  1. Unbelievable. Considering he is “almost stealing a living” & just “runs around” to get 20 with 2 games to go & having played wherever the team wants is a brilliant achievement. Player of the season by a mile.

  7. I don’t know why some Gasheads are getting all uppity about FGR celebrating on their pitch? I seem to remember Rovers fans celebrating on Wycombe's pitch when they ‘secured’ Football League survival in 2014. Only difference is that FGR will still be promoted next Saturday whilst Rovers somehow managed to get relegated to Non League 7 days later by a team wearing their own kit. The gift.

  13. It’s not Wells fault people bang on about him being a 20 goal man, and this season he’s been an absolute professional, not moaned about not being in the side and worked hard whenever needed. He’ll be off in the summer but will do so with no hard feelings that it hasn’t worked out. Delighted for Andi, but I’d bet Wells will be too and one is not to the detriment of the other.

  15. Derby County have played at Pride Park Stadium since 1997 as a replacement for their former home, the Baseball Ground. The stadium was built as part of the commercial redevelopment of the area, and was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 18th July 1997. We won’t be visiting Pride Park next season unless that is we get Derby in a cup game! A new addition to the RamsTV output for the 2021/22 campaign has been the monthly ‘We Are Derby’ documentary series which provides supporters with an insight into the inner workings of the club: https://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/2022/04/we-are-derby-the-ramstv-series-so-far-2022 Connections between us and them include Chris Martin, who was their top scorer for two consecutive seasons and Andi Weinmann who also played for them. Chris Martin (225 appearances / 76 goals) and Andi Weimann (88 appearances / 9 goals) will both be hoping to do well against their former club. After a year out of football, Nigel Pearson was appointed manager of Derby County on a three-year contract on 27 May 2016. On 27 September 2016, he was suspended by the club pending an internal investigation, following a row with owner Mel Morris. It was later claimed that the row began with Pearson's objection to Morris's use of drones to observe training sessions. Pearson left the club by mutual consent on 8 October 2016, with Derby 20th in the Championship. After losing there on Good Friday Marco Silva said ‘A fantastic atmosphere they created in their stadium. Fantastic for a team that are in a tough position with everything that has happened with them this season.’ On Easter Monday the Rams needed to match Reading's result or they would be relegated. If both teams drew the two teams would have be separated by nine points with three games left to play, however, Derby have a vastly inferior goal difference. With two minutes of the 90 to go Derby were drawing and Reading were losing. In the event Derby lost 1-0 away at QPR this is how the BBC captured it: 88 minute Goal! Queens Park Rangers 1, Derby County 0. Luke Amos (Queens Park Rangers) right footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom right corner. Assisted by Lyndon Dykes. While Reading who were at home against Swansea fought back from 4-1 down to draw with this equalizer: 90'+5' Goal! Reading 4, Swansea City 4. Tom McIntyre (Reading) right footed shot from the centre of the box to the top right corner. Assisted by Lucas João with a headed pass. Which meant Derby were relegated. If they’d not had 21 points deducted they’d be above us on 52 points, in 17th spot. Derby have been in administration since September. Prospective new owner Chris Kirchner has set up a file at Companies House to complete a takeover of the club. On April 7 the American businessman was named as the preferred bidder for Derby County, by the club’s administrators. Kirchner, 34, said back in October he wanted to take Derby out of administration and was seeking approval from the English Football League (EFL) to become the owner of the club. “Following a rigorous and well-documented marketing process, the joint administrators… have accepted an offer from Chris Kirchner to acquire Derby County Football club out of administration,” the administrators said in a statement “Mr Kirchner had initially expressed an interest in acquiring the club in late 2021, and the joint administrators have welcomed Mr Kirchner’s renewed interest.” Kirchner told the BBC that “there is still a lot of work to do”, but that he is “excited for the future.” His bid does not include the stadium, which is owned by the club’s former majority shareholder Mel Morris. Kirchner is the CEO of software company Slync.io, a global logistics