  1. Ref did in fairness. Watching it, a Villa player charges at him thinking he has sent him off. The ref waves that it is not a sending off and keeps indicating it’s a first yellow card, which is why I first thought he had revoked it. Keeper looked like he thought he was going as well. Well played the ref I guess, given it must be used very rarely. The logic is this it seems… “Kicks from the penalty mark are taken after the match has ended”. Laws. Therefore, according to the rules, the player cannot be sent off because he has not received more than one yellow card during the same match, as the match in which they got the first booking has finished.
  2. Not seen this before. Ref books Villa goalie in middle of penalty shoot out for dicking about. Then seems to realise it’s a second yellow and it is reversed! Not even sure what happens if it had been red. edit: every day is a learning day. Looks like it was a second yellow, but yellow cards reset before the shoot out. Who knew. If a goalie does get a red here, then an outfield player on the pitch has to go in goal.
  3. Just as a rider on this one, Huddersfield manager claiming they got a letter from PGMOL that the decision was wrong. Surprised tbh as it looks one of those 50/50s
  4. Thinking in hindsight it but might have been better to just let the buggers go to the super league and have been done with it.
  5. Just to focus for a second on the other bit of news in this. The FA Cup final will be the week before the final Premiership round of ties. There seems no need for this at all other than a bit of ego ‘we are the finish of the season, not you’. Charity Shieid starts the domestic season, FA Cup finishes it. No need for change at all.
  6. Agree about the comment it will cost clubs the ‘money spinner’ replay. Not so sure it will lead to more bigger teams going through. It’s not uncommon for smaller clubs to get a replay they lose. If instead of that it’s a more evenly balanced penalty shoot out I would expect more bigger teams to go out. Need to hold them once, not twice?
  7. …and told him he needed less time on the grass…
  8. “Bloody get it forward and get in the top quartile for successful forward passes against peer group comparison for Christ sake!”
  9. The real question, is does Kane need to move if he wants to see titles…
  10. Totally agree in the sense I would too, and as a Huddersfield fan given league position and the timing of it, I would be fuming. It is ball to hand, and then it’s a debate about is the arm in an unnatural position, which is very marginal. Having said all that, I would be also fuming at the current laws which seem a mess, are too harsh in my view, and come down to very fine line subjective interpretation. It’s a call that is most likely not overturned by VAR whatever way the ref calls it as a clear and obvious error. Unlucky to get given and equally unlucky if not given on us, as it seems a bit of a coin toss on these kind of ones at the moment.
  11. Interesting analysis. A good mix over the 12 games of teams sprinkled throughout the league. As you say, dangerous to rely on xG to say ‘this is what the result of any one game should have been’, but it does provide an indicator over a decent period. Although some are marginal, is interesting that in only 3 out of 12 do we have a positive xG. Also it does confirm a nagging doubt in the back of my mind when our current very good position in the recent form table gets highlighted that it is not really matching what I am seeing in the round. It’s not that we are bad recently as such, but that we are not either in a really purple patch of form where we are looking like we are great. Reminds me of those runs we would get under LJ were results were good for half a dozen games or so, but the evidence of my own eyes was that we were getting the rub of the green a little, and that sooner or later we would revert to our mean, which generally we did.
  12. Always felt this was likely today. The issue is not so much we got beat by a team that wanted it more, it’s that we are making a habit of losing these types of matches 0-1 and looking awful doing it. Ho hum. Deserved by them… …or maybe a late penalty,…
  13. Kind of what many of us half expected really. Still disappointing we could not push on with the way we played.
  14. Annoying really, cannot begrudge them it, we never really got going.
  15. Huddersfield finishing pretty strongly and carving out some chances now. edit, 0-1
  16. Bleh. Been better this half, in the sense we are getting closer to average. We are creating more, in the sense we have managed a few shots. Still poor overall, but still there to be won…or lost.
  17. We are a goal away from 11th! Don’t anyone dare say there is nothing on this game…
  18. Clean sheet with a scratch back line. All I have got! Dull as ditchwater.
  19. Back to the performances of a couple of months back. Other side better without creating that much, excuse of a rather make shift back line has some weight, but we are non existent as an attacking entity, and it’s bloody dull.
  20. Looks a bit like us going through the motions a bit against a team more up for it. Boro one up at Ipswich..
