Today's game between Wolves and WBA was only the second game at the Hawthorns between the clubs since 2011.

It demonstrated to me, the absolute carnage that would occur the next competitive game between us and Rovers.

We haven't played them in the league in 23 years and in the cup for 11.

The scenes before, during and after would be reminiscent of Apocalypse now in my eyes, absolute chaos.

That's why I say to both my ST sons that haven't ever seen a Derby that there is nothing to be gained by ever playing them again.

Every year that goes by just enflames the cauldron just that little bit more.

When we played them twice pretty much every year in the 80s and 90s, you could deal with the build up, atmosphere and game itself. Not now I'm afraid, it's gone too long. A whole generation of fans waiting for an opportunity to let loose all the pent up misdirected angst.

Shame, it was a game I always used to look forward to. Now I just dread every cup draw when we could possibly draw them.

Absolutely this. The longer it goes on, the more insane the game will be when we finally play each other.

Can you imagine the scenes at AG if a few Gashead's celebrated a goal in the Lansdown? It would go off big time.

If you are daft enough to buy tickets in the home end, keep your head down FFS.

Of all the crap we've followed and laughed at from those blue clowns over the years this clip probably makes me laugh more than most. Thanks Sniper for sharing again. ?

I too am a bald-headed ***, and am frequently blamed for things that go wrong.

It sounds just like my wife...?

This is up there with the "unlucky the shit" video!

It's also another team that made it back to the top flight before us. (for us 43 years and counting)

How many still-existing former top flight teams have a longer hiatus than us?

Can think of Orient (I think), Carlisle, a few knocking around in the lower leagues, but there can't be many with our stature.

    Exactly what I'm thinking

Yet another club goes past us.

When we beat Liverpool in 94, my uncle (who was about the same age as I am now) turned me and said:

"We're on our way back. It's been a long road, but we're on our way back"

We'd only been out the top flight 14 years at that point! That's shorter than the gap between now and the play-off final...

    FFS.

A lot of sides in the A league represent different nations that now live in Australia it makes a lot of the game more country v country and sadly this brings a lot of trouble to there games

When I lived in Ozz they rebrand a lot of the clubs names removing the country’s they were associated with and changing the club badge removing flags ect. It was to try and make it more main stream and attract fans from other ethnic groups if memory serves me well . This was probably nearly 30 years ago now but would imagine the clubs still have strong links to various countries

This isn't the case in the a-league - it's why the league/clubs itself is only about 15 years old.

They were set up to replace the old national soccer league. This was where the historic clubs lived (and still do, they've all just been booted down into state based leagues). These were the ones set up by various sets of migrants and have their historic ties - greek, Italian, Croatian, Dutch etc etc and often had trouble at the games.

This current wave of trouble has been set off by the brewing frustration at the way the league is run - no relegation, daft insistence on playoffs rather than a league champion, security clamping down on atmosphere, increasing costs to go.

It exploded this week when the bosses decided the rather than the league winners hosting the grand final - it would be in Sydney irrespective of who's qualifies. All of the other clubs had peaceful walkouts during their games but Melbourne Victory (probably the team with the highest proportion of *********  wannabe ultras types) decided to chuck flares at the players.

The City keeper chucked one back and it all kicked off.

All the media goodwill from the world cup run has gone out the window and they've reverted to the usual AFL/NRL spun "soccer isn't our game" crap.

    Great.

I quite enjoy HHH and some of the others on R4Extra, but the one that many people seem to regard as the creme de la creme, but I cannot stand, is The Goon Show. it's bloody awful, I just don't get it.

I love Milligan and Sellars individual stuff. Even yer man Secombe was good on Highway :)

But I agree - it just sounds like teenagers doing silly voices into their tape player!

I’ve been very lucky and have been to a number of games in the US at:

    Old Yankee Stadium.

    Shea Stadium.
    Camden Yards.

    The Trop.

    The Rodgers Centre.