technology provider and has an estimated net worth of £3-4 million – not enough to buy Derby County on its own. The administrator had already turned down bids believed to be in the region of £40 million, but included the acquisition of the Pride Park stadium from Morris. It is understood that £50 million was closer to the expected price. Details of Kirchner’s financing have not been revealed, nor has the price he has offered for the club. A company listed under the name 9CK Sports Holdings has been registered by an American under the name 'Christopher Stephen Kirchner' with his role listed as that of director. The company was incorporated on April 12 and has a share capital of £1, a nominal amount needed to set the company up. Antoine Semenyo is available and Joe Williams, Andy King and George Tanner will all be in contention to be included in the squad, Calum O’Dowda may also feature in the squad. A decision on Jay DaSilva will be left as long as possible but NP certainly won’t take any chances with him. Derby will be without Tom Lawrence who saw red on Monday after getting a second yellow card in the 98 minute. Rooney named his squad early. Barring any last-minute changes, the team will be: Allsop; Byrne, Davies, Stearman, Forsyth; Bird, Thompson; Ebiowei, Morrison, Watson; Cybulski. Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game, Rooney said: "It is a chance to look at players, a couple of the young lads who have been around the first team. There will be a chance for me to look at them, to see how they cope with it for next season. So I will do that but also with the mindset of winning the game. We want to win and finish the season strong. Louie Watson will start and young Barts (Cybulski) will start up front. They both deserve it. Watto has been on the fringe of it, and it is only through the form of Liam Thompson and Max Bird, and players in that position, that he just hasn't quite broken through yet. There has been a plan with Louie Watson to work on for next season, which we have done, and Bart has done well. I just want to see how they deal with it from the start." Colin Bloomfield was an English radio personality best known for his coverage of Derby County F.C. on BBC Radio Derby, as a presenter, reporter and commentator. Following his terminal prognosis for melanoma, he became an activist and fundraiser, setting up an eponymous appeal to educate children about the illness. He died aged 33 on 25 April 2015. On 40 minutes today there will be a minutes applause for him. Thomas Bramall will oversee this afternoon's match. He has overseen 30 games so far this season in all competitions, showing 96 yellow cards and six red cards. Bramall will be assisted by Nick Greenhalgh and Akil Howson on the lines, whilst Geoff Eltringham has been appointed as the fourth official. Derby County were away to Bolton Wanderers for their first ever league game, and came away 6-3 winners. No league table was ever actually published after the first league fixtures, but based on modern day calculations, Derby County would’ve topped the table due to their goal difference and goals scored. In 1975, Derby County met European giants Real Madrid in the Second Round of the European Cup. The Rams ran out 4-1 winners against the Spaniards, with David Nish scoring to add to Charlie George’s hat-trick, with Pirri scoring the visitors’ consolation. However, Derby couldn’t progress through to the next round, losing 5-1 in the return leg at the Bernabeu, meaning the Rams crashed out of the competition due to a 6-5 aggregate loss. When Derby moved into the Baseball Ground in 1895, they were forced to evict gypsies off the site, and one apparently responded by putting a curse on the club: that they would never win the FA Cup. Over the next eight years, Derby reached three FA Cup finals, and lost on all three occasions. The curse finally appeared to be lifted in 1946, when Derby beat Charlton 4-1 in the FA Cup final. Jackie Stamps scored twice in that game, with rumours claiming that the day before the final, he had visited a gypsy to pay to have the curse lifted. Derby are infamous for holding the record of the lowest points tally in a Premier League campaign, claiming just 11 during the 2007/08 season winning only one of their 38 games. The team nickname, The Rams, is a tribute to its links with the First Regiment of Derby Militia, which took a ram as its mascot. Looking forward Derby have only five players contracted for next season, are under a transfer embargo and cannot renew contracts as they remain in administration. The traveling Cider Army have been superb yet again this season, well done to all who have made the trip today, be safe and here’s to you cheering the team to a victory, COYR!

