Three transfer windows. That’s the default for assessing a new managers squad. Today, for the first time I’m not worried about incomings. The next three windows could be the most important we’ve had in a recent memory but for different reasons. With alleged multiple bids coming in for Semenyo today I found myself getting worked up. For the first time in a long time I’ve started to enjoy this football club again. It feels like we are starting to repair the damage following the devastation left behind from hurricane Ashton. The football has improved, Ashton gate has its buzz back and I’m proud to see so many academy players in the squad. For years we have heard how the club is premier league ready, well, now there’s a manager I actually believe in and maybe we might be in a position to challenge sooner rather than later. There is a rather large elephant in the room though….FFP. Losses of 38.4 million does not make for pretty reading. We have saleable assets. I’d be happy to lose Palmer and Wells and I don’t really care where they go. As far as replacements go we had the answers at the club all along. Inevitably we now face a battle to keep hold of those answers. Surely every club in the championship (excluding those with parachute payments) are in the same boat so this is our chance settle the squad and get ready for next years playoff charge. The EFL won’t punish every team with points deductions, they simply can’t - Allowances must be made for the league to survive. City have operated admirably and led the way with regard to finances, it’s the pandemic that brought the debt and that is something that could not be foreseen. Whilst all those around us start to recover, we MUST take our chance. I’m not suggesting spending money we don’t have but let’s keep what we’ve got. Put simply Semenyo, Scott and Massengo need to be at City this time next year. They will outgrow us and they will retain value but we can’t keep selling talent after one season - particularly when it all comes along at once and that’s what has given us a chance when it seemed like we were so far away. Next season could be the most exciting yet……

That's an interesting way to deal with it. I kind of think fair play to them. Why should the owners or club have to pay to cover the damage caused by a minority of dick heads (every clubs got them). Might also deter others in future if they think the club will increase costs on the fans to cover damage. Perhaps it will also encourage those who are impacted but weren't involved to call them out.

That’s good news. Would be a real boost if we get similar news for Semenyo and Massengo. They may well both leave eventually, but we have to maximise their value. I hope we can keep both long term - despite our patchy form I’m really enjoying our team at the moment.

I have been thinking of posting something like this for a while, but this comment from the Preston forum stood out and made me finally do it- "Bristol City were technically very goal and worked very hard. Surprised on their league position. Expected Pearson would have been fired by now given expectations at the club but looks like he's building something and maybe the club see this." I think the club definitely do see this and most fans too - for a few everything needs to be instant though. We are a club in transition and NP is doing a great job. He is mostly working with what he has, with the odd low budget addition. He has also had to let players go -(some he may of wanted to keep, but we couldn't afford) and make the tough decisions on players who maybe do not fit the clubs ethos and plans. That brings us to the next part, plans and identity! Something LJ went on about, but we now clearly have. It shows on the pitch and it shows in how the fans at the games have reacted - Getting behind the team because we can finally see a plan, a willingness to play football (rather than jsut grind games out) and they trust where we are going. Our performances are getting better all the time + players are improving all the time. We have such a young side and they have come on so much since last season - imagine what they might be like next season if they make even half as much progress. The pathway is there, they are clearly being well coached and getting match exposure. We could easily field a team with over half coming from the club: Max, Pring, Vyner, Scott, Conway, Benarous add in club developed players/kind of home grown - Semenyo, HNM, Cundy. I think for me it reminds me of when Sean O'Driscoll was here - he had to transition the club and despite things not going well on the pitch I think there are a fair few who appreciate he did a lot of the work to transition us and set things up behind the scenes and with restructuring - for Cotts to get us flying. That's what NP is doing now - only he is doing it and managing to improve us game on game and develop our own players. Anyone still not able to see that needs to take a step back and see the bigger picture. However I think most do and as we keep progressing more and more will.

Louie Donowa goal versus Rovers was up there for me. Pure tension and relief. We played well that night and deserved the win, but it all looked in doubt when the gash were awarded a late penalty. Leicester FA Cup away deserves a mention also.

For me, without a doubt 1977 last game of the season, Coventry 2-2. You had to be there, amazing scenes at full time. And both sets of fans ecstatic. It felt better than getting promotion the previous season. And the number of us away supporters was unbelievable.

