  1. Sorry, I've run out of likes - thanks to everybody for your kind thoughts. I'm not looking for sympathy, I feel so much for the young people and children who are going through this, my son's mate has a 2 year old boy who is having treatment at the moment - an old Biddy like me is nothing compared to that situation. Anyway, I've got a season ticket which I aim to make full use of, so cancer will be getting nutted in the nether regions as far as I'm concerned. Who would want to go through the Pearly Gates, when they can freeze their butt off in a tent every other Saturday? ?

  2. Good to see that they've got some West Country sponsors on the advertising hoardings even in Austria.

  3. Netty, to be a Bristol football supporter you need to be blessed, in equal measure, with an inner strength and an gurt big slug of stupidity. I’m sure that you have the former in abundance. The fact that you’ve bought a season ticket for the Mem shows that you are likely also completely overwhelmed with the latter! You’ve been a valued poster on OTIB for a long time and thus, like it or not, you’re a member of our family - the blue sheep, perhaps, so we care about you. We all wish you well in your battle with this bloody awful disease and know that you’ll call upon your inner strength to fight it all you can. Call upon ours too. We’ll be here for you any time you need us. All of our best wishes are heading your way. xxx

  4. Fair play to him, that's a big old step up from Rovers. Have to see if he's up to it.

  5. Thank you. I've suffered badly with mental health for over 10 years, sometimes unable to go out of the house for long periods of time. For me, the good natured exhanges on here replaced the Monday morning banter which I used to have with City supporters at work. All part of the enjoyment of being a football fan for me.

  7. This looks so similar to the Italian game, it feels like all these Prem players are keen to be the star rather playing with their team mates. Scott looks for the pass if it on, but rarely gets it back. I think this game will follow the same trajectory as the last one, the England lads will outlast their opponents, especially with the wind in their favour in the second half, but they don't look like a team to me, just a group of individuals.

  8. Wayne Rooney and the Little Ram that Could Bank Holidays The general nature, extent of, and reasons for international anti-money laundering checks Oh, don't worry. Chris Kirchner is a fraud Congratulations to @Mr Popodopolous for making 'ze List'. Will it be -3, -15, kicked out? Who knows!? Mike? Wayne Rooney and the Weirdly Paid Wages Wayne Rooney and the Long (but suddenly very short) Goodbye Oh look it's some local bloke. That's that then... ...for now.

  9. I think it's been suggested that with Bell and Conway, one will stay as cover and the other will be loaned out until January, and then they'll switch until the seasons end. So by that logic they're both viewed as ready to challenge here. Player development isn't a straight line, but I think the fact we've given this lot some first team minutes and involved them in first-team training means we believe they all have the minerals to be future City stars, but for now we need them getting minutes.

  10. I know that some moan about SL but honestly, I'm very pleased and thankful that he's our owner, for the money he has invested and continues to invest in our club. The horror stories of clubs like Derby, Birmingham and WBA shows the lasting damage that unscrupulous owners can have on a football club and its supporters.

  11. Well done Alex, decent tournament. Excellent passing, decent tackling, nice goal. Learning points; less diving in making tackles, less diving when tackled. Overall 8.5 and one of the better England players.

  12. Losing the ball on the edge of your opponent's 18 yard box shouldn't classify as a mistake if they then go on to score. Maybe your own 18 yard box like, but no way can you blame AS there. Israel still had plenty of work to do.

  14. In this case, my thoughts consisted of "I have incurable cancer, maybe life is now too short to get involved in unnecessary dialogue". I believe that I need to focus on the positives in life, and the laughs on here have provided some of that in the past, for which I thank all posters.

  16. Alex Scott benefits from being a regular player in the second tier with PL interest in him. He’s played more first team games than all the Elite academy players combined (right?). He can go into this game knowing that he is just demonstrating his ability to already interested suitors who would be quite confident he can step up. All the others at Man City / Chelsea etc approach these games as something they can use to just get another 3-4 year contract on ridiculous wages whilst they never get a proper move and continue the lower league / European second tier loan merry go round.

  20. I do remember at the time thinking ‘Bristol City playing home games there - on a large patch of land between Brislington, Knowle West, Hengrove, Hartcliffe, Withywood and Whitchurch - what could possibly go wrong for away supporters?!’

  22. Thank you guys. Being from the blue side of Bristol it's so reassuring that people care no matter who you support. Having battled through cancer myself over a 12 year period reading your replies to INT has left me in tears.

  26. Good video from the camp today: I did see a comment along the lines of “Botswana vibes” and I’d see that as a good way of describing things. There seems to be a togetherness in the group we’ve not had for some time…

  27. Bright added: "The uptake in Season Ticket holders has blown us away ahead of the new season. Last year, we had 3,900 and right now we are just under the 5,000 figure. Our highest as a club was in the 2015/16 season when we hit 5,056 and we are very close to that number - it would be great to make 2022/23 the season we set that record. What a record number of season ticket sales that is mind ??

