  1. Players and teams used to have good games and bad games, sometimes everything clicked sometimes they didn't. It seems that with the advent of social media and the ability it has given to every Tom, Dick or Harry to give their instance opinion, players are either ******* useless of ******* world beaters dependent on their performance in one game, or even one thing they do within that game. Managers are either amazing or clueless based on individual results, and one bad result means everything that went before, no matter how good should be thrown out because it failed this time. The

  2. Tonight was the night where @1960maaancalled it on twitter. He said that when Bakinson is struggling, the blend of MF3 with Pato and Weimann gets exposed....and neither of them are the type of player to sit in with him and help him out. Systems are only as good as the players in it. That blend of 3 has worked pretty well this season, tonight it didn’t. There might be recognition from Dean that against this type of press, you either play a different blend of MF3 or you look for different ways of exploiting the emphasis put on those 3 by the opposition, either by: - playing over it

  4. People on here talking about dropping him! Basically, he has become our best and most important player and the type of player that we have been missing in that role in midfield for years. I would go as far to say that if he has a bad game, the team underperforms...as per last night. It would be madness to drop him and the best thing for him to do is play another game asap. I can't see him playing that poorly again and he needs to prove it as soon as possible.

  5. Individual errors will always pop up in games, I'm far more concerned about the fact we didn't have a single shot on target in the whole match. Conceding cost us a point but with no shots we were never in with a hope of winning all 3 points.

  6. I dream that one day, hopefully soon, Deano, Bristol City will be gracing Old Trafford like the boys of 1976-80. On that note it's still magical to recall a very rare feat, a City win at the 'Theatre of Dreams' and Kevin Mabbutt's hat-trick, on October 21st 1978. Thanks for the wonderful memories Kevin and also to my friend Chris Bradfield for commending them to DVD, via an antique reel-to-reel video tape that was originally filmed by Jonathan Pearce's father, John. You can see them on YouTube: I also wrote this column for the Evening Post

  8. Wonder why TM went in and apologised to the team if it was so clearly the keepers fault. Singled out by the manager as making a mistake and needing to learn from it. I think your 95% is attributed to the wrong individual.

  9. Drives me mental, these short goal kicks. Hate them, it just invites trouble.

  10. Well, yeah. But he was at Rovers before that. It's pretty much the same thing; City’s Kevin Mabbutt scored a hat-trick at Old Trafford, and Rovers' Denis Bailey scored a hat-trick at Old Trafford (for QPR).

  11. Walsh is a week or two away, I think someone has said that regularly for the last few weeks. Williams is training on grass, which means it could be Saturday or 2022. Got to the stage I'm not sure they exist.

  12. The main concern I have with Dean is reacting to issues on the pitch and whether he will make the tough calls LJ did not. Tonight worryingly was the same trend. All playing poorly; Bakinson, Rowe, Hunt, Paterson all struggling and due to this; Andi, Chris and Nahki seeing none of the ball - what shall I do? I know - replace the front 2 in the vain hope we suddenly can suddenly string two passes together and put them in. This panicky, non-sensical response was a hallmark of LJ and I hoped not to see it again but alas. Brunt for Bakinson and in the strange absence of JD,

  13. No, but both are exciting young players look like they could make a really positive difference so not surprisingly fans are eager to see them in the team.

  15. Have I missed something here ,SL and me are expecting a top 6 finish anything less and Dean will be shown the door. After a protracted interview process I can't imagine a give me 3 years line would have secured the job,( judge me after 4 transfer windows anyone) Let not rewrite history this season is all about a top 6 finish

  16. We’ll have to wait and see what the line-up is on the official website at 2pm on Saturday. Anything else is speculation.

  17. I do actually. We have makings of a good squad. When fully fit, somewhat well-balanced. Two or three really good keepers. With Mawson or Baker fit we have a really good back 3. Although without one of them then the back three works a lot less well and not sure how suited Vyner or Moore are to a two. hunt playing well. Dasilva to come in. We have a lot of central midfield options to go through to work out who works well together. We already know it’s likely to be Bakinson plus someone. And given his stats since restart, Patterson is in there too. That’s progress compared to last

  18. 95% Bents at fault. Moore isn’t expecting the pass, and isn’t even looking toward Bents when the pass is made, he has an opponent close to him, who is looking at Bents and reacts immediately. Poor decision to make the pass, Moore tries to retain possession, fails.....goal.

