  1. Did he have cash to spend - perhaps not Wrexham levels but more than the competition? Regardless, 100+ points always impressive.
  2. Not sure that’s a strong reason. It is a step up even if not huge and managers like making step ups.
  3. Sadly there is a whiff of this The Peter principle is a concept in management developed by Laurence J. Peter which observes that people in a hierarchy tend to rise to "a level of respective incompetence": employees are promoted based on their success in previous jobs until they reach a level at which they are no longer competent, as skills in one job do not necessarily translate to another.
  4. Maybe. But it certainly appears slightly I’ll judged given the current mood music.
  5. Bodyguard / restraining order? (sure he’s a nice chap really)
  6. Aren’t they just. There is a huge lack of imagination in football really. NP shouldn’t have gone but as he has I’d prefer someone a bit more left field (from abroad?) to see if it can give us an edge, especially given the squad is already quite stable. Trouble is you wouldn’t trust the ownership to have the knowledge to select correctly. Wonder if Benny fancies another stab
  7. Overall SL’s appointment record (and I’m referring to that not his working relationship with managers) is meh at best but…. - Johnson Snr - Cotts. Raise your hand if you were pleased when we appointed him. I certainly wasn’t.
  8. Quite. There will only be a limited number (who think they will imminently have better offers) who wound say no. It always has been and always will be a market where there are numerous candidates for a small number of positions, regardless of owners. Or else Reading, for example, wouldn’t have a manager thus season!
  9. Just checked in - 3 pages but Rowett isn’t our manager yet? Have I missed somint?
  10. Quite possible although I guess if ultra pressing is the issue these are just 2 results from the same problem
  11. Didn’t we have this debate under LJ and it was given as a reason why we always tailed off as the season went on?
  12. Whilst I don’t agree with all of this, maybe even most of it, I do think it’s worth remembering there is often a silent minority / majority in these threads that don’t post, who may not agree.
  13. In a world where the word legend is hugely overused…… RIP
  14. As the mighty Tigers Gloucester City are my other side, Cheltenham’s predicament pains me greatly.
  15. Hmm think that’s guesswork tbh. He just made a mistake as all players do, including him in other games if not perhaps of that size. He knew he would likely be leaving well before that game.
  16. So turns out this practicing lark is quite important
  17. Plymouth friend of mine was scathing about them booing at half time - entitled ***** was one phrase used. Quite right too!
  18. Not Budleigh - pebbles would be agony
  19. I’m a Gloucester fan and how Santi didn’t see red is beyond me. There’s a duty of care to the player being tackled and turning your back on them fails that IMO. Mind you there’s a lot of red tinted eyes on the GR forum….
  20. Yep just back from mine which I had to run today. 2-1 defeat in Satan’s sauna weather ?. Still at least one of the team has been schooled at Ashton Gate?
  21. From the Athletic: This summer, relegated clubs Southampton, Leicester City and Leeds United have cashed in and sold a combined 15 players for almost £300million — compared to around £144million of sales made by the other 21 teams in the division. In 2022, Burnley, Watford and Norwich Citymade around £119million combined from sales Article is Basically saying that there is a premium selling price on players who have played in the Prem. So Lavia, say, goes for £58m while Scott goes for £25m. Now perhaps that’s not the best comparison but the point is that in addition to parachute payments the clubs coming down also make a tonne of cash selling on players, even allowing for buying replacements. Stating the obvious? Maybe. But just another factor showing how difficult the financial competition is to get out of this league (in general before anybody says Luton ?)
