  1. Why should the club be punished for the moronic behaviour of one of its fans. It is very difficult for stewards to stop a few thousand people running onto the pitch.

  3. My Dad wrote to Bristol City to see if they would send a player (e.g. a youth team or someone of that ilk) to help present the awards for the Yatton Junior FC presentations award in 1989 at Cadbury Country Club (now Cadbury House). Bob Taylor said he would do it, and he travelled down and presented every award to about 100 kids from U9 right through to U15s -and these presentation events went on for hours! What a legend on and off the pitch

  4. I’d bet my mortgage he’s going to prison. It’s nasty, it’s aggravated by football, it’s cowardly and premeditated. Defo going down the steps.

  5. What an idiot. Hopefully he gets jail time. If your first thought when your team wins is ‘let’s headbutt someone’ , you’re not safe to be on the streets.

  9. We are also trying to produce first team players for Championship Level To produce any or some is no easy task To get them from Schoolboys to Championship First team level is a massive challenge for any player and any club - so many levels to punch through No one produces them like a factory production line Considering our status in the Football pyramid , we really are developing well behind the first team. Its not just the work within the system but , it strongly appears , our recruitment for the Academy and age groups We are not just sitting and hoping that those produced through the age group academies will provide but constantly looking to add to the scholars and young pros from various sources (Scott and Antoine prime examples) We can thank Brian Tinnion for Antoine and Tony Vance / Brian Tinnion for Alex Scott if you listen to some of the recent podcasts and interviews there is real thought and a individual plan for how these players are then individually developed. For all of our jokes about the ‘High Performance Centre’ the fact that our young developing players are in the same environment , and training with , the first team is a really significant and positive step for the health , and long term health of the Club , in terms of developing our up and coming

  10. There's already progress though. Between Leroy Lita and Joe Bryan, I can only think of two players (James Wilson and Christian Ribeiro) who briefly broke into our first team and neither really established themselves. Of our current first team squad listed on our website, 10 of the 26 players listed came (at least in part) through our development squad. Eight of those ten have - at some point or other this season - started successive games through being the preferred choice in that position (rather than because injuries forced their selection). Two have made over 30 appearances, four have made over 20 and seven made more than 10. I don't see how anyone can see that as anything other than progress. And we certainly don't need to wait and see if Scott or Semenyo will be Championship level performers.

  11. Just to reassure Pillred - my 26 year old son is gay, and to the best of my knowledge has never buggered anyone in the public change rooms when he goes swimming. Consensually or against their will. I'm so proud of him, resisting all that beefcake and behaving appropriately. I hope you feel safe enough to return to a public changing area. If this post triggers you - my apologies for any medical assistance you may require. Hang on - the phones ringing....... It's 1974 and it's asking for you Pillred....

  12. Did I not see a post a few days ago that stated our game hours lost due to injury was 75 hours, season just ending, and well over 200 hours in the previous one?

  13. Think you could write a thesis on it to be honest, I'd have liked to have looked at it as part of my degree but ended up going in another direction. Drug use on the whole is on the rise, not just amongst football fans. Having done no proper research I would imagine austerity policies, increased inequalities and the pandemic have all led to more and more people wanting an escape from normal life, so want to let off steam. Investing in communities etc would help so that people are more content in their daily lives, personally I back legalisation as it would instantly cripple organised crime across the country that relies on the drug trade to fund other crime. Studies have shown its actually reduced drug use in countries such as Portugal, but again having done no research I can't tie myself to a solution. Not looking to open that debate as it's: off topic, incredibly nuanced and I simply don't know enough to have an informed discussion about it without going through proper studies of it. https://twitter.com/BBCArchive/status/826112912074952706?s=20&t=qeZea0DCQjPUkDhWZWgQfQ