  19. Statistics also show that when black people and white people come before US courts on identical charges, it's the black people who attract the heavier sentences. Statistics also show that black people resisting arrest are more likely to be shot by police than white people resisting arrest; and black people carrying weapons are more likely to be shot dead by police than white people carrying weapons. THAT is the genesis of BLM. It doesn't even need to be a conscious thing. It's the insidious racism contained in those facts that led to protests. Not just about one death, but hun

  20. No. You absolutely do in our position. The fact is that two years ago Mawson was in the England squad. He played 30 games for a promoted team last year. Without the doubts over fitness, he’s not in our range, either wages or overall quality. And with 30 games last year, he’s worth the risk. Its the same as Benik. It was the ACL on his other leg he injured! We have no guarantees if our long term it’s a new or pre-existing injury We’re not a club who can sign the top players, at top fitness, on top wages. So, you go for players either below the top level, or those who are top

  22. Half way through the second half I went out for a fag, left my screen on otib. When I came back I saw there was FIFTY odd postings! At that moment I knew we were one down, went back to live stream and sure enough, we were. My point being, when WE score there are usually only about 25-30 immediate responses. Can you see where I'm going with this ?

  24. I too am frustrated that Ryan Williams is nowhere near the first team....but to answer a few of your points: - Harry Wilson. Reported Cardiff paid £1.2m loan fee and £60k p/w in wages, likely Liverpool penalty clauses also. He’s good, but he’s not a guaranteed five star a game. And I wouldn’t pay that for him in the current climate - Benkovic. Tbh, I didn’t feel (pre lockdown) he was great. Better post lockdown but again, sizeable loan fee/wages likely and I’d take the development of Moore over the development of Benko - he again isn’t your “star” signing, he’s decent and not so

  27. Right. Wyscout has updated. Just for a bit of background, earlier this season, probably Coventry, the consensus was Massengo gave it away all the time. The passing stats proved he didn’t. My view (going with the eyes) was Bakinson gave it away a lot last night. my eyes were wrong, just 4 out of 32. However, sometimes things we consider a pass are a coming together and tracked as a duel. Possibly some of the times he was dispossessed were duels. Not his best night but possibly made to look worse by Paterson and to a lesser extent Weimann. If any

  29. I can confirm that the Middlesbrough refunds for season card holders who paid in full have been processed and that Swansea refunds will be processed in the next couple of days. DD paying supporters who are not currently in arrears should receive refunds for the 3 October home games at the end of the month.

  30. Agree with just about everything you have alluded to.............just wanted to make the point, that given the efficiency of 'Boro's game plan, I would have brought Brunt on. We needed a crafty older head on the field, this guy has the experience of unlocking stubborn defences, and it would have been a good roll of the dice? Surely this was exactly the kind of game he was recruited for? IMHO.

  31. Simply put, there were two mistakes here. Bentley shouldn’t have passed to a player who had his back to him, that was mistake number one. That mistake ultimately should have gone unpunished, as TM had plenty of time and options to get out of the situation that Bentley had put him in. Mistake two was obviously TM trying to dribble past an opponent when he’s the last man. Odd decision and one that will stick with him and cause him to probably be more cautious in possession for some time. Important thing is that both players learn from the mistake and move on.

  32. Yes, Taylor could have distributed out left or simply got rid.... But lets be honest.... Bents has to give the shout before making the pass...

  33. Last night showed we cannot base our entire season around Bakinson, Paterson and Weimann. I agree that can't base it around Walsh and Williams also............but there are enough combinations around the five of them (six when you add Brunt) to be able to keep things fresh and perhaps have the answer for different type of opposition. Hindsight, I accept, but we had completely the wrong midfield selected last night......I understand why Dean Holden picked it the way he did but it was clear after 20 minutes it would never work due to the opposition carrying out their Manager's game plan perfectl

  34. Some are trying though, so that Moore remains untouchable. Imagine if Vyner had done that, I guarantee no one would be mentioning Bentley. He is meant to be our best footballing defender, that was park level.

