  1. Rovers getting my promoted hasn’t pissed me off as much as the reaction by City fans has. Unbelievable the amount of well-wishes I’m seeing on here. You wouldn’t get any such praise for their rivals getting promoted if it was Celtic/Rangers, Sheff Utd/Weds, Villa/Brum, Newcastle/Sunderland, Southampton/Portsmouth, West Ham/Millwall, etc etc etc. I put it down to the fact they’ve been below us for so long that some people forget how much of a horrible club they are. I don’t. They’re a horrible club and I do not wish them well and I will not congratulate them for being the third best team in the lowest division in football. Bollox to them! I’m astounded at the amount of City fans dishing out praise.

  2. 9k in league 1… I wouldn’t brag too much about that, old chap! Aaah, an argument between Swindon and the fewers over attendances… it’s like watching two bald men fighting over a comb! ?

  3. Grow out of it as much as you want. I won’t. They’re horrible and I hate them passionately. Doesn’t affect my life, I can still have thoughts about “more important things in life”, but I’ll always hate them and will never grow out of it like it was some kind of childish fad. I’m amazed by the amount of public well wishing. Modern softening of society I guess - people feel like they have to be ‘seen’ to be doing the right thing. Can’t be displaying any toxic masculinity, must be equitable to all. Bollox to that. They’re horrible. And I won’t ever forget that.

  4. Spot on mate. It’s like the absolute clowns in the Atyeo that clapped that vile piece of shit Holloway. Baffles me. As you said bollox to them. Promotion out of the basement division is hardly an achievement. I sincerely hope they are relegated next season!

  5. A second string Huddersfield side proved to be too much for rejuvenated City, who didn't make plenty of possession count in an open end to the season - on top for periods but 2 down to the play off bound hosts before half time and anonymous in front of goal despite lots of opportunity to build around their box. City probed as well as they have in recent weeks, but the final ball was always lacking - all action Semenyo probably among the biggest culprits - chances at a premium as touches and crosses deserted the visitors, who regularly miscued out of play or swung a ball into and then over and out of the box. The Terriers dominated the opening action yet on 12 Semenyo got in down the right and squared for Martin to force a corner. The visitors recycled the set piece and another ball in saw Semenyo's shot blocked far post before a series of 20 yard pot shots culminated in Semenyo forcing a clumsy save. Midway through the first half a long spell of patient Huddersfield passing saw Massengo deflect Russell's long range shot behind and from the corner Klose had to head behind too. City had been comfortable stepping up to cut out the hosts' threat and yet after the half hour the home side roared into a lead. A halfway line Terriers free kick was laid into the left channel where Toffolo skipped past defenders and marauded goalwards, before Klose's desperate challenge deflected the ball up and into the forwards onward path with just Bentley to beat. The forward made no mistake, curling into the bottom corner. City responded immediately with Weimann feeding Massengo who roamed free out of midfield and sent Martin clear from the left to force Blackman to beat away at the near post. The ball deflected away to Massengo who was hacked down - from James deep free kick Martin headed wide at the far post. By now an interesting sideline (literally) was the nearside linesman who had got so many decisions wildly wrong including giving us a throw in for a ball two yards over the byline. Now he'd miss right winger Pipa miles offside onto a long ball to square to Holmes to force Bentley to parry over at the near post. Before the break City wasted the ball twice in attacking positions with aimless crosses and Huddersfield broke with purpose racing at backtracking defenders with Pipa again suspiciously clear from the right in acres of space, sliding it into the six yard box where Bentley intervened but Ward bundled home. City badly needed a quick response to the 2-0 defecit and after half time they finally got their press working - DaSilva robbed his opposite number and Massengo broke from the left to win a corner, building a spell of pressure that led to Klose volleying wide from 10 yards out through a crowded box. Another interception in midfield saw Martin thread livewire Semenyo clear on goal but this time that same awful linesman did flag for offside. George Tanner finally returned from long injury for Massengo as the game drifted to an end. Before the hour mark Pipa curled over the top right corner from range. A minute later with Klose upfield and out of position following stylish touches to support a City break, Anjorin sprinted clear through the right - the source of all our problems - and laid the ball into the box where Bentley stopped Ward down low. Anjorin would take a pot shot soon after that curled wide right. Into the final quarter of the match and Scott slammed way over from the edge of the box after Atkinson had probed down the left and Semenyo faced up defenders. Minutes later another wayward ball as DaSilva shanked a left wing cross wildly out of play after good work from Cundy and Tanner on the right. Idehen replaced Cundy and then Andy King for Klose - moving to 4 at the back - but the final 15 minutes were utterly forgettable in a match long since over as a contest. It wasn't until injury time Weimann chased a long ball and almost connected from six yards out, and next Martin fired over from 20 yards. In the final of 3 minutes added on suddenly chances at either end - Anjorin strode clean through with City flying into tackles, only to fire low beyond the far left hand post. Then at the other end Martin brilliantly held up a long ball and Weimann's smart lob over the defence put James in - only to volley over. Up against a team finishing in third and with six changes, this arguably showed both how close and how far away City are. Ultimately well beaten and anonymous to the second string of a promotion chaser; but equally an even game on balance of possession where the difference was our wayward final balls. Bentley 6 Klose 7 Cundy 6 Atkinson 7 DaSilva 5 Scott 5 James 5 Massengo 5 Weimann 5 Semenyo 5 Martin 6 Tanner 6 Idehen 6 King 5