    Nats Park.

I also went on a tour of Dodgers Stadium in December.

Dodgers Stadium is now the 3rd oldest park in the league!

  7.  Cardinals fan here. I had a tear in my eye when the big fella hit 700 the other night. When the next one above you in the home run list is some bloke called Babe Ruth - you know this is a big deal.

He came home to St Louis for a last year. Everyone thought it was just for vibes and to coach the young kids. No-one really thought he'd be this good.

    He's 43 ffs.

I do remember at the time thinking ‘Bristol City playing home games there - on a large patch of land between Brislington, Knowle West, Hengrove, Hartcliffe, Withywood and Whitchurch - what could possibly go wrong for away supporters?!’

Aside from it being on our patch....can you imagine the nightmare it would have been to actually get to? Transport misery.

  9. Hi all,

    Sorry for the daft question.

Where do people do to buy pervious years kit/merch? I haven't bought a shirt in a few years and also want to get one for my little uns.

I really like the Hummel stuff, especially the training gear, but this years selections don't really appeal. The club used to be half decent at flogging off old gear in sales but they seem to have dumped this.

(Also the shipping costs to ?? are yuk)

Is it just a case of scouring eBay or am I missing something?

    Thanks everyone.

    Undone by 2 late goals!

Play offs in store for them now, against the UAE and if they win that, then the 5th placed team in the South America qualifiers, looking likely to be Peru or Uruguay (who incidentally play each other tonight).

Tough route for the Aussies, I personally don't expect to see them at the World Cup this time around.

This is the worst Australia squad in 30 years.

Absolutely no chance of getting through the playoffs.

Arnold is no Ange, but he can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

  11. Bowled reasonably well early but didn't make the most of the scoreboard pressure. Looked very inspid from about 30 overs on.

If the plan was to use a bowler as the bouncer Im not sure why we'd leave the fastest bowler out of the side?

We need 3 wickets in the first hour tomorrow. Otherwise the 40c heat will make bowling very difficult.

I'm a pessimist. Could quite easily see Aus declaring on about 450 and us being 30/3 at stumps.

Still. The grounds pretty as always?.

What happens next is we get relegated, no manager is going to change that.

We rebuild in league 1 - get promoted a few years later and in about 6 years we challenge for the playoffs in the championship only to drop away and get relegated again.

History backs you up on this.

About 10 years in the top flight, 2 in the bottom.

Remaining years spent bobbing around the middle divisions.

     and lost 5-0

Not if you lived here you wouldn't.

The last series was an utter disgrace, completely humiliating.

I called 5-0 after watching them in the nets before day 2 in Adelaide. KP was taking throw downs and not a single English player was talking to him.

I'm not saying we'd have won that series. Mitchell Johnson was bowling like a man posssesed - I had the dubious pleasure of watching all of his wickets from behind the arm - some of the best bowling I've ever seen live

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzhzQiW4rtY

but It was obvious something was seriously wrong with that squad.

Don't get me wrong. I love cricket. I want the best XI's to play each other.  BUT if we have to play a team consisting of failed state players I'd take it.

  14. I'm actually on the side of the players in this. The test players are sacrificing potential revenue at the expense of protecting their colleagues lower down in shield cricket. With only 6 first class sides the pool of players is actually quite small and it will be very difficult to retain players if they can't earn a reasonable living at Shield level. The game is already losing plenty of talent to the AFL (can't speak for the NRL, don't live in a rugby league state) and this won't help matters.

However, both sides digging their heels in could be very damaging. As you say, CA have shot themselves in the foot by making all the players unemployed in the middle of a discussion period. They've also threatened anyone who plays in a overseas T20 while unemployed with a ban which is just adding more fuel to the fire.

As it's the middle of AFL/NRL season the media haven't gone big on it yet. If the whole thing isn't sorted by finals time (Sept/Oct) things could start getting very nasty indeed.

(Obviously this is all great for England :-) )
