  1. When he was manager at PNE, City did go for him, but the Preston board refused us permission to even talk with the man.
  2. Towed to South Wales and cut up as scrap 1973 /74. Shore installation keeps the name alive.
  3. Correct and imagine how he must feel. Invests sooo much money then both the football and rugby club under achieve.
  4. Today's game, as you correctly write, is just one game out of 46. It is a pointer though to how this season is already panning out. A 3-0 defeat, a 2-1 win after which many people conceded the better side lost, another 3-0 defeat, than today the oppos have a man sent off, City twice took the lead and still lost. It appears to me at least, that this club that means so much to us, is not even standing still, but is sliding back down football's greasy pole.
  5. I'm generally an optimist. Win today and we are looking good for mid table obscurity, (as many on this forum hoped for in August). Lose today though and we'll be looking down.
  6. On Points West last night did they say busses will be charged £100 / day? If true, the bus company will pass that on to the passengers which fill force many more people off public transport.

    Passing

Not just them. I've posted several time in other threads that soooo many passes or crosses are under or overhit and give / gift the ball to the oppos.
  8. Never mind sacking the manager for poor ressults, can we sack players for the same reason?
  9. I'm not at the game but am watching on TV. As so often this season City give the ball away because so many passes and crosses are under or over hit, the players struggle to get the ball to a team mate.
  10. Just looked at their forum and a message for those driving to the ground; Insulate Britain Have blocked Paradise Circus this morning, might be worth planning a different route for tonight if you have to come through that way!

    Nuno Sacked

Interesting to read, after the man was sacked; "Nuno is a gentleman and will be welcome back here anytime". Initial discussions with his replacement took place yesterday. Suggests Nuno is the inly gentleman in this affair.
  12. Oh dear; it's wrist slitting time at Barnsley. (Some of their comments are sooooo similar to ones that occasionally appear on here). http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/what-will-you-be-doing-next-season.309209/ At the rate we're going I'm not going to bother renewing next season. If I want to watch footy on a Saturday I will probably just walk down to watch Wombwell Town such is my complete apathy towards my beloved Reds. Never felt like this in nearly nearly 35 years of following Barnsley. Hopefully Barnsley, under new owners. Maybe Bradford Park Avenue if I go back to grass roots.
  13. Saturday 26th March the gas make their trip to Carlisle. With City not playing that day, we could have a weekend away in the North of England. ?
  14. "Well my mind goes back to 1973/4, Palace were coming to the Gate." I was working away at the time and afterwards asked a mate how come City lost this 'un. "It was just one of those games" was his reply. Yes; I am confident about City beating Barnsley, but then, I was confident of us beating Forest.
  15. I guessed Mick was going as at the end of the game he and Terry Connor shook hands as if saying farewell.
  16. Autumn 1980 City were struggling for cash. Gerry Gow was transferred to Manchester City for £180,000 (as it was aa take it or leave it offer, to raise some capital. At the end of the season, he played in the F.A. Cup final for his new team and at the end of his career, he returned to the West Country and had managerial spells with Yeovil Town and Weymouth. At Weymouth he endured so much abuse he walked away from the game.
  17. "It was pretty much exclusively an Eritrean Barbers " you could have started a chant "One nation in Ethiopia, there's only one", or "Tigray, Tigray, Tigray".
  18. Three memories of the night; Six months earlier WBA had won 2-0 at the Gate, but we were optimistic travelling up the M5 that night. In the second half someone uttered "10 minutes". I thought they meant ten minutes had passed, but to my amazement, it was only ten minutes to go, such was the pace of the game. Afterwards the coach I was on passed the player's coach and they were cheering us!
  19. When the draw was made someone said to Gerry G "That means you'll be up against Bremner". When I heard Gow's reply, I knew we were going to win; "Well I'm a Scot aren't I and I'm as good as him aren't I"?
  20. Not just last night either; he's playing consistently well.
  21. It seemed to me that having got into the Forest area, too many of our players simply lacked the confidence to shoot.Forest were even shooting from outside the box. I think other teams are aware of City's fragility because immediately after equalising, Forest players picked up the ball and sprinted back to the centre spot to get the game restarted. They KNEW they could win that game. If City haad equalised in the 90th, we#d have wasted time kicking the ball into touch.
  22. Whatever happened to shuffling past the turnstile operator (at the age of 18) and handing over 2/6 instead of five bob to gain entry?