  35. I’d like to see us give him a go alongside a more natural central midfielder who can share some of the dirty work. Weimann and Paterson was working until last night, but I don’t think that system will work over an entire season. I’m hoping Joe Williams will compliment him nicely. Then you can play one of Paterson/Weimann (eventually I’m curious to see Walsh). On paper I think it gives us better balance and should stop teams overloading Bakinson. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bakinson given a go at CB at some stage.

  36. Sorry but this rubbish . We constantly got overran in midfield playing a 2 everyone plays with 3 central midfielders in the modern game . It’s not the system . We’ve had one really poor performance , boro did a job and stopped us getting the ball into pato , wells and Martin . When we did , we were poor with it. your suggestion is exactly what we all moaned at Johnson about . Throwing the baby out with the bath water after a poor result . He believes in it , so stick to it . The more we train with this system every day , the players get used to it and better at it.

  37. The Barnsley game didn’t go wrong. We played well, established a lead and managed it well until the 95th minute. It was nothing to do with the formation that we conceded a dodgy penalty. Last night we were bullied by a Warnock side. It was an off night, but we need to learn from it and move in. I’m sure that we won’t see any kneejerk reaction from Dean.

  38. No need for Bentley to play that when he can see everything in front of him BUT in the end Moore could have popped it straight back and Bentley smash it up the pitch. As awful as we were over 90 minutes we robbed ourselves of another point last night. Most mistakes are honest mistakes by players and you get the odd one which is just plain stupid and unexplainable. Last night comes in the latter category and if those two took a bit of stick in the dressing room from one or two afterwards you would be hard pressed to stick up for them.

  39. Honesty is far better than the bullshit we'd have got from LJ, and he says "we" which his predecessor couldn't do except when winning. Can we analyse the cause and do something about it? We'll see.
    3 points
  40. So... You want to see a 4-4-2 where the (assumed) wide midfielders aren’t wide midfielders, where the fbs still want to push on and where we don’t really have a DM to help cover? I think the problem tonight was inherently midfield, and Colin saw that and pressed it. I’d stick 5-3-2 but tweak (JD in, look to play at least one more natural CM) but baby and bath water seems a bit much to me

  41. I like this. Clearly not happy with what he's seen and no attempt to make excuses or try and pretend that it was better than everybody thinks it was.
    3 points
  42. Do you really think that will happen? Completely change all our plans & formation because we have lost one game?
    3 points
  43. After a horrendously low quality 1st half, there was barely any improvement at all in the 2nd. We've become accustomed to Holden and co turning our performances around, a la Sheffield Wednesday at home and Barnsley away, but no such impact this time. The defending was largely solid, but there was too much of it. The midfield didn't seem to have a plan. We didn't play between the lines, or switch the play, or play one-twos, or overlaps.... Bakinson's passing was completely off, but at least he kept showing for the ball, which didn't seem to be the same with Pato and Weimann
    3 points
  44. Paterson has flashes of quality but disappears for large parts of the game and Weimann is a headless chicken who is rarely where you want him. Playing both of them together stops us playing through midfield and controlling any part of the game. I can’t wait until Walsh and Williams are fit.

  45. Give Flint a reasonable set of defenders around him, let him regain some confidence, and the Owls will have got themselves a centre back with 5 years experience at this level, who also has a very decent goal scoring record. There are definitely less good players than him in that position in this division.

  46. Again you are being a bit naive in not realising that anyone can set up a website. The website itself states that it is "not affiliated with the @UKBLM Twitter account or Black Matters USA. None of these things are affiliated because there is no organisation, just some people who have set up some websites. You could set up a Black Lives Matter website tomorrow if you wanted to, or I could. You or I could put whatever you wanted on there but we'd not suddenly turn Black Lives Matter into an organisation by doing so. You seem to confuse "someone having set up a website" with "an organised o
    2 points
  47. Nor does anyone else. The "organisation" you refer to does not exist. BLM is a slogan, not an organised movement. Yes, someone has set up a BLM UK website or Twitter feed or whatever but I could very easily set up a Twitter account calling myself "True Bristol City fan" and it wouldn't suddenly make me the official voice of Bristol City fans or some kind of Bristol City supporters organisation. Being honest, you're being a tad gullible in letting people convince you Black Lives Matter is an organisation. It isn't.