  21. One team already relegated, another with nothing to play for - of course this was the recipe for City's best performance of the season as Nigel Pearson's demand for the visitors to finish the season brightly found very little resistance from a much changed Derby side and Antoine Semenyo had his way with the strugglers in a one sided win. (Un)Remarkably this was the first time this season City won by more than one goal and it was fully deserved after a one sided first half as Weimann & Semenyo got in behind the defence repeatedly - to score twice in front of 1000 travelling fans. In the second, Derby picked on Sam Bell, got a goal, but Tim Klose's header made it more realistic. City were on top from the word go. After just 3 minutes Klose volleyed over from James' right wing free kick. Before 10 Weimann was sent away by Martin in the left channel and faced up the keeper before slamming home for his 20th of what must be one of the most brilliant individual seasons of any player. In front of away fans the visitors celebrated. Minutes later Weimann again got behind the disorganised hosts and got to the byline to force a corner. On 17 Chris Martin volleyed wildly over as City yet again broke, and the away side once more went at their hosts as make shift wing back Benarous toyed with defenders, shimmied to cross far post where Alex Scott went down holding his face. The teenager went off with a broken nose to be replaced by striker Sam Bell reprising his wing back role. Derby's best chance came midway through the half as they got behind from the right and slipped to the edge of the box to where Ravel Morrison sent a perfect curling shot goalwards only for teammate Cybulski to stick out a foot to divert well over. On 26 City, comfortable at the back, robbed the home side and Weimann strode away to feed Semenyo down the left who got right to the byline to cut back for Joe Williams who reprised his Blackburn goal winning miscue and sent a wayward volley out to the right - which was returned into the box to where Semenyo could not control under pressure. After a half hour Joe Williams powered over tackles and through midfield before setting Bell clear down the right and in on goal - yet his square ball was quickly cut out before Semenyo could finish. Minutes later the all action striker cut in from the right, teased defenders before slamming a low shot in on goal that deflected wildly away for a corner. Semenyo was the dangeman and within five minutes he had City's second. Robbing full back Nathan Byrne and racing clear again in the left channel, looking up for the square pass then choosing to rocket it into the far corner and wheel away toward the adjacent away fans. Two goals. One sided first half. In front of away fans. This was a rare treat. It might have been three as Semenyo flicked on and Martin sent Benarous down the left channel from where yet again his dangerous cross to the far post was headed behind for a corner. Before halftime Bentley needed to make a rare but stunning save from range from Morrison - while Semenyo in injury time stung keeper Allsop's hands from 25 yards. With City 2-0 ahead the second half was an altogether tamer experience although early on star man Semenyo tested the keeper yet again from range. But Derby were starting to combine well and City relied on in form Atkinson making crucial interceptions at the back - time and again inch perfect tackling to stop Derby advances before they started. Before the hour Benarous got down the left and fed Semenyo who screwed back to the edge of the box for Weimann to volley well wide. City could have been out of sight but stood off the next (first) well worked Derby attack down the right, offering no challenge as Ebiowei swung a cross over to the far post where Forsyth headed in unchallenged. On the hour there was an almost immediate answer, Weimann strode into space through the middle and put Semenyo clear on goal in the box but his shot facing down the keeper at the right post was deflected back for Bell to drill in on goal again, Weimann at the far post almost diverting the well angled shot in on goal with a speculative last gasp backheel. In a game City dominated by now it was all Derby and on the midway point of the half Ebiowei skipped past midfielders from our right and drove a decisive shot goalwards through a crowd but just past the post. And sub Bell was giving the ball away in terrible positions to compound a feeling a collapse was incoming despite City's dominance. Duncan Idehen came on for his City debut for Benarous with 20 left and again it was the visitors that went close - a nuisance all day Semenyo roared down the left channel and laid the ball off for Weimann to get to the byline and square the ball back where Semenyo fired past the post. No surprise also as Han Noah Massengo replaced Bell. Suddenly City had 3 - Massengo clattered on his first forray down the left and Matty James deep free kick swung into the box to where Tim Klose steered a decisive header into the far corner. In a minute the defender nearly teed up City's fourth - playing Martin down the left channel to funnel Massengo in and cut back for James to screw it wide. In the final ten minutes of exchanges a long ball saw Martin turn inside his marker and feed Semenyo who had just keeper to beat but fired straight at him. Before the end Joe Williams was replaced by Andy King and in what was Derby's last serious threat, debut man Idehen executed a perfect goal saving tackle in the box to deny a right wing incursion. So entertaining fare at Pride Park where City bossed most of the fixture against relegated opponents - highlighting an attacking threat led by Semenyo but also a comfortable last gasp defence evidenced by in form man of the match Atkinson who again looked head and shoulders above all around him. Three games to go, and our best of the season. Bentley 7 Klose 7 Atkinson 8 Cundy 7 Scott 6 Benarous 7 Williams 7 James 7 Weimann 7 Martin 7 Semenyo 8 Bell 4 Idehen 7 Massengo 6

