I remember as a very young child in the late 1970s going to see Santa in Fairfax House (that massive dept store where the Galleries is now).

You’re lucky to have found your way out of that labyrinth - there’s rumoured to be people who were still lost in there when it was demolished and never even knew the war was over!

The lifts were also strange as I recall, some sort of dumb waiter type lift for humans?

No, some of them aren't and so I would have expected a lot more to have been vaccinated and particularly for clubs to make sure they are vaccinated if they are a bit thick. These are valuable assets after all. So the question is why?

Footballers usually have a very high belief in themselves and their abilities so some will always have a huge ego and simply  don’t like being told what to do, some (allegedly) don’t adhere to the managers tactics either when told….

Dispite what many media outlets want us to believe I do not believe for one second mad raves or parties occurred at Downing St, in fact in reality there was probably no difference to what occurred there than anywhere else last xmas.

About time this point was made.

The picture of Boris in the Zoom quiz could be any office quiz after hours.
Getting a pass into No 10 isn’t  like a pub quiz where people just call in and decide to throw a fiver in to join! Everyone in that building had a right to be there - and security cleared for sure, so they had been mixing all day on Government matters anyway, no more breaking rules than chatting in the staff kitchen.
The guy who had tinsel around his neck? Could easily have finished work a bit earlier, had a drink and then got called back in to join Boris in thanking staff for their work etc?

Obviously I’ve no hard evidence to support any of the above but no matter how much we all agree Boris is a twonk, all we’ve seen is pure conjecture.

……more funds to strengthen the team are not going to be forthcoming.

Maybe you could try Googling Financial Fair Play rules as applicable to the Championship, scrutinise our accounts at Companies House - then understand why funds CAN’T be forthcoming

  5. I’ve got a chameleon called George who’s got some strange habits. Sometimes he stays a while other times he disappears and it all makes him quite frantic.

To help him I’ve given him some of the new cannabis oil stuff.

    He’s now a…

? calmer chameleon ? he comes and goes ?

  6. The strange thing about Strictly is I suspect most of the people who watch it wouldn’t know if the dancers performed a routine incorrectly or put a foot out of place unless they actually fell over!

Lots of people just watch it for the ‘glamour’, sparkly costumes, sexy participants (OK not all are ‘sexy’) and the great music.
It has been going since 2004 but each year it has different performers - just like the various football teams and leagues we’ve all watched - for ever.

It’s a bit like so many on here who watch our team week in and week out and only really take into account the ball hitting the back of the net.
Only the Statto’s and some of the more knowledgeable contributors concern themselves with the tiny details of the whole game, as long as people enjoy what they see that’s what counts for them.

Personally I can’t take to watching Strictly regularly, as someone once pointed out to me the incessant clapping along to the music reminds them of listening to a load of sea lions at the zoo ‘clapping’ with their flippers ?, and I can’t get that image out of my head when I do actually watch it! Maybe I’ll look for the mute button a bit more often

The dance routine performed by Rose Ayling-Ellis I did happen to catch and yes, that was jaw dropping LH amazing.

  7. So many people start demanding new coaches and players but somehow have managed to forget the elephant in the room - FFP!

To turn the club around to anywhere near where we’d like to be takes not just money but time - and yes we have waited ages but the reality is it can’t be done by chucking loads of money at it in one go or it’ll be a points deduction like what’s been applied to other clubs which have tried that approach - and lost in every department.

Why are we not supporting clean air agenda. And it's simple if you wanna drive drive electric

I trust you all be on the climate demo tommorrow. College green 12.00 pm

Think I’ll wait a while until the cars that run on ‘green’ hydrogen are available - that’s the one where all the real big smart money is going on.

in the meantime I’ll keep playing the lottery to get a chance to buy something newer ?

John Lennon was rubbish at Cluedo.

It was the inventor of the dishwasher’s funeral yesterday.

The coffin was lowered into the ground, only to be taken out by his wife and put back in properly.

There hasn't that I've seen, I don't think the loop has any baring on the Portishead Branch situation. It's more about it actually getting funding possibly.  Certainly the SB line is getting busier by the year, they will have to consider bringing back the double tracking before long.

I’ve used the SB line a lot recently to get to areas I wish to cycle from.

There are so many bikes that try to get on the train it’s carnage!
The majority of passengers get off at Clifton Down station - as it’s such a short journey from BTM (even if you do the entire route to SB it’s only 39 mins) they should introduce at least one carriage in the same style as a Tube train.
It won’t hurt to stand up for the short time the journey takes - and so much more space would be available for cycles ??.

This is Bristol City Council for you, major disruption for traffic after a city game,

As much as we like to slag off the Council for traffic congestion I think this was more to do with the tide times than them.

Even taking that into account there must be a reasonable window of opportunity for craft to get through the lock gates in enough time to let the crowd / traffic disperse for 30mins after the game?

The harbour master (who’s already had some grief this week from a visiting skipper) must also be answerable for not being aware of a big crowd in the immediate vicinity of the harbour area and try to avoid the conflict, or maybe he’s a Gashead!

  12. I’d spend a third, save a third and give a third away -those getting money from me would have to give a third of that money away (good causes or family etc)

I’d also arrange for free Clark’s pies for all home supporters for the entire season ?!

  13. The Rising Sun at Pensford does great food, their menu is different from so the all too predictable ones found in many pubs these days.
I’ve not tried the Sunday lunch yet (book 3 weeks in advance) but I’ve heard it’s very good indeed.
As an added bonus they have a very good, and well kept range of beers.

The pub garden is huge - much bigger than the tiny, nightmare for space car park, it looks over the river and across to the viaduct (why can’t you walk over it??)

  14. The Victoria in Chock Lane, Westbury in Trym, was always a good boozer for a couple of pints most lunchtimes whilst ‘working’ at BAe on the F1-11’s during the 80’s.
Good to see it’s still open, I think I might just pop over there one day soon to check it out ??

Apologies if already mentioned, but the Cornubia is a great boozer

sadly not been for a few years so hope all is still well there

It is indeed still there - and flourishing. Lots of extra outside seating (Covid +) and planting around to green it up in what is a concrete jungle.
Many a Friday night back in the 90’s myself and two cycling friends were the only ones in there, like to think we got it through its darkest days ?
