  1. Let’s face it that for £3m we wouldn’t be able to get Szmodics from Peterborough. In fact they probably wouldn’t sell a striker for less than £5m now even to a Championship club so it’s a no from me. Unfortunately his performances and appearances seemed to drop off at the end of the season and I wondered if we had moved to a head-turned scenario with Antoine. It will all come down to how much we need to fund incomings and whether other than Kalas, Bents and Han there are any other marketable players. It also depends on Nigels view of him and his value going forward but as NP has already made clear players have to decide if they want to come on the journey or not and maybe Antoine doesn’t either have or want a place on our bus.
  2. Bristol City catchphrase maybe but Bristol Bears are part of Bristol Sport and they certainly have an attacking threat.
  3. Are Millwall the worst team that Coventry have played all season, Instant Karma !
  4. Along with Bentley and maybe Massengo probably our best chance of getting decent money in the window to fund incoming. I feel like Kalas would want a club with a better chance of success next season and Antoine seems to have been benched more of late so maybe a deal elsewhere in the works
  5. One could argue that here it was not so much that over time the players saw through him as maybe that here he took over a team that were largely devoted to the previous manager who had brought them success. That was a strong unit to win over, not just for LJ but for players coming into the club. Successful teams often need breaking up as they can be resistant to change not just towards the manager but also from incoming players. Has Klopp now become ‘streaky’ with players that have enjoyed success? Is it that the players have seen through him or that a clique of players are more self confident and and less inclined to take advice and instruction. At Sunderland I suspect players who have not enjoyed recent success at the club would be more likely to respond positively to a new manager as ours did to Cotts when he first came in.
  6. Since the redevelopment Ashton Gate has been lit up Blue plenty of times whether with the Rugby or NHS so lighting the Bridge blue is really not going to worry folks too much I think.
  7. Maybe Darrell has had a call from Mark Ashton who is struggling to find new ways to inflame our fan base.. A simultaneous meltdown on OTIB and Asschat would ensue.
  8. Unfortunately we are in South Glos which had low figures before but was lumped into Tier 3 with Bristol and North Somerset because they shared the same City in parts but has now been separated as its infection figures are now higher. I presume that season ticket holders in South Glos will now be excluded from any ballot. To say that my boy is a little miffed would probably not cover it.
  9. Social gatherings of more than 6 to be banned in England has been announced by the Government tonight. Even limited crowds back in grounds looking unlikely in October or anytime soon sadly.
  10. Technically it’s not a defeat as they get a point and counts as a draw. Walsall get 2 points, the extra one for the penalties. What a strange competition it is
  11. Time to close things down for a while. Surely the Government and FA will act now or else in a few weeks time our services will not be able to cope. Hard though it is to accept there are more important things than football.
  12. So if the same self isolating applies Forest players first day clear would be the day of their match with us. Not sure they would be happy playing a game on their first day back
  13. They would get tested but it takes 5-6 days to emerge and it seems that anyone that has any contact with a carrier (whether or not they get it) have to self isolate.
  14. If he met the team as reported then it is likely they will have to self-isolate for 14 days one assumes so match in doubt
  15. The fans may not notice a difference but the owners will. All clubs will lose crucial revenue and some will probably fold as they would not be able to pay their players/staff. It must be a worry for poor Wally.
  16. I’m guessing there will be some local opposition to the plans. Quite a few dog walkers in St Phillips I believe.
  17. Aiming for a new stadium within 2 years. They are looking for planning on the Fruit Market and expect the council to be helpful according to that very nice man. You would think that area might be a little congested traffic wise. He can’t talk about funding at this stage, not before they havee asked the council to fund it presumably.
  18. Cracking read on Gaschat at the moment. A potential investor/forum member has been told 3/5 years for the new ground. They can not develop the Mem because there is no room left apparently although unbelievably they have discovered a previously unknown building behind a fence in one corner. Nobody knew it was there in the 22 years since they arrived and now they don’t know what to do with it. Suggestions on a postcard please. Rumours that it is their trophy room are yet to be confirmed. They are considering it as a food outlet which should be perfect for out of date pasties I’m sure. Ah the gift !
  19. My opinion for what it’s worth is that there could be various reasons why Gibson got no support from the other clubs including ourselves. Firstly that having looked at it legally there was the conclusion that whatever had been done had broken no actual rule and concerted efforts to punish the ‘offenders’ would be futile. Secondly that it was a case of ‘shutting the stable door after the horse had bolted’. We all know that financially this league is not a level playing field, favouring the cash rich and the ex premier League clubs consistently. Having Derby, Villa, Wednesday etc blatantly abuse the system on top of everything else and then preventing the lesser clubs doing likewise would only tip the balance even more. Indeed the lack of support might indicate that an olive branch had been offered prior to the meeting by the EFL. Something like “okay before we do everything to close this loophole we have a period where anybody else can do likewise as each club can only do it once.” Finally there is the possibility that a ‘plan B’ has been found that would redress the balance a little and it was merely a case of keeping their powder dry until the right moment. It would have been useful if one of the clubs sympathetic with Gibson had an astute financial expert as an owner and an employee on the EFL board. We can but hope !
  20. So Wednesday owner has apparently sold the stadium (as per Derby method I’m guessing) and another bit of FFP avoidance no doubt!
  21. I suspect that anyone like that with a clear conflict of interest would have to remove themselves from the process as it would make any action taken open to appeal. Not that for one minute I would expect them to take any action that could deprive a BIG club of a play-off opportunity.
  22. I would be fascinated to know where the Bristol Post do their research. Today’s story list SL as the EFL’s 5th richest owner and the Rovers owners are in 15th. They seem to now accept that Wael is not a Billionaire (despite his watch and the massive outlay on improvements at the Mem) but still list them as £400m surprisingly above the QPR Owner who a quick google search reveals is worth nearly £14 Billion. Good old Bristol Post never let facts get in the way of a good story.
  23. Coming out of match in Malaga a few years ago (just after Cotts had been appointed) a guy shouted out that he recognised my Bristol accent. It was Gary Penrice who then walked with us for about 20 minutes talking Bristol football. He was the European scout for Everton and told me Cotts would do a great job for us. How right he was. Have to say we had a great conversation and he had nothing but good things to say about City and was a very humble guy. It’s the way of football though that we can hate a rival player with such a passion that it’s quite a shock to actually meet them and find that they are quite likeable.
  24. I don’t think non-league teams count in the equation. I think it is 2 efl teams only.
  25. Possibly but we could have a more defensive 5 without wing-backs if holding on to keep it solid and frustrate them.