Haha! Harsh but they are going to get it everywhere now I’d imagine! I think DCFC fans are delusional in thinking that every football fan wants them to stay up and get away with not paying their debts. Every comments board I see on social media / newspapers online is full of their fans laying the complete blame on the EFL and most are saying they deserve to stay up and pay however little as they possibly can. They don’t like it when it’s pointed out to them that whilst the vast majority of Championship / EFL fans don’t want to see them go bust, they do want to see them pay their debts in full even if that means them dropping a couple of divisions and working to embargoes / payment plans.

It became personal to me when he destroyed my love of watching us play, when he claimed his love for my club, after saying the same about Oldham and Barnsley, when he thought he was the high and mighty, and none of us watching were worthy of understanding the game. The strange thing is that I quite liked him as a player, always playing it simple, keeping the ball, giving it to players who were far more talented than him. But as a coach/manager he thinks he is some kind of inimitable expert, that must be looked up too. His after match interviews are farcical and pathetic, talking down to people who just watched 90 minutes of sheer shite, by trying to tell them they didn’t understand what they were watching. No other Championship club would have gone anywhere near him ( someone give me one reason why they would of? ) when SL hired him. He had done nothing to warrant coming here, except being a mate of the owners son. Yes, it’s personal, i and many others have been involved with football for 50 years plus, one thing I don’t need is someone who isn’t very good at his job, trying to tell me what I’m watching.

We get to see "Pearson's Prodigy's" for at least the rest of the season, fitness allowing, and on paper at least we have strengthened our defence. Happy with that.

Beating Rovers in the Johnstone Paint trophy as it was my daughters first game and it got her hooked on City and we have been coming up from Taunton for most home games and a few away ever since.So thank you City for the time we can spend together.

Palmer is the interesting one, DaSilva has shown you can still put your thumb out and hitch a lift on the bus, so maybe Palmer will now realise that he is not as in demand as he thought and if he wants a football career of any note then he needs to find the right change for the bus driver to let him back on.

The only teams that wanted them are below us on the league (not including qpr as I don't think they were really interested) Np did the right thing as did the Clun, why strengthen a rival at our detriment, While relegation is unlikely its still a threat and strengthen Cardiff and Birmingham is stupid, the cost of wages for another 5 months is worth not losing the revenue relegation would bring No I don't think we will be relegated just putting it in the club's prospective

Gotta be Palace for me. Was old enough to enjoy it but young enough not to be entirely cynical how we were going to do in the PO final. The subsequent games were incredible but the cynicism had set in by then ?

Right… so it’s fair to say that after the social media allegations GMP had reasonable grounds to suspect he’d committed the offences of rape and assault. He was therefore arrested. I would assume that the further arrested means that post his arrest GMP discovered evidence of further offences they now had cause to suspect him of committing. My assumption would be that these would have come through obtaining a statement from the complainant which they probably didn’t have prior to his arrest. It doesn’t mean a great deal to be honest, other than that there are other offences that they’re now looking at. It doesn’t give them any more time, but as someone suggested, the range of offences has now increased. Being a betting man, I’d suggest a charge is round the corner and he’ll be held by police until court the day after he’s charged. My bet would then be that some highly paid barrister will manage to get him bail further on down the line. Edit: I’d definitely have a cheeky ton on him being charged tomorrow. Looks like GMP are really going to town on him - you rarely see Mags Court extensions for anything other than murder. I think he’d have been released by now if they weren’t going to charge him - but I suppose I am wrong on occasions!

It’s an u23 game, ultimately the result isn’t important. Think the wind and subs made an impact. We took off two players who were probably our best players on the day. Morton we know has just come back from injury. Idehen, probably the same, because it’s the first time we’ve seen him since he arrived, and we’ve been playing 16/17 year olds in recent games at CB. We replaced them with a 16 year old, and a 18 year old who made his first u23 start last week. Plus our 3-0 lead wasn’t a fair reflection of the game imho. Shit happens, it’s a good learning curve for them.

Surely they should just get those arrested to pay the damages? I’d certainly not be happy as a supporter if the situation was reversed. You’ve arrested the people who did it. Get them to pay the bloody money.

Lots of great memories there but I can't think I've ever enjoyed a City win more than that night at Bradford. It would have been so 'Bristol City' to lose 1-0 and disappoint everyone but to win 6-0 on a glorious evening, for the result never to be in doubt, and for a great side and a great manager to actually win something as a consequence, was wonderful.