  7. How can you say it was a typical away performance over the past 4 years? Most fans would admit our away form has been our saving grace over that period, and those who travel have generally seen better performances than us who only go to home games (watching away on Robinstv). World Cup break is November. Why the rhetoric of Pearson will get until the World Cup break, like you’ve almost sealed his fate, that it’s going to bad next season? Are you really siding with Ian that Pearson should go. We shouldn’t judge an opposition on how many changes made, you should look at what players were changed, how good they are, etc. it’s not like Corberan brought in 6 kids, all changes were established Championship players, although the keeper is most definitely second choice. Mark called them “replacements”. He brought back in his top-scorer (Ward if you were T aware) as one of those 6. How do you reflect on that? He brought back Daniel Sinani who has made 34 starts and 10 sub apps this season. I don’t expect everyone to have an in-depth knowledge of Huddersfield’s team, but then it devalues comments made that it was a second string team put out. To then move on to Benarous’s ACL and pose the question “unfortunate or symptomatic of the hamstring probability centre” is a pretty poor lead imho. Well done Mark for not falling into the trap. Do we not listen to the pre-match interviews. Ian just went on his own agenda (again) about yellow cards for Scott. So, Scott has got 12 yellows, yet hasn’t been suspended once, so I’d imagine he’s well aware of the suspension rules and the trigger points. Then the comparison of last season to this…total failure to bring any context. Yes, we all want City to do better, but there has to be some balance to the conversation, some challenge to the negativity. It felt like “thank duck we lost, so we can all be doom and gloom again”. I stopped listening at that point. Seemed like a result influenced pod to use as a stick to bash Pearson / City.

  8. Could be something to do with the fact that your lot constantly go on about attendances, lie about how many you take away and brag about “taking more dan da sh1t” because it’s “what we do”. It makes you a very easy target for ridicule.

  9. If that was the other way round, the sags would be shouting from the rooftops and demanding an inquiry/legal action if a team played an under strength side and potentially had a player who since being sold could net the club a few quid. I just don’t get this attitude of congratulating them and thinking it would be good to have two clubs at the same level we’d be better served if they went bust and we became a one club city. FTG I hope they have a torrid season in Division 3.

  13. I like to see a local non-league team break through into league football and have some prospect of staying in the league rather than falling back out again. Cheltenham, Forest Green Rovers and now Bristol Rovers have all shown that non league football in the west has decent potential. Will it be Bristol Manor Farm or the Mangos who will be the next to make the step up?

  14. Not a hair gag.... https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/massengos-special-visitors/ Apologies if this was posted before and I missed it. Paid for his old youth team to come over for a visit, a game and to go to the Hull City game. Good man, shame he wasn't able to get some game time in front of them as well.

  15. The only time I will say well done is if they do something they haven't done since 1990 and that is gain promotion to the Championship which has been allusive to them since 1993. A long time. If they manage to win Promotion from League 1 which imo is considerably harder to win promotion from than League 2 I will say fair play to Rovers. Providing we are still in the Championship at that point too (probably will be) I will also say bring it on. It's all well and good being cocky for beating the likes of Barrow, Stevenage, Rochdale and a woeful Scunthorpe team but League 1 is where some real big clubs are and anything above that is a real serious competition. You don't have to be that good to win promotion from League 2 and no that isn't out of bitterness towards Rovers in the slightest as some really small clubs have done it quite often.

  16. I need to listen to this! First i have heard of Benarous's' ACL, THAT is sad news. Can HNM be blamed for wanting to improve his career, get better coaching, and play within a higher grade of abilities? It is extremely unfair to accuse a 21 year old of crocodile tears, when he obviously has affection for the club....but quite reasonably wants to play at a higher level and be ambitious. HNM could supply the funds to overhaul our very average midfield, which would be a great legacy for him to leave?. He has never got a consistent run in the side, and was often switched position, so taking that into consideration, i think he has performed well. More knowledgeable coaches than you or I are willing to pay comparatively big money for him, so THEY can obviously see what he can eventually achieve..........I wish him all the very best, and believe he can leave with his head held high...............anyway off to this podcast...Ha!