  15. I really liked McInnes and was very disappointed it didn't work out for him here. He took on a massive job and I thought he was poorly treated by the Board. He really liked the club and was appreciative of the fans. He was on his own in Bristol for much of the time and I've heard many stories of him being alone in restaurants in Bristol after a game and spending his evening happily chatting to fans. One story. It was my son's 21st coming up and we sent a card in to the club asking for it be signed by the players and staff. It was duly returned in good time and we put it aside as my son was going to be away for his birthday. On his birthday the phone rang at about 7.30 in the evening and a broad Scottish voice asked to speak to my son, claiming to be Derek McInnes and wanting to have a chat and wish him a happy birthday. Knowing my son to be a joker who often put on ridiculous accents on the phone I assumed it to be him. I laughed and said, ' Derek McInnes? Ha, ha, good try but you've overdone it!' Anyway, it WAS Derek McInnes, who'd taken the trouble to note the date and phone up. Despite my initial incredulity (and inadvertent mocking of his accent) he was then happy to talk to this embarrassed City fan for a quarter of an hour and ended by asking me to pass on his birthday wishes to my son. Top bloke who should have been a good fit for City and, as I say, really sorry he wasn't here for much longer.

  19. That could have ended far worse. A charging head butt...hit the right spot, could have killed him. Do we wait for someone to have life changing injuries or worse before something is done? I'd make life bans for anyone who runs onto the pitch...you just don't know what some idiots are capable of. It's getting silly

  20. Don’t ever forget, that a certain Mark Ashton was working with the club as a Recruitment Consultant during McInnes’ time here. No wonder Derek is critical of the recruitment structure.

  26. It's a massive social issue, that needs to be addressed. You only need to go into any City or town of an evening, and there are drunk, drugged up idiots looking to kick off or just intent on anti social behaviour. It's a minority...but it's a minority that will affect everyone when they eventually clamp down putting more rules and regulations in place. It's a catch 22 when it comes to football. The club's want revenue from alcohol sales, and want to encourage an ' atmosphere'...fans singing and chanting. They allow fans to get drunk and do very little as far as I've seen from controlling drug taking. Yet they wonder why a few who can't control themselves start behaving like idiots. Is it impossible not to have an atmosphere without drink and drugs involved? No one wants a sterile atmosphere...but.... You can't enter the ground drunk or drugged up...but it seems you can once inside. It's a ridiculous situation.

  27. Blimey , There doesn’t appear to be literally anything about our Club that you like , or you can show any enthusiasm or hope about - it seems to give you nil pleasure. Ive followed the Club for decades , and had a fair picture for most , of our pre-pro set ups . The current set up , and the number and quality of the young players, is considerably better than we’ve had in my time.

  28. Could even argue GBH given he's had a need for stitches, it was pre-meditated, and the alleged assault was directed at the head. Flip side, no weapon & very quick incident. But yeah, I suspect a charge of ABH or a charge that is eventually pleaded down to an ABH, at least. Guilty plea at the earliest opportunity, knock a third off any sentence, clear CCTV evidence (+ a witness or two) militates in favour of that. Probably passes the custody threshold, even with an early guilty plea.

  36. I was a bit like that with Elvis Costello (will pique @GrahamC’s interest)…liked his music, but had no idea how good he was until I saw him live. ??? Bit of a strange story, apologies for the digression. We were on a skiing trip in Italy and in a bar at lunchtime enjoying a bit of apres ski! Oliver’s Army came on the jukebox and we started singing along. The bar owner who we called the Big Yin, because he looked a bit like Billy Connolly came over, we were expecting him to ask us to quieten down. Instead he asked whether we liked Elvis Costello, to which a few of us said yes. He then told us he (EC) was playing a gig down the road (50km or so) the following night, and as he was driving there on his own, would any of us be interested in joining him. To which a dozen of us said yes!! He obviously couldn’t fit us in his car but he then went on to say that the tickets included a free bus from the cable car station. So we went over bought our tickets, about €10, cheap as pasta! The following evening we met at the cable car station with about 30 old women (70s at least), pink rinse, fur coats, and began to wonder whether we were really going to see Elvis Costello, or maybe some Italian tribute act, or something completely different and the Big Yin had stitched us up. So, we got the bus, arrived at the town, and got dropped off outside an Opera House. We were still all a bit “suss” at this point, but then the Big Yin arrived, and some others less than 70 years of age….and a poster of the Elvis Costello, so relaxed. Elvis came on stage with Steve Nieve (pianist) and delivered an operatic set, which although wasn’t my cup of tea, really showed off his voice. He came out for the second half and played all the stuff we liked. One of my favourite gigs of all time.

