  1. Ain’t that the truth. Each signing so far has been about the player. How it should be. Pearson, Gould and whoever else is involved, know it’s not about them, and / or aren’t insecure enough to need to make it about them. Refreshing..

  2. Exciting times. I never understood the doom and gloom and the “I’m not renewing my season ticket because I’m not enjoying it” sentiment. It’s the Championship FFS - a great division so what’s not to like; far better than being in league one (or worse). Plus we have an experienced manager who knows what he is doing at this level. We have some great young talent. We improved in the latter part of the season. Yes some of these signings are unproven at this level but this is the market we are in - and we will have beaten a lot of other clubs to Kane Wilson. On Twitter you can see Watford fans who are cheesed off that they missed out (despite the manager connection). I’d rather we were signing a young league two player of the season than an experienced championship has been or journeyman. I’m also pleased that we have prioritised the defence and done our business really early. Our club is in safe hands.

  5. We did indeed. I was a big fan of Wells, but always felt he moved a season quicker than us, I.e. he was always just out of our reach. Buying him at 29 felt like because he’d been on our radar in the past and now he was available we had to sign him, regardless of whether it was right for the time. The use of the team squad building is apt. Happy to take flak, because I actually thought Nige was right to go with a temporary, low risk plan of Vyner and Simpson at RB last season. It failed in terms of Vyner becoming a long term RB. But at what cost was that failure? Low! Wages, relatively low wages of both players, no fees…it didn’t end with relegation or anything that bad. Yep, Nige addressed quickly with Tanner, for a low fee / wages with plenty of upside. A year later he’s picked up Kane Wilson. We now have two 22-year old right sided defenders with huge upside. Knowing when to stick (Vyner and Simpson) and when to twist (Tanner and Wilson) is a great skill to have. Not saying Nige gets its right, nor everytime, but I do feel he doesn’t throw money at solving issues, and that has a lot of merit in our current situation. I’m thankful for that.

  6. Of course we've yet to see the new signings but it looks very promising for the defence next season, the weaknesses should be ironed out and as a bonus Alex Scott will be available to play in midfield. If the forward line can continue from where they left off and we can avoid injuries to key players I'm getting optimistic about our prospects for next season. Nige seems to have a master plan and has the ability to attract players to the club.

  9. Nice comments on the FGR forum: Kane Wilson set to join Bristol City on a three year deal. All the best for the future Kane - one of the best I've seen in a FGR shirt Many thanks to Kane and best wishes for your future. A real talent, I hope it all works out for Kane at City. We'll miss him Thanks for everything Kane. Good luck and best wishes. I’m sure you’ll do well at Bristol City. You’re a star. Good luck to Kane if he signs for Bristol City great on and off the field, heard we will be playing city in friendly weeks ago

  12. Some good signings but let’s not get carried away here. It’s a huge step up for both Wilson and Sykes, and we still need a couple more additions in key areas Its Great to see us get our business done early though

  14. Been a season ticket holder for many many years, and been down the gate since I was 11 years old, being an old git now with walking issues, I would happily pay the price of my season ticket to be able to watch City on BCTV as I can no longer make the games, home or away, which was the usual things I did. Really miss the gate, only made a few games at home last season, and none away, would love to watch every one of their games, no matter what the cost!

  17. A ‘panic’ buy ? In what respect ? In a summer window when we’d already signed half the football league, including SS , and still had Jamie P here How was that a ‘panic buy’ Indulgent and vanity signing , with Junior believing he could create the next Messi and Ashton salivating at what he could personally gain from such a rise in value from the player

  22. Think it’s time for the EFL to let Derby go, cut the strings (the irony of MM having them on strings). Sad as it is for the history / heritage of Derby, it’s fans, it’s employees, there needs to be hard deadline…and it needs sticking to.

  27. Delighted for him- a real hard worker and dedicated player but so much more besides- the goals, the assists, the movement- the playing ouf of position, sacrificing himself for the good of the team a while back, sign of his versatility. Deserves all the good things that happen to him.

  29. I rocked up to the Millwall game with the biggest stonk on thinking we’d thrash Millwall and be finishing the league as champions. Very quickly at 3-0 it shrivelled up like I’d been in the Bristol Channel during winter.

