  1. In the ‘60’s (1968?) East St was really badly hit by flooding with loads of fags from Wills being deemed to risky to sell. So the fags were thrown away at the tip (now Imperial Park retail outlet) where lots of people found, sorted the best ones out and sold them! I don’t recall Ashton Gate itself getting flooded but I think Duckmoor Road and Luckwell Road may have done? Lots of flooding also occurred around the Malago in the area at the junction of St John’s Lane and Sheen Road.
  2. As per the OP’s name - where is the joy? Random, almost desperate attempt to find words which almost rhyme even if they don’t quite convey the intended message. I am so glad I’m way too old to have to listen to (c)rap ‘music like this . Everyone to their own but will this generation really look back misty eyed in their twilight years on this sort of shouty ‘music’?
  3. Another COBRA meeting today and looking ominous that major sporting events and other social distancing measures will be introduced? Bad news for the Sags on social distancing - no more marrying your sisters.
  4. I have the misfortune to work with a Villa supporter - who said exactly that when they sold him to us. He does get injured more than most but he also seems more than willing to put a shift in, maybe some of it is just in his head?
  5. Couple of things to point out to you here:- we - along with almost every other professional football team don’t make an operating profit. How come you acknowledge we have all these players with quality, flair and goals yet we don’t see it during the games we play - are you some sort of Bielsa type of spy at the training ground where all these players exhibit their talents? You seemed more confused than LJ on a match day!
  6. Look at other results in this league (e.g. West Brom v Wigan) and try to accept this is a league where anyone can beat anyone, especially when teams finally start fighting for their lives to avoid the drop (and in their wages). A draw at Millwall is ok, a win would have been great but refer to above. Of course what you really wanted to say was was LJ out - but you didn’t quite have the nerve to start another thread on the subject thankfully because we’ve heard it all before and nothing will happen until the season is over.
  7. I see Newcastle United have banned players from shaking hands at the training ground - something they’ve always done at the start of each session, to limit the risk of cross infection. Seems a bit extreme at first but when you consider the players are multi million pound ‘assets’ you wouldn’t want to risk losing one, let alone be the poor individual who gets infected. I’d have thought they would have made it mandatory to wash hands in sanitising gel before any contact amongst the players.
  8. Anything short of a win tonight and the other children will also be getting their crayons out to ask for Lee to be moved on. Then watch as 6 months down the line we have slid back to mid table and that manager gets a nice gardening leave package - to add to FFP, before we spin the tombola to find someone else who can talk the talk. No changes need to be made until after the season is finished. Better of trying and add some positive vibe to the atmosphere around the club, it might just get us where we’d like to be?
  9. Did the team fly up yesterday or are they scheduled to fly this morning?
  10. Has Storm Ciara done the Fewers a favour and relocated to Tent End to the proposed site of their new stadium?
  11. Have you evidence you can share with us ‘the child’ (sure his mummy will like that) that he wasn’t armed or maybe just why the nasty policeman randomly picked on him? South York’s police did have a bad reputation and no no doubt due to that they’re under more scrutiny than other forces so hopefully they’ve learnt from it. Maybe if the idiots who kicked off outside the Spanish Bar yesterday took their aggression into a boxing ring or somewhere more appropriate it would allow us scale back the police presence at our games - and keep our costs down. Also goes the selfish m
  12. I don’t think you could call him stupid. You wouldn’t like to be called stupid in whatever profession you earn a crust and yet LJ - love him or hate him, probably earns more in one year than you will in ten. We all want him and the entire club to be be successful and calling a person with his integrity stupid is just disrespectful.
  13. As always there are two sides to every story - so before we all judge on the ‘heavy hand of the police’ against a 16 yr old (and some 16yr olds these days are bigger than Desperate Dan) the least you can do is reserve judgement until you hear or see the other side - which you probably won’t until it possibly ends up in court.
  14. Loads of decent bars and pubs along North St and on along past Ashton Park. My personal choice would be here:- https://www.bristolbeerfactory.co.uk/ its a real ale brewery tap which suits me. The choice of beers and ciders in the ground is also very good these days and you can can stroll around 3 sides of the ground if you want. Saturday night in town? Spoilt for choice of venues, mostly focused around Corn St and King St and anywhere in between plus bars like the Stable Bar on the harbour side itself which gets very lively All depends where you’ll be
  15. My comments were about the changes season to season in whatever league we are playing in - not specifically to just us. Everything all around us in the league evolves and changes so nothing is a ‘given’, if it was my betting slips would be in profit...
  16. No - everything is different. Different teams Different players in those teams Different managers Different refs Different decisions Different weather Different luck. and thats exactly why it’s such a frustrating and exciting sport to watch let alone to predict. Let’s try to be different ourselves - get behind the team & stop criticising each and every comment some forum members make, if you don’t like them just hit the ignore button - try to contribute in a more constructive way?
  17. What they all fail to understand about the fruit market site is it’s a real business and if they sell up to the Fewers they’ll need a new site - ready to move into on day one, from when they move out of St Phillips. So before they even agree to move they’ve got to find a site themselves, design it, get planning permission and then build it - and only then can the Fewers start to even think about cutting turf for a new home. Timescale - about 5 years end to end?
  18. That’s the Swan at Three Mile Cross - home to London Irish, good boozer and beer. There’s a park and ride (Mereoak Park & Ride) across the lights from there which goes to the ground save taking your life in your hands negotiating that horrible junction. The Oakford Social Club almost opposite the rain station is a great place for a few beers and they also now have a Brewdog pub in town which does good food.
  19. It’s not bullshit, it’s him being honest about how he has to go about recruitment particularly in a January window. Do you want him to lie and raise all our expectations to a frenzy i.e. like it has all by itself anyway? We could ask SL to find a few more coppers from down the back of the sofa but that’ll be just short term gain and we’ll be in the dock for FFP - as per the teams we’re all debating on here and enjoying being hopefully brought to account by the ever toothless EFL.
  20. So you don’t know about BW going to Sunderland then?
  21. Just gave you a few answers to your questions to help you sleep tonight.
  22. Strange you don’t pick on the other little chap at Ashton Gate who won us the game today - Jay Dasilva? Its pathetic how people get annoyed that someone smaller than the average height is not deemed good enough to be a boss / manager in most businesses. I’m not into physcology but maybe someone who is could explain why that is. Its all about teamwork behind the team and I’m sure the average height of our backroom staff are, well, average height - just like myself.
  23. Exactly. How do they think Man Utd and Man City felt when we played them off the park - just how we did at Shrewsbury tonight- gutted! This is life, nothing is a given in football, yes it’s embarrassing but us beating Utd back then gave us all something to remember for the rest of our lives and tonight’s it’s Shrewsbury’s turn to have that dream. Its time to get together and not self destruct.
  24. When we went up to the old 1st Division, did we actually have or need an ‘identity’ or did we just try to win games? Too many people are on here are obsessed with an identity, move on - next season it’ll be a new buzz word! (and people like to play buzz word bingo when MA speaks yet when it’s on here...)
  25. I’m sure he knows you can’t take it with you...not that we want him to go anywhere at all in the foreseeable future
