  1. Yes - Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you & your loved ones & all fellow Reds out there.

As others have said, this Forum enables those that have moved away to keep up to date with all things City & I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve laughed out loud at some of the comments here - there really are some quick witted people on here - it’s great.

Have fun & stay safe & well everyone 👍

  2. I was working in Exeter that weekend and a group of us watched it in a pub that was absolutely rammed. People were stood on chairs and tables to see the screens.

When the game finished, the place just drained and the place looked like a bomb had hit it, broken furniture & glass everywhere - bet the landlord was really pleased they’d had the game on ?‍♂️

  3. Condolences to you & your family on your loss but I have to say what a wonderful & touching tribute. I hope it has brought you some sort of comfort to write it.

Reading it has brought back memories of my first game with my Dad & the many times we went together after that - as others have said it’s a ‘rites of passage’ tradition that continues on & on and creates similar memories for others.

I hope those new memories for other people are as poignant & heartfelt as yours.

  4. I look forward to seeing the new kits but I’m not too bothered either way about what they look like too much - it still says ‘Bristol City’ on the badge so that’ll do for me.

Having said that, I like the all red ones we have had in the past & seeing the ‘Arsenal’ etc comments on here - would people think slightly differently if the shorts were red on this occasion?

I can’t recall another team having that kind of combo before..?

Thanks for sharing. I was lucky enough to be there - Block F of the Dolman at that time.

Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere on this thread or another one, but I can remember back in ‘82 wondering who I was going to follow if City weren’t around ?.

I didn’t (and still don’t) know if it would have been possible for City to have ‘started again’ at that time like one of the ‘phoenix’ clubs of today.

What I will say is that those 8 people did something that meant so much to so many people and that would have affected their lives at the time - of course there have been ups & downs since but at least we’ve been able to experience those - I’m truly grateful for what they did and it mustn’t be forgotten.

In the early 70's there was a fleet of 19 coaches carrying fans from Middlesbrough. The Police stopped them routinely and found many of the occupants were carrying axes etc. As a result the entire fleet was turned round. They then stopped at Coventry and ran riot in their city centre before making their way to Highfield Road.

After all these years, did those axe carriers single out this game or was it routine for them back then?

In the same vein (note that I could be wrong about this as it was late 80’s or early 90’s & my memory isn’t what it used to be) but when I used to play local league level on a Saturday afternoon, I seem to remember playing in Ashton Park when City were at home to Middlesbrough (I think). During the game fans from both City & Boro basically stormed the pitch as they were battling.

Both teams in the game I was playing in ended up in the 2 goals while all this was going on & we lost most of the balls for our game too - it was a bit scary at the time but funny looking back at it now ?

23 points lost from winning positions. If we’d claimed them all, we’d be a point behind Fulham in second! ?

If’s, and’s & maybe’s of course but holding on to just under half of those, we’d be in the play off positions, right?

  8. Been said many times elsewhere but tightening up a bit at the back would see us much better off than we are in terms of points & therefore league position. Not to mention us fans possibly feeling better too ?

It’s a cliche I know but I always go back to the saying that strikers win games and defenders win trophies.

  9. Yes, Happy Birthday OTIB.

As others have said, I too am on here several times a day - I find it entertaining, informative and funny (I often laugh out loud at some of the posts) and for me that combination is pretty much perfect and for just £5/year is excellent value. The Matchday threads alone that have been started by various people over the years that keep ‘exiled’ people like me hitting the refresh button constantly is worth that on its own.

Massive thanks from me to all those involved in the administration and operation of the Forum - and of course to all the posters that keep the content & comments coming. Please let’s keep it up & here’s to the next 25 years ?

  10. I used to love Shoot too, as others have said the League Ladders were a clever idea and was exciting collecting them over a few weeks.

There was another magazine out around the same time that claimed to use a computer to calculate results between regional collections of teams that were made up of players from the regions  picked by editors/writers of the magazine - example, South West, London, Midlands etc. - anyone remember what that was called?

  11. Very underrated player in my opinion.

Class act in that Liverpool midfield.

I seem to recall a goal that he scored against us at AG in the old Div 1. Memories fade I know but I believe he strode forward from midfield, took a pass in his stride, sat our keeper down (John Shaw?) and simply walked around him and placed it in the net.

    It looked effortless.

  12. Alongside the couple of ‘classics’ in this thread that I was lucky enough to be there (Coventry & Rovers in the Cup), one that sticks out in my mind was a cup-tie at Notts County. We were in Div 4, they were in Div 1 & we were packed into the corner of the ground (with a floodlight pylon in with us I think) - we went ahead (think it was Alan Crawford that scored), then we went 2-1 down. Tom Ritchie scored an equaliser but I didn’t see it - as the chance fell to him someone said “put it in Tom” and then we all fell forward and everyone went mental. Really enjoyed that one..!

  13. Hmm, my view is that he’s a good player; stating the obvious, you don’t get to international level if you’re not.

However it seems he struggled to settle here and suffered some injuries (not alone there) so we only saw flashes of his ability.

I have a degree of respect for him for saying that he wants to move away - it’s a clear position for the club and gives us a chance to get player(s) in that will contribute more in what’s left of the transfer window (assuming he moves on fairly quickly of course).