  37. Disgusting. The OP’s comment about it then reversing the result of 2 games played over 90 & 120 minutes is seriously bonkers though.

  38. Two things: - The front foot attacking football had gone by Wilson’s last season. He saw how Wigan had ground out games the prior year and reverted to that, meaning we scored 58 goals in 46 games, against 79 goals the season before - Wilson was replaced by Tinnion. I believe, in your ongoing grudge, you are trying to refer to GJ as “Mr Dull” Other than that, spot on as ever…

  39. IMO one of the best managers we've had in the last twenty years. But clearly not backed or understood by the Board. Cotterill in similar vein also came and went. It's taken a long time for SL to realise that we were a shambles, overpaying average players, a holiday camp attitude throughout the club which meant that we struggled to achieve anything other than mid to lower table in Championship. Some may consider that the restoration into a football club under Pearson, is taking a long time. We'll, my view is that we have achieved in twelve months what it used to take three or four years. Real progress and I genuinely believe that we will surprise other clubs and our own fans, how we will do in the coming season.

  40. A familiar story. We were a bloody mess back then, I think people who criticise him and SOD forget what a state we were in. We're still getting over that mess. You'd think we'd learn...

  41. after his team loss to Nottingham forest,WHY? Please don't go down the road of your opinion of Billy Sharp. If the EFL had any back bone it would tell Nottingham forest you have forfeited your place at Wembley This could stop the pitch invasions that have been getting out of hand recently.

  42. Who had come in as a “football consultant” during McInnes’s reign, sacked the Chief Scout Russ Richardson and introduced a Recruitment database? You’ve guessed it? Old Smarmy Bollocks himself - Mark Ashton. I can’t comment on McInnes’s reign that much as I wasn’t watching City much at that time…but an interesting coincidence!! ?

  43. I always see similar suggested but it’d never work. You could just wear the kit of the other team and get them disqualified.

  44. Everyone remembers things differently but I’m surprised how positively McInnes is remembered - and especially to the point of being one of our most talented managers. No doubt the club was a financial and logistical mess back then, he’s spot on, and he did have a difficult hand to work with. But look at the guys he brought in… Stephen Pearson, Richard Foster, not only limited footballers but not great for dressing room unity either. Add to that going 11 league games without a win, with a bad squad but not one bad enough for those results. And then dropping Tom Heaton because he’d run out of other ideas during that time, which ended up lowering the morale even further, and you start to think he’s got to take some responsibility along the line. We were a shambles of a club, but he has to take some responsibility for that.

  45. Pretty much my view on the whole thing too. Really well put. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of us these days think, you're gay? ok not really a story. As a heterosexual male I have to say that some of my favourite lead vocalists have been gay and i'm sure there will come a time when i can add some of my favourite goal-scorers. It's all really about being grown up about things. This is 2022 and not 1972. Talksport made me laugh this morning on Jim White, with the big build up on this player is COMING OUT!!!!!!! Yes, I wonder why it has taken so long. The irony.

  46. A couple of weeks ago we had a new girl start at work. I did something to help her and she gave me a hug. Yesterday I found out (at work) that she is Gay. So what should my reaction be (after reading some of the comments on this thread) if she tries to hug me again as a non gay female ( I hate the word straight, it implies that anything else is not right)? Should I recoil in horror, be afraid to work near her incase she touches me again? No, if she wants to hug me again as a thank you etc I would hug her back as she is a PERSON.

  47. As I frequently point out, probably tediously, Wilson was a failure. Four years and ultimately achieved almost nothing except a destructive player culture which took years to dismantle.
