  2. I don’t know why you think he’s underperforming, but that boils down to your own expectations for this season. For me, anything above the bottom three would be a good season because I understand the imbalance of the squad, it’s inexperience, the shoestring budget he’s working with, plus the fact he’s tasked with overseeing the club’s entire football operation because SL won’t appoint any form of sporting director/director of football or head scout to help him shoulder this load. For those reasons, I think he’s exceeding my expectations and he deserves time to try and stop the rot IMO. In times of adversity like these, the club needs our support and patience more than ever. We’ve seen similar rebuilds take place in L1, it’s a pleasant change to see us doing that now in the league above.

  7. Well done Max. Would like to see him regain his place and continue to improve and learn ahead of being our number one next season, if he does so. We know what Bentley can do and if Max is as good after another run of games then we can sell Bentley and invest in other areas.

  13. Plus keeping us up with a significantly reduced budget….and importantly reduced commitments to wages and amortisation in future years, i.e. sustainable, not a one season reduction. As it stands the budget for this season is £12-13m less, same next season if not more, and approaching £20m lower in 23/24. That’s notwithstanding any transfers in or out.

  15. I'd say a team that made the last World Cup semi-finals, made the final of the last Euros, and is ranked 5th in the world, could quite accurately be described as one of the top teams...

  16. Quatar is a pheckin disgrace of a country.............the fact that it was awarded the World Cup, displays just how corrupt an organisation FIFA truly is . I just hope that footballers representing their various countries take the opportunity to highlight to the World, the repressive medieval politics that reside there. They must make use of their privileged platform to shine a light on Quater's appalling human rights issues, and draconian LGBT laws. Hopefully some players will draw attention to these disgraceful elements when interviewed, and use the World media to highlight just how inappropriate it is to allow Quatar to sportwash football's greatest competition? I am hoping all England's players wear black armbands, as a tribute to the thousands of exploited foreign workers who have died while constructing the stadia in which this joke of a tournament will be played out in ? But I am not holding my breath.

  22. No problems watching Bristol Manor Farm at The Creek when the World Cup is on. You could even get a train from Parsons Street to Temple Meads and then another to Sea Mills Station. From there it’s a 5 minute walk. Beer is cheap, it won’t be 40 degrees in the shade, so what not to like?

  23. Imo, it should not only be lauded but, when you understand our historical travails at this level and then factor in our current financial position plus the mess of a squad he inherited, be acknowledged as a near miraculous achievement. Scandously, imo, that acknowledgement seems unlikely - judging by the opinion of the suits above him (who seem to think he's "under performing") and the know-nothing gobshites of social media and local radio. More fool them. Personally, I'm happy to carry Nige shoulder high to the nearest hostelry at season's end to celebrate, although I appreciate this honour is usually reserved for fake sheikhs, fake messiahs, fake football clubs. Nige is no messiah, and he may even be a very naughty boy, but fake he is not.

  25. Mcinnes and Millen both got sacked because we were in imminent danger of relegation. We're not now despite your efforts to convince people otherwise. You're the one with the NP revisionism, unless of course you were expecting a promotion challenge??

  28. Tbf, if I had Irish roots and arms I’d expect a call up. The original three keepers were a Man City 20yo on loan at Pompey, the keeper for Bohemians and Kelleher, the Liverpool reserve. Pleased for Max but in perspective, it’s pretty slim pickings on the emerald isle

  37. Only until the end of the quarter finals. The semi finals happen on December 13/14, the third-place playoff on December 17 and the final on December 18. I guess the thinking is that Championship clubs aren't too likely to have players reaching the semi-final stages.

  42. Why should we? He's robbed a living last few years with no progression and has gone hiding. Another failure of a signing who we should have bombed out when he refused to sign a contract and believed the grass was greener elsewhere. When it turned out no other Championship club wanted him!

  46. In isolation, no it’s not bad, but it was the trend of having to sell more and more each year, whilst paying larger fees and wages (and committing us to those costs in future years) to replace them that concerned me. And it came home to roost. I started seriously looking at the finances in 17-18 when everyone was “moaning” we didn’t go for it / gamble in that Jan 18 window. We signed Diony, Walsh and Kent. My argument was that we did sort of gamble, by keeping Reid, Bryan (allegedly we turned down a bid) and Flint, but adding too with the 3 players mentioned. I wasn’t sure whether a sustainable strategy would lead to promotion. On reflection I think it can, but no surprise it relies on excellent recruitment, but also Academy players coming through. Over a period of time I thought we used the money we made to buy quantity rather than quality, we didn’t really put any money made from Kelly and Webster “behind us”, we just spent it. That worried me to Although I didn’t expect Covid, I always feared a tv deal collapse or something like that, and worried we’d end up with expensive players worth less than we paid for them. Maybe I should’ve just worried less! ? This was coupled with nothing really coming through the academy…the source of Bryan £6m, Kelly £15m and Reid £10m (or whatever their amounts really were). We only really had two big successes of players bought by LJ / MA and that was Brownhill and Webster. So I had little faith in relying on “buy cheap, sell big”. As it stands today, the big positives are that we have Scott and Semenyo coming through, and I really want to keep them. I don’t really count Massengo, but lump the three in together. We’ve possibly got Pring (and Benarous - hopefully in time) to add to that in the group below of slightly less valuable “home grown”. We could do with Conway or Bell joining that group too. That would really set us up. I see clubs like Luton and Coventry doing what we should’ve been the trailblazers for. We blew it. Until we get our costs down (which we are under Pearson) we can’t reset our course for progress. Thats how I see it anyway.

  47. The word "deadline" has lost all meaning in terms of the Derby matter. It now lies in a grave alongside the word "imminent". The English language is the real victim in all of this.
