't suit Scott at all.
    2 points
  49. As I have noted in another thread . Why Wells on for Williams rather than Scott or Palmer. It makes no sense at all. I am done with any sense in playing Wells wide ever. No point at all play him central or don't play him and sell. Scott or Palmer every time in that role. I like NP he will do well I hope. But this Wells issue is now beyond a joke or any sense at all.
    2 points
  50. Yes, Bournemouth were much better, but still they only managed 2 goals from all that possession and conceded 3 or 4 very presentable chances. What I find depressing is the thought that we are years away from getting to even their level (and if we keep losing our best players we never will).