  22. If we recall back to the end of last season, we limped over the line. Then fast forward to Blackpool and Forest Green. Late goals, people thinking this season was a continuation of the last. Then losing at Boro and Reading becoming in some eyes “must win”. What the moral here is that there’s never nothing to play for. How you finish the season (particularly as we won’t see major surgery this summer) directly follows in a lot of cases to the following year - even more so with the compressed gap until 22/23. This four game run isn’t necessarily of value this year. It’s of value next year, and if we can get through Hull and Huddersfield unscathed, it’ll make a world of difference to how the fan base - if not the team - feel psychologically going into next year. I think Pearson absolutely knows that. The next two are by no means dead rubbers, as has been seen by how we approached Sheff and today. I expect an intense, “up for it” performance next Saturday

  23. Agreed. That is what the Pearson era has become. A time when we bring youngsters through. Firstly I would say that Semenyo has come on leaps and bounds under Pearson and the bloke deserves credit for that, yes one could argue ‘it’s maturity’ but that takes away credit to the current staff, who ‘have’ brought a lot more out of the boy. The same or similar needs to be said of Scot who will play for England. Also Our MoM today Atkinson, the bloke Cundy who most of us thought was a figment of our imagination, the two/three lads who played out of position at full/wing back today. Plus the lad that came on and made his debut for 15 today that made a spectacular tackle in his own penalty area etc etc etc! This forum is sometimes spectacularly myopic regarding our team and what is developing in front of their eyes, particularly when we lose. The trashy tweets, comments on Radio Brizz and other media can be mind numbing! Either way, as you allude to succinctly, player development takes time. But it also takes ability from both the player and the staff and no matter what ever the ‘I’m not renewing my season ticket’ rattle throwers think, this City squad has more potential than I’ve seen since 73 which is a combination of a long term club policy and a guy/management team that doesn’t throw money into the khazi!

  32. It may not be clear at all times, but Pearson is getting this team to play some good football, and we look a more solid unit. The front 3 are a product of evidence of what Nige has contributed in his time here. Consistency with selection has been a positive factor, allowing each individual to understand eachothers strengths. Today's first goal is a reflection of that. Semenyo, Martin and Weimann all played a part in the goal. Year 1 complete, now time for the next stage of progression to begin. I'm really looking forward to the summer. We will operate within limited resources, but I have faith that Nige already has targets in mind. Up the City!!!

And fans aren't innocent bystanders if they take no interest in how their clubs are run while demanding their owners take financial risks to secure promotion. Any sympathy I have for Derby fans is tempered by the fact that they appeared mostly to back Morris as he ran their club into the ground.