  20. Completely agree on your comments about HNM. @Curr Avonplayers can be sad at leaving a club, maybe HNM feels he has outgrown city and feels for his career best to move on , despite liking it at the club and being happy living in Bristol. I think the comment of ‘crocodile tears’ extremely disrespectful and ignorant. Have you never changed employer, where a new employer offers better benefits, wherever that be more income, working pattern etc but been sad to leave your current employer? Please remember how young HNM was when he came to us, a new country, a new language possibly away from family and friends. I’m sure a number of people at the club both playing and non playing have helped him settle into the club and Am Not everything is as black and white as you obviously want to portray it

  21. Come on boys & girls, let Rovers have their moment of glory without all the conspiracy crap. There's been enough of that from the usual knobheads on the Corona Virus thread. Credit where credit is due to Rovers and Barton (who I still despise) but they have achieved what they have by winning games. Go and enjoy the sunshine with a cool pint of your favorite tipple, forget about the Gas and enjoy the close season.

  30. Anyone over forty should have little reason to congratulate them. They can shove their dubious promotion up their wife abusing manager’s poop schute. Just because Cardiff have been our chief adversaries for a generation, it doesn’t make it ok to dish out platitudes to that mob. F‘kem.

  31. When the dust settles and their loaned players have departed the reality for them will be that next season will be really tough. Expect far less ‘Singing the Blues’ posts than this season. At the moment their delusional statements are absolute belters and are a good chuckle. They believe that League One is where they should be, but the reality is that their promotion means that they will be punching above their weight. As you know, Gasheads hate to feel insignificant and small. They are totally impatient when things starts to go wrong and their frustrations will boil over and the ridiculous comparisons with bigger clubs in League One will be a weekly event. It’s going to be ******* hilarious!

  32. As you missed the majority of the games how can you judge? and diabolical is not the word I’d use to describe the season. I’d use two different words - inconsistent and frustrating. That said things did started to improve culminating in the 5-0 thumping of Hull.

  35. Still banging on about leaving Martin out and breaking up our front 3 next season. Oh and replace the entire midfield, which obviously would include Scott, Benarous, Williams. Replace Pearson in September During the World Cup break ( guys the world cup isn't until November !!) Gave me a good laugh for an hour, these guys really are a joke.

  36. I for one applaud your achievements this season. You can only play against what's put in front of you and Rovers did that and won through. Some on here just cannot say the words "well done". I've an inkling some on here may be becoming a teeny bit worried about the gap in the future. Although they won't admit it. Make no mistake though, next season will be tough for you. Oh and "well done".

  37. I said earlier in the thread that technically Scunthorpe broke no rules yesterday. So you are right that there isn’t a case to be had for any foul play. However, it’s not pretty much the same side. Yesterday they made 3 changes, bringing in a 20 year old and 2 2nd year academy scholars (one of which was at left back and was horrendous, I think you’ll agree). Yesterday was 4 players different from the team put out 2 games ago, which was the first game they brought in 1st year scholar 17 year old keeper (who was horrendous, I’m sure you’ll agree). The team yesterday was also 4 different from 3 games ago. But, from 4 games ago and prior, there were 7 different starters, all of which were 20 or under. So Scunny changed the make up of the team 3 games ago and then weakened it again even further last week and then even further again yesterday. As said, there is nothing against the rules in what they’ve done, but you surely must agree that the team they put out 6 games ago vs FGR is chalk and cheese compared to the shower they put out yesterday.

  38. Gould's most recent comments - to Twentyman pre Hull game - gave no indication that a points penalty was a possibility. He said we'd have a similar budget to last year (whether we spend that on just the wages of free signings or, like last year, combine it with a small amount of transfer fee as well, we'll just have to wait and see). He said we'll be looking to find value for money in the lower leagues like Tanner and Atkinson. He also said discussions were still ongoing with the EFL about how much of a club's losses they will allow to be written off as covid-related. I think he meant both in City's case but also generally throughout all the leagues. He said without a definitive decision on this it made it difficult to know exactly how much a club could afford to spend going forward. He said there are also changes to FFP imminent which adds a further complication to how club's can plan financially going forward in the longer term, although I got the sense that these last points won't impact on our short term plans ie this summer. He seemed clear on what the budget was this summer and, again, I didn't get any sense that he expected us to start on a minus points total at the start of next season. Fingers crossed!

Notwithstanding he also cost us €3m so expectations should be higher on the other side of the coin. he has 98 first team appearances for Bristol City, over 100 career appearances.

He did relegate then as well, but he didn't want ownership of that. But the fewers will forget that, just like they did when the dog botherer took them to non league.

  46. When a City Forum has a thread like this, predominately for taking the rip out of the Gas, one has to remember it's a two way street... This week it's their turn to revel in their comparative glory, and let's be honest at their level, what they've achieved since Xmas is pretty seismic. Only Mansfield gaining promotion will top it. Their last two games have produced consecutive dramas that will live in the minds of those who were there, and, in time, 30,000 more who say they were there. Fair play to them, every club's fans set expectations in line with their position, this season has undoubtedly exceeded these expectations. Sour grapes will only put sparkly icing on their 21/22 promotion cake.
