Blimey. I was asked directly how we can make it affordable for those who need financial support to enable them attend. It was just a suggestion.

Not everyone is on benefits by choice. It seems you are pandering to the Daily Mail trope that anyone on benefits is lazy and spend it all on booze and fags. Many are disabled and unable to work. Many have learning difficulties. Some have had to give up work to become a carer. Others have suffered mental trauma. Are you saying we should do NOTHING to make football more accessible to such people?

I have already argued on this thread against OAP discount as an outdated notion based on wealth distribution across the UK. There are no easy answers, but I was simply arguing for a way to make football accessible to as many people as possible, based on need rather than crude age-based discount. You might not like the suggestion, but I stand by that as well intentioned, and your attack is completely disproportionate and unnecessary.

    Great Post

The reason I've not been to AG in 6 years is the removal (and shameful way they tried to remove it) of lower rates for disabled fans. I appreciate that disability is a very broad brush, and many who qualify for that rate choose to not take it, especially if they are still able to work. However if you are unable to work, and rely on the state or family, you should get a reduced rate.

If you asked everyone at AG to describe football in one word, I'm sure the word 'family' would feature highly. It is that idea of family, and belonging, which means we should make AG as inclusive as possible, not an exclusive club for Jacks.

  2. When the club went for our disabled fans 5 years ago, I handed my ST back and have not been to AG since. The club have treated fans very poorly for a long time. Sadly its taken bad football to make people angry. Don't renew, don't go.

Anyone received their tickets in the post?

the person who got me one hasn’t received it yet and this is the last day I can pick it up from him before Wednesday.

if it has to be collected on Wednesday anyone know what they’ll be like about picking up a ticket in someone else’s name?

We’re pleased to say that your Nottingham Forest v Bristol City tickets will be available to collect from the Ticket Office at tonight’s Bristol City v Leeds United fixture.

The Ticket Office will be open from 17:00-20:15 tonight. Please use the Ticket Collections queue, which will be on the left-hand side as you approach the Ticket Office. We strongly urge you to arrive as early as possible to collect your tickets at the Leeds United match.

If you aren’t attending the match against Leeds, you can also collect your tickets at the following times:

For those that are unable to collect from Ashton Gate at any of the above times, you will be able to collect at Nottingham Forest’s ground at the Away Ticket Office which is located at the corner of the Brian Clough and Bridgford Stands, approximately an hour before kick-off.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you at Ashton Gate for tonight’s sold out match!

  4. I've got a lot of issues with the club, and for that reason have been an away fan only for almost 6 years now. However something the club has got right recently is the pathway from the academy to the first team. I'd rather watch local players like Max, who may not be world beaters, than a team of Mercenaries.

No room behind the SS unless you start bulldozing and tidying up the ayteo in unlikely to get your much more capacity unless you start bulldozing.

i don’t think there is too much in the footprint between the lansdown and the dolman to be honest - so a mirror image stand would look pretty good!

my ultimate dream would be to bulldoze behind the ayteo and build round the same size from the lansdown making a “park end” pedestrianise the road and just have a stand that feeds out onto the park, could have all your corporate stuff up the top - large amounts of glass looking back across the park and to the bridge

I'd always like the idea of encorperating the houses into the stand, with the front doors becoming turnstiles.

  6. Always balance the books. To not do so is asking to be the next Reading.

If you can give yourself the reputation of good football, and a proven record of moving players to the top flight, you will find good FL players will be more likely to join us as we're a good bet for their future.

We won't get their best, but they'll give us better than most championship sides.

I'm somewhat with Sweeney's Penalties on this one. Okay, several of you give examples of countries that play in colours not on their flag. However, the home nations, England excepted, all play in the colour that is predominant on their flag, Ireland also being the case.

England play in the colours of The Union Jack, not the flag of St. George. England are also the only nation that plays the anthem of Great Britain and not an anthem for England. It rather smacks of England promoting being British with their kit and anthem while the other countries that are part of Britain project their own national identities in both the colours of their kit and their anthem.

N.Ireland play in green without any green on their flag

  8. I adored Beckham as a kid. I even had the duvet set. Believed him to be the best player in the world. Now that was never true, but I think the soap opera that he created has slightly fogged our memories of him as a player in both directions. Some above posts talk about how overrated he was, and others how underrated he was.

For me, you have to listen to those he played with, and against. Almost everyone points out how good he was to play with, how hard he trained, how professional he was, and what a good leader he was.

For me, a deserved England great

  9. Personally I'd rather the club was financially stable, and not reliant on any outside investment. The steps made recently of bringing through academy players is great to see. Of course I'd like to see us go up, but we cannot mortgage the club to achieve that.

    • Play attacking football
    • Bring through academy players
    • Harvest a good club atmosphere
    • Might go down, might go up

It's a while since we've played up there, can anyone localish say what's there between station and ground?

Not a drinker, but the Old Horse on London Road is good pub. Loads of local memorabilia, often a good atmosphere, and some good beers on tap.

Do a good quiz on a Tuesday too...

“The loyal fans don’t bother nowadays”.

    Interesting definition of “loyal”.

Don’t agree either - loads of us here would describe ourselves as loyal, and we still go to games. Countless fans at Ashton Gate will have been going for their whole lives.

I think loyal is the wrong word, but certainly the club has lost fans, like myself, over the last 5-10 years who no longer feel part of the club. I made my own decision to stop when they hiked the disabled fans and children's prices in 2018. It is callous and business orientated decisions like that which have made many feel not welcome, or less attached.  My loyalty will always be to my fellow fan as I believe every club is the members of that club. My loyalty is not to SL, or to Bristol City Holdings Ltd, or to the players, but to anyone who calls themselves a Bristol City supporter.

Sadly I feel the club, and English Football as a whole, have moved the overton window so much now, that ticket prices have gone up, therefore fan entitlement goes up, player wages go up and so on and so on. That has ruined atmospheres which in turn puts more people off.

Now attendances have gone up over the last 10 years too, so clearly the club has done well in attracting new fans. But AG is not a place where people who want to create and atmosphere and those who simply wish to watch are catered for equally. Until those who run the club change their mentality towards the atmosphere, nothing will change. However, fans can make them change, if the voices are loud enough.

  12. Some of the first images of the current AG had the entire lower Dolman and South Stand designated for safe standing. This was a promise to Bristol Rugby fans to replicate the experience of the side terrace and thatchers end at the mem.

Putting the barriers we have in S82 across the lower Dolman and SS would help with atmosphere, and actualise a promise made to Bristol Rugby fans.

  13. Did Inter in December 2016 so more or less the same. Holidays are not that popular to Milan in early December before the Christmas rush, so I waited until the fixtures were confirmed before booking anything, as it wasn't too expensive.

I made the mistake of going in the ultras section. Most Italian fans are a bit right wing and it was uncomfortable, so I'd sit at the side of the pitch.

Milan is cold in December, and when I was there, there was a lot of fog, which made it feel much colder, so wrap up warm.

The San Siro is iconic and hauntingly beautiful, and is one of my favourite places to watch football. Really recommend it.

Security is a bit more rigorous and don't forget your passport or they will not let you in.
