I think the problem is that people who swear constantly in day-to-day life don’t realise that not everyone does the same. They go to football, swear not stop at the top of their voice and then get stroppy when people with children complain. They are happy to swear in front of their own children so assume it’s ok to do the same with other children.

Most people swear, but when kids or women (..) are present they’ll rein it in a bit.

The problem is when people behave as in the above comment - to make a point or show their annoyed at a decision etc and it becomes the norm in their everyday life, and for their household (i.e. their kids) - how can that next generation make their anger shown without doing something even more anti-social, as the swearing they’ve done all their lives is now just ‘normal’ for them?

Thats why society has unwritten boundaries which most people have the moral compass to abide by without being asked to.

I would have thought if we sell Scott we won't need to sell anyone else as we'll have had enough cash coming in (including Semenyo money) to balance the books. I think we'll make Kalas an offer, but he might still choose to go elsewhere depending on who's interested.

We won’t ‘need’ to sell but I’d the players agent stokes up some discontent and promises bigger rewards elsewhere sadly they’ll be off.
At the end of the day they are competitive sportsmen who want to have the chance to compete against the best, even if it fails they’ll be compensated with a big wedge.

Hopefully Nige and the team can persuade them to stay for another season..??

I‘m not sure Marv’s “legacy” can extend to a car park in another county…which is the issue that complicates it somewhat…

It’s for the greater good of residents in both Somerset (some of them may actually travel into Bristol to work?) and Bristol, so you’d like to think politicians could try to work together for the benefit of all ratepayers.

Any decent government would insist that the Long Ashton park and ride is fully open with hours to suit for all evening City matches.

What the hell is a park and ride for if it's not open to suit the travelling public.

Maybe that could be Marv’s final (only one actually delivered?) legacy for the city of Bristol?

Reminds me of the least reassuring thing I ever heard said by a man in a position of power. Flying into Edinburgh in 70mph crosswinds, we circled the airport twice before the pilot came on the tannoy with "Well, the two flights in front of us have pulled out of their landings, but I think we can make it in" ?

We landed, one wheel at a time, but we landed.

Reminds me of a very heavy landing I encountered at Carcassonne once, the aircraft was smacked onto the runway really hard.
On disembarking the aircraft (Ryanair…) the guy in front of us asked if we did actually land or were we shot down?

There are some on here who really have it in for James & as soon as we don’t win, can’t wait to criticise him.

He’s been instrumental in our better form but haters gotta hate.

Exactly this. People are right to criticise players for not marking the effort but to hound them relentlessly and destroy their confidence (like Fontaine) is a classic bullying tactic. Early on in the season lot of people were on Zak’s case but he’s responded by getting mentally stronger and more confident.

These people always need someone to pick on, and if it’s not a player it’s @Robbored

  7. I see Qatar are donating 10000 temporary homes from the World Cup villages to people who have lost everything in the recent earthquake.
It must be quite a logistical challenge to move that many buildings as quick as possible and no doubt at some cost.

Fair play to them for doing it.

  8. The way we’ve played this year has been a revelation compared to pre Xmas. My only concern is with such a young team and a long demanding season in a great league some of them may flag a bit towards the end? Hopefully the senior players can use their experience and nous to push as as far as we can expect this year.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bell rested onto the bench v Wigan to give him chance to catch his breath on his breakthrough season and get him in top form and energy for Man City.

The humour used back then would be seen as offensive these days. I'm not sure how it could compare.

The fact that Basil was portrayed as a complete nutter and what he said was often ' inappropriate ', and we laughed at him rather than with him, would be lost these days.

I can't see from his character what he would be allowed to poke fun at now, for fear of causing offense.

From the little I’ve read about the show being resurrected it’s going to be based on how Basil is coping in the modern World with all the technology that he doesn’t understand / make work. It may be mildly amusing but as already stated Cleese (like Billy Connolly) has had his time and his humour now is a little embarrassing these days.

  10. I worked at Filton when Bristol Cars were based there, they used to test drive / shakedown run the cars down the runway…

I’m pretty sure it was their cars that had a ‘trade plate’ which was 100 MPH. Not sure if that registration would be transferable to a normal plate but no doubt highly collectible - and pricey!

They did assemble (as far as I know they never manufactured much, maybe a few panels) their cars at a place in St George somewhere before they finally went into administration?

Quite unique cars and no doubt increasing in value due to their rarity.

Should be a good crowd just 1,000 home tickets left so 21,500 home and 2,200 away looking at just under 24k with  3/4 days left should ensure a crowd of around 24-25@, just 1500 to 2000 short of capacity amazing what a decent ticket price can do.

It’s not just the ticket price (it only applies to certain sections of the ground), it’s also about people with ‘memberships’ purchasing tickets to ensure they have the minimum of 4 games in their purchase  history to enable them to get a chance for a Man City ticket.

The £15 member tickets is a good offer but only thing I would say is, just make it £15 anywhere rather than just certain blocks. The differential between the £15 offer tickets and £34+ tickets in other blocks is ridiculous. Any members looking to take advantage of the offer at this point will find scarce availability in the offer blocks, but there are still loads of tickets available elsewhere. Very few people are going to be happy to pay more than twice as much as the offer price, so maximise the potential crowd by making it £15 everywhere.

The crowd is virtually ‘maximised’ as it is without the offer being made available to all areas (yep, I paid £31 ?). So why would the club feel the need to lose revenue - which goes towards improving almost everything in the club set up, while it’s almost a sell out?

Some people seem to expect low prices for one of the top teams in Europe and also against a ticket qualifying match for that game v a good placed Championship club this week as well.
We’re not the Poundland team in Bristol, it’s the other lot…?

If you like old fashioned pubs the Seven Stars near Left Handed Giant is worth a visit.

Craft beer wise Sidney and Eden is supposed to be good.

If you’re in that area (close to Left Handed Giant), the Mecca of real ale pubs is The Cornubia. Not easy to spot squeezed in amongst the new buildings but another ?fantastic pub. It used to be the ‘tap’ room for Courages when it was brewing on the site that is now LHG.
The Kings Arms around the corner is another unique type of pub with its seating arrangement.
