  1. The CAMRA (campaign for real ale) web site whatpub.com gives full details of all pubs/bars in the UK (including maps), just query Bristol, it also gives details of the beers served etc
  2. The Sporting Quarter project and the housebuilding are separate from the football club, SL does expect to make a profit on those whereas the football club is always a loss maker and if he does get some money out (eg dividends) it's far less than he's putting in through share issues etc.. I doubt if any owner of a Championship club is making any money, they do it for fun and publicity in the main (I agree that this does not apply to SL now).
  3. SL doesn't see a penny of the money paid in by supporters, it all goes towards the players wages
  4. Everybody keen on spending someone else's money, should be politicians!
  5. I like the fact he always tries to pass the ball forward, perhaps that's why his pass completion rate isn't that special. Also our poor run of results happened while he was injured, we haven't lost a game when he's started. He shouldn't be judged on yesterday where the whole team was out of balance due to our makeshift defence lacking a specialist CB.
  6. Scotty made 42 league appearances and Semenyo 23 so a significant number, your stat may be correct but gives a biased opinion on the effect those players had on the team
  7. If we manage to stay in the top half this will be our best season since LJ left, so not quite so dismal as some making out, and that's after we sold our two best players from last season.
  8. Huddersfield fans not too confident: Our only hope is that Bristol City are on the beach. Problem is that Town are so accommodating that even if they are on beach, we'd be rubbing sun cream on their backs and bringing them pina coladas.
  9. We pay £35 a month for Now TV which gives access to all the Sky Sport channels (including red button games) via a Firestick. For the odd game it's £11.99 for a day pass, both options don't involve any contract so it's a potential alternative to Robins TV if that's not available without any financial commitment.
  10. It seems that for once the international break has done us some good! It will be interesting to see how we have progressed after a proper pre-season.
  11. People saying it was just Blackburn being poor, it's only a couple of weeks or so since they won 5-1 at Sunderland. We got goals at key moments, it could have gone either way before the first goal.
  12. Dickie Rooks was a good old-fashioned centre half, strong in the air and would clear it no-nonsense style. In this video against Charlton he scored a rare goal:
  13. It's easy to look back on promotion seasons as some of our best, but we were in League One then where promotion is a lot easier to achieve than in the Championship. Now we lose more games but we're playing at a higher level, which is really an improvement.
  14. In football there's always uncertainty in the medium term!
  15. Dave Burnside was with us as a youth player and was signed by Alan Dicks in 71/72 season but only made one appearance. Wasn't he famous for his ball juggling skills? Seem to remember he gave a pre match exhibition of his skills at AG on one occasion?
  16. I think when the season's over and we can reflect it will be clear that the squad was not as good as last season, very difficult to replace the likes of Scott and Semenyo effectively, so if we end up with more than the 59 points we got then it will be a reasonable result.
  17. Easily explained, my wife is ill so we couldn't go
  18. I think Nige's health was an issue in so much as he wasn't feeling great and probably said some things he would have normally kept to himself when he was ok, and as a result his relationship with the owners was broken.
  19. I remember when we were at our lowest ebb in Div 4 we had a hard core of 4000 fans who would turn up for home league games no matter what. It puts into perspective our current 'problems'.
  20. I wonder if he'll risk starting Twine or just give him 30 minutes in the second half?
  21. Maybe I'm a bit different to most on here but I've seen enough positive changes since Manning took over to be optimistic about next season. Although the ppg are roughly the same as before there have been some noticeable changes: . we look more solid defensively . we can put runs of wins together . we are able to beat sides near the top of the league when at our best (which we couldn't before) On the negative side, the main issue is we're not scoring enough goals, but this could potentially be addressed in the summer with two or three additions to the squad. I don't expect the owners to throw money at Manning but if as expected Conway goes for say £6m I would expect all of that plus maybe a bit more (say £2m) to get the players we require. I can see why he wanted Twine, in the one game he played he was always looking to play the ball forward and it will be interesting to see if our form picks up once he gets a run of games. We also need a forward player who can hold the ball up, eg a younger version of Chris Martin. Regarding Tinnion I always enjoyed watching him as a player and he's also done a great job with the Academy. He's found his new role more challenging but he's always done his best for the club so doesn't deserve the abuse he's been getting from some of the playground bullies on here. He's not so good on the media side so could do with some training in that aspect perhaps but he's fairly new to the job just like Manning so they both deserve more time before people label them as a failure or a success.
  22. That's fair enough but if we make a step improvement next season will you give him credit for his role in appointing Manning? People are judging far too early.
  23. I don't know how we won that game, WBA hit the woodwork so many times. It was after that I believed it must be our season for promotion, and so it proved.
  24. Home games were pretty dire before Manning arrived, the only decent home win under Pearson was against Plymouth. The only other home game we won was against Coventry and that was extremely fortunate. We lost to Birmingham, Norwich, Stoke and Ipswich. Under Manning we've won 5 home games in the league, so I can't see how things have got much worse?
