  1. Other than Sheff Utd none of those clubs had a bigger fanbase or better infrastructure than us at that time (or now). Sheff Utd started behind us but are ahead now. the giants of Barnsley are also ahead of us now. Preston, as ever, are neck and neck with us despite half the fanbase. My take is we’ve done ok, have modernised the ground (which had become essential)... but we are in grave danger of following a pattern that could see us slide back down over the next few years. A better view of teams passing us is the list of clubs to have appeared in the prem whilst we’ve flitted betw
  2. Hmmm I’m not sure he thought process of our board and our fanbase always align!!!!
  3. My only concern is that low ticket sales could be seen as/spun as discontent with Nige.... obviously it isn’t and likely the opposite. With our board/owner nothing would surprise me!
  4. That’s pretty generous. Flip flops on ready for the beach.
  5. When does our “decent signing embargo” finish?!?! Quite frankly we’d have been better off with a transfer ban the past couple of years.
  6. Now there’s the start of a very, very, very long list.....
  7. I was commenting on the radio interview. I’ve watched the club interview now and it does sound slightly different... he’d probably calmed a bit by that point!
  8. I got the impression he’s not too bothered about staying. I might be getting that wrong.... Lansdown has hardly been on the front foot which must seem odd to Nige.
  9. Lansbury on to save the day.... Interestingly, it looks as though Chris Hughton’s Nottingham Forest will overtake us when they beat us next week.
  10. Stern John played a lot of football in the US and came from Trinidad. Largely irrelevant... as was his career with us!!
  11. We never win anything but we seem to be on tv a hell of a lot. Perhaps it’s our niche. Next year perhaps instead of entering the FA Cup we should try to win a BAFTA!!!!
  12. Auf is one of my all time favourites.... but that was an unforgivable clanger! Also, in the first series they all go to watch Sunderland play a friendly... Oz ends up drunk on a boat home to England if I remember rightly.... later, and more logically, they’re Newcastle fans!
  13. What ever was wrong with reserve teams? a blended team of kids and experienced players is surely a sensible step towards first team football. soneone like Pearson (S) or Towler had probably never played a proper men’s game in their life and get chucked straight into the Championship. Crazy. the alternative seems to be loaning them out - but look at James Morton, I don’t think he’s kicked a ball at Gillingham yet.
  14. I’m with you. He’s useful. He’s been stop start in his time here. Part injuries and never ever having a run. Seemed to immediately become the fall-guy for a bad performance. If you were NP, he’d surely seem an alternative. Again, I expect he’ll be let go... probably one look at his wages will decide that! But I’d he does well and stays fit between now and the end of the season, you never know... another year on reduced terms and a fair crack at it, he might turn out ok.
  15. I’m not sure Watkins is as bad as his reputation here... I wonder whether NP might see him as useful. Watkins at least has a bit of presence about him.
  16. I think that’s true. I don’t go back as far as you “only” 1980 and I’ve never seen us play a top flight game. Actually I must be as long standing a fan as there is to have not seen top flight football. I wonder whether now is a turning point? We’re not winning at home, have consistently been wining at home for years AND now we’re not even entertaining at home. I dread to think what the atmosphere would be like if we were all in there.... Couple of observations.... someone with more data than me could probably tell us how bad we’ve been at home since the opening of the revised stadium.
  17. And he’d have been worth his weight in gold this year with all the LCB and LB problems!
  18. Good player. Good luck to him.
  19. I don’t think Hunt is anywhere near as bad as sone make out but I wouldn’t lose sleep over it! I think we need to see Mariappa over the next few weeks. The player I saw yesterday, now fit and in his correct position, looked good. He’s also more of a leader/organiser than we’ve got. At his age, the most he’ll offered is one year.
  20. A good performance from all. Obviously Bentley was outstanding. I think Mariappa had a strong game but more than that seemed to be talking and organising - the things that I don’t think cone naturally to Kalas. Now he’s fully fit, Mariappa is looking an asset.
  21. Gary O’Neil also there. I didn’t know that.... he was working at Liverpool, I think.
  22. I’d love him back here... strikes me his positivity would be just what’s needed now! Also, funny how things turn out. He was shunned for not signing a contract.... fast forward and we are now relying on half a squad whose contracts are running out.