So I updated my comparisons. These compare four blocks of games in the league. Block one (blue) is Holden's final 10 games in charge. Block two (red) is Pearson's 14 games at the end of 2020/21. Block 3 (yellow) is the first 14 games of this season, ending with West Brom and then Simpson and Downing's departures. Block 4 (green) is the most recent 15 games. At this point these four blocks almost cover a year's worth of games. Holden was sacked on 17 February 2021, and Pearson came in (initially on a short term deal) 5 days later on 22 February 2021. TLDR: at the moment the stats agree with what people are seeing: there is improvement, but we're not world-beaters yet. So have we improved? In essence, undoubtedly. Looking at our attacking play the difference between Block 1 and Block 4 is huge. We've nearly doubled our attacking threat. Shots on Target are up 84%, xG is up 93%, and goals scored are up 70%. So there's actually a reasonable argument that we perhaps could have expected to see a few more goals over the past 15 games. Probably only one or two more, but that could have brought more points. Our attacking play seems to suggest that we've been a little short changed there. Perhaps our lack of goals from set pieces, and some 'unlucky' refereeing calls in the penalty box might explain that. Had we scored just 2 or 3 more goals then we'd see goals scored following the other attacking numbers. In defence we see less drastic improvement, but improvement nonetheless. Shots allowed is down 8%, with shots on target allowed following that at 9% down. xG against hasn't moved much though - and that tells us that although we're allowing fewer shots, each of those shots tends to have a slightly higher chance of being scored. And that explains why goals conceded is actually slightly up, 2.1 per game against a flat 2 per game in Holden's dying days. Note that each data set includes one 6 goals game as well, so those two anomalous results broadly cancel each other out. So as I've said before. Huge improvements in attack tempered by only slight improvement in defence. We also see that the attacking play has improved steadily over the past year. Block 4 v Block 3 (so NP this season without and with KD and PS) shows us a 20% uplift in shots on target, a 43% up tick in the number of goals scored, and a slight dip in xG per game. Defensively though this is where we see the bulk of the improvement. This might surprise us given we've conceded 31 goals in the 15 games since KD and PS departed, but the numbers suggest that this isn't down to getting 'worse' at the back. In fact we've seen all the key indicators improve. Shots allowed is down 12%, shots on target allowed down 13.5%, and xG against is down 16%. You can see in the second graph above that goals against had actually been steadily improving, before a big jump in the last block of 15 games. So why have goals against increased by 44%? Is it the goalkeeper issue that's been discussed? Is it that we've just been unlucky? I don't know, but he numbers suggest that if we carry on as we are, those goals against will come down to a more reasonable figure, hopefully allowing us to pick up a few more points. Finally, a look at the all important points on the board. After initially dipping during the close of last season, we can now see a steady increase up to our current 1.2 points per game. The graph below shows a rolling 10 game total of our points won from 10 games. It starts when Pearson had been in the job for 10 games. That lowest point is the end of last season, when we were trotting along at a wonderful 3 points from 10 games. One way to read the below is to think of the 10 point line on the vertical axis as being equal to 1 point per game, or 46 points over the season. Stay above that line and you're not getting relegated. Hence I've never really worried about that this season.

I think this is an impossible question to answer. It's all about context. For me the 0-0 draw with Fulham after we had been saved is the most important game/result in our history, simply because a lot of us didn't think we'd survive to play the match.

Completely agree. Apart from their obvious talent, the attitude the likes of Benarous, Scott, Pring and Semenyo show on the pitch has given us something to be proud of in the team and something to enjoy after a couple of years where things felt lost.

Same, Palmer and wells should have gone. Not down NP but this but it would have ment better options in the summer.

I was just thinking the other day how you never see anyone climb up onto the roof of the stand like you used to at almost every game. It was definitely inflamable material, full of flags and emblems, barbed wire love, you'd just go or it, fly the flag. The memories fade away, but back then it was roots, radicals, rockers and reggae, a brilliant wasted life, at the edge. Nowadays its like an alternative Ulster, just bits of kids with their suspect devices. Listen, it doesn't make it alright, but here we are nowhere, Gotta getaway. We're nobody's heroes. All the best.