  28. I am very sorry to read this and brave of you to write it. As football fans, opinions vary broadly depending on which side of the divide you stand but when it comes to cancer we are all on the same side. One of the endearing qualities of OTIB is that although its a Forum for Bristol City fans it also welcomes opinions from fans of other clubs. Long may that continue. Good luck and best wishes.

  30. From a West Ham / David Moyes / Rob Newman perspective signing Semenyo for circa £20 million, would, imo, be a massive gamble that could ultimately cost them their jobs. West Ham fans were pi**ed off with the lack of activity in the January window. I can't see it going down too well if they splash a large portion of their transfer budget on a (possible) 4th choice striker behind Bowen, Antonio, Danjuma (or a n other international striker). Moyes likes shopping in the Championship but can't see the fans being too happy with that now that they have had a taste of Europe. Maybe January if they still need goals, which was their main problem last season when Antonio was out.

  31. "We were somewhere around Hounslow on the edge of the North Circular when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive..." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge gasheads, all swooping and screeching and diving around the minibus, which was going about a hundred miles an hour to Wembley. And a voice was screaming: "Holy Jesus! Who are these goddamn animals?" That explains everything!

  32. This, this and this. Pearson is all about attitude and the right people to be here. King is one of those people, the new signings all seem to have the same type of winning mentality and attitude. I cannot understand why people just don't seem to see it!

  33. I know you had Covid issues from another conversation on a different thread but this is very sad to read. Obviously I don’t know your situation but modern treatment is incredible and I hope to read your posts for a long time yet. As Robbo said earlier, the vast majority of ridicule towards Rovers on here is not aimed towards good posters like you and Miah, I know you’re respected on OTIB for your patience as much as your posts. I wish you all the best in your fight. If you ever need to talk, publicly or privately, I’m sure there are many posters on here who would be happy to listen. Take care x

  34. Our thoughts are with you ITN. You've always been a decent contributor to this forum. I hope you know, when I ridicule the Gas, I am not ridiculing everyone who supports them. I may not understand them! But people have the right to make their own mistakes - of which supporting the Gas is, of course, one. For you personally, I hope your journey is a peaceful and long one, and as pain-free as possible. Stay strong.

  35. "Resources." "Tools at his disposal." Cotterill first full season in charge (2014/15). Biggest signing: Kieran Agard £750,000. Second biggest signing: Luke Freeman: £150,000. Wilson first full season in charge (2000/01). Biggest signing: Lee Peacock £600,000. Second biggest signing: Lee Matthews: £150,000. Cotterill finished in 1st as champions with 99 points and 5 defeats. Wilson finished in 9th with 14 defeats. "Plenty of other managers"? Adjusting for 14 years of inflation Wilson easily spent more in League 1 too.

  38. Yep. And because this season has a break for the World Cup, some of the midweek games are to compensate for missing weekends, so for broadcast purposes they'd be treated like a weekend round and won't be available for red button/streaming.

  39. This is spot on for me and something me and my old man were discussing recently. I feel Nige is a very much doing what SOD did whilst being a much easier character to like than SOD and one with obviously a better pedigree in the game. SOD set the foundations for Cotts to come in and flourish and get us out of League 1. I genuinely feel Cotts wouldn’t have done what he did if SOD hadn’t set the foundations for him. I really hope it can be Nige who gets us to the Prem and not somebody else but the job he is doing is setting a really good platform for either him or somebody new to come in and get us promotion in the not too distance future IMO.

  44. It’s in a piece written by Rich Forrester and has a lot of speculative 2+2 stuff. I wouldn’t be taking too much stock in it until we see how the rest of pre-season goes and the window end approaches.

  45. Get the impression that Nige knows the tide is turning in our favour now. A change of attitude, application and personnel within the squad seems to have changed the culture within the club. It sounds like every player has worked hard during their time off and have exceeded expectations when returning for pre-season. It's starting to look like his squad now, whilst still missing one or two pieces, it certainly looks like a team he is happy to work with and feels he can get the best from. Positive feelings for the season ahead.

  47. I agree with @Robbored that Cotts had a clear advantage over all but perhaps Sheff Utd in L1 that season, probably a top two or three budget in the division. The thing is, unlike many or most of those that went before him here at that lower level, he made it count! He made it sing! He delivered. In spades. And unlike every other promotion season, we were right at it until the second half of the 46th game, we've never known a City team to not let up, a relentlessness, like Cotts' team in 14/15. To go away to a top 6 side and seal promotion with a 6:0 win: that was, for us, remarkable, regardless of budgetary advantage. Cotts took a top 2/3 budget and delivered 1st. Doesn't always happen here. Pity he was set on doing something similar straight away in the Championship ......

  48. It was a sad sight at the Riverside last term as very few teams brought big away followings to Teesside. Explanation : No one really wants to go to Middlesboro In comparison, Boro topped the league for average away attendances, taking on average 2,260 supporters to games on the road Explanation : They can't wait to get out of Middlesboro. QED: Middlesboro's a shit hole.
