My mates lived in Poble Sec between Las Ramblas and Montjuic for years. It's a fantastic city away from the most touristy parts, which while stunning, get unbearably hectic. Can Paixano aka La Xampanyeria for insanely resonably priced and delicious cava- but you must buy tapas while swilling it. Sitges is lovely. Steer clear of Las Ramblas altogether, it's hideous. Have a blast!