  34. There's an absence of overtly dissenting voices on this thread so if for no other reason let me try out the argument against (besides the revenue/attendance point several have flagged*). It comes down to whether people who follow football see themselves as supporters or spectators. I think the vast majority will say the former - and I think the two are materially different. Support is active not passive, it's meant to represent a level of effort and investment to consummate your allegiance. A spectator is a viewer: passive and purely entertainment focussed. Every one of us I hope remembers their first game, the first time they walked out into a stand (normally into Ashton Gate), the first time they saw live football and the scale of their ground. We need to protect the effort required to experience that buzz, to be able to properly support your club. Otherwise some people will never experience it or others never get addicted to it. Football is not meant to be 'Netflix' or fans will get bored at Bristol City Season 3 Episode 9 and switch over to Forest Season 1 Episode 1 and that might be that. Allegiance requires effort. Allegiance is also about proximity - a convention that would be destroyed by unlocking TV access to any club. And it is about being able to support (as in physically get behind) your team. Even for away games the VPN stuff hasn't sat right with me. How many people hand on heart would have ever made that extra effort to get to an amazing away game if they never had to? Making an alternative and universal point of access to football that requires no effort may stop large numbers - even generations - of people from having experiences that bond them to us. You don't build affinity and loyalty without effort and experiences. A viewer is someone who can switch off. Get people hooked on these experiences, and as we all know, we all come back. (*And obviously the revenue/attendance point is not to be ignored: at a time when football finances are precarious, it's insanity to introduce a lower cost / lower commitment access point).

  35. Bit of revisionism here although tbh a range of views. https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/39808-if-quantuma-hadnt-accepted-the-extra-9-points/ Apparently a good lawyer would have got the -9 overturned and had a crack at reducing the -12 too! Non compliant accounts meant the EFL could do as they see fit to an extent- that combined with Insolvency...well see the Professional Standing rule. What some of them perhaps fail to grasp is that one or more of the following would have been a goer- btw the IDC ruled x but the LAP is the Upper Tribunal and their judgement falling against Derby meant they were in deep trouble. What this poster chooses not to grasp- and the kind of revisionism in and around the thread really does wear sympathy somewhat- is that their overall strategic position may have been worse still. The EFL's best bet in the event of a fight would have been to drag it out as long and painfully as possible- I'd have done that. Buyer would not touch the club with a barge pole while that was dragging! The judgment by the LAP- which sits above the IDC in the pecking order- meant that Derby's accounts were officially non-compliant and the EFL could do what they did, ie Professional Standing and so on. Why would the Upper Tribunal uphold some kind of dismissal by the IDC for the -9...when they were the ones who deemed Derby guilty last May! Anyway yes, options for the EFL- who pays the legal fees for Derby btw, how does that work- a club losing money and reliant on high interest loans just to keep the lights on ie the MSD loans... It is eminently possible that as a result of the complexities and fresh charges, the case may still be ongoing now- which would mean that Derby would be nowhere near a takeover. Goes without saying that a new owner would inherit the shitstorm if they manage to hold their nerve and dispute- if a takeover and remaining an EFL member was even possible in those circs. Obviously the Professional Standing Embargo remains in full force while the case is ongoing and yes any academy player coming on for a late sub appearance counts towards that 23 from memory? Or the EFL can go after them with 1 Hearing per breach- that would be 3 and who knows how long that would take- with point 3 still in full force. Would Derby even still be standing had they fought it? Plus there is always the small matter of the notice of withdrawal of Membership for being insolvent- what a Pyrrhic victory that could have been. Think that is 90 days. That poster seems to know a fair bit about accounting and finance- assume he is one, but I don't see how the idea works in reality.

  36. And simply , signed two players who weren’t as good as the one we already had - summed up our recruitment most of those years Three players for the same role, - fantastic No strategy in recruiting for side / squad building I remember discussing the signing of Wells with @Davefevswhen it looked as we were signing him We both had real doubts , particularly in how Johnson intended or even had a plan in how to use him - Well that worked well ! ** ** It didn’t help that we had Famara who appeared to be unable to form a partnership (Despite his lauders , and I will get much flak , but I actually think Famara , in his style held us back for some time) Even Klopp , at the highest level , under intense pressure , skimmed on signing a centre half , until he could sign the right one , for his requirements and the requirements to play in his system , and thrive in it

He died six weeks after leaving office. I met him three or four times around ages 4 to 7. He left a massive impression on me. He said do the best you can but always be honest with everyone. I've tried to.

  46. Kalas will hopefully be sold on recoup a small amount of the vast fee Chelsea managed to get(the term saw them coming springs to mind) from city. His performances have been ok or average for most of his time at the club, taking into account the fee and salary must rank as one of the worst signings in recent times.
