Ultimately football fans are fickle. If the new guy improves us then it will be Nige who for a lot of people

Not in my view. It'll be 'Pearson laid the foundations, and should have got the chance to see it out'. Especially when you consider what he's done to get us in the position we are now.

  2. My dad took me to my first game in 2001. I was 4 years old. I've had a season ticket for every season since. I won't be going anymore until the Lansdowns are gone, which utterly breaks my heart. But, I feel that strongly about this 'ownership'. This is no longer Bristol City FC. This is Steve Lansdown FC. He said in that interview in the summer, 'this is my club and I'll do what I want'. Well. Bristol City will be around a lot longer than you Steve, and you certainly won't be getting a single penny further off of me.

I'll put my head above the parapet here but I'm not buying into we're getting hammered today. Not a chance.

MJ would be a big loss, if he is injured. But, I have every confidence in TGH and Knight to step up. On watching TGH so far, I think he could play the quarterback role that MJ plays. It's just about Andi and Knight making the angles for him. But, if that is to be the midfield 3, what I would say is that they'll certainly cover a lot of ground and I fully expect us to press Diff in the way we did to Ippy in the week. Cardiff are nowhere near the levels of Ipswich either.

Also believe if Pep got us to the same state it would be the same viewpoint. Regardless of how we were playing.

And 66 was lightyears ago in comparison. Southgate is the only coach since Sir Alf to get us anywhere near those levels. And actually, if you look at tournament wins, guess who has the most of all time?

We'll never know with regards to someone like Pep. But, what I'm saying is, I get the the feeling because of Southgate's perceived lack of pedigree, the knives are quick to come out when he gets things wrong. If he had the creditably of someone like Pep, I honestly think there would be a greater level of tolerance and acceptance there that he is the right man for the job.

What I’ve never quite understood about Southgate outers, is what was expected? Do people really think we should’ve won the Euros and WC back to back?

We took it as far as was literally possible without winning it in 2021, and the World Cup last year Kane scores that penalty against France and who knows..

But the only alternative I can think of for those who don’t want him in charge or think he is ‘ruining our chances’, is that we really should’ve won two major tournaments in a row after we’ve gone 56 without winning one. And we should score 5 or 6 goals in every game or something.

Amen. Just because he's Gareth from Watford and he's got a mediocre club management record, oh and he missed a penalty 25 years ago. He gets all the stick and absolutely no credit whatsoever. If Pep Guardiola got us to a Semi Final, a Final and another Quarter Final he'd be heralded as an England managerial legend.

I will never quite get why the media and social media are always on his back. People seem to forget that Iceland and Euro 2008 weren't so long ago.

Or... if everything you've detailed was part fo the plan, Lansdown should be able now to acknowledge as much and to publicly give Pearson his share of the credit for an epic overhaul of the accounts.

The irony of our owner doing that. Bearing in mind this is someone who has made his fortune in the investments and financial industry. The proof is in the pudding. Our accounts don't lie. Major losses during Ashton's and Johnson's Tenure with a sky high wage budget. Our net costs have dropped significantly since then, plus increased revenue through the sales of Scott/Semenyo. With regards to our forthcoming accounts, Fevs and Mr P have run the numbers for them. They'll be pretty much in the ballpark I expect with their projections.

He'll never come out and say 'Thanks Nige for digging us out a massive hole, oh by the way, which I got us into in the first place by having my arms pulled by LJ and MA'. But, it doesn't take a genius mathematician to see that's effectively what is going on/has gone on.

  7. I can absolutely 100% see Lansdown not extending NPs contract at end of the season. He will use our inevitable mid table finish as the reasoning for this. In reality, NP has saved us around 25 million on the wages over the past 3 seasons and brought in around 35 million in transfer fees. He's had barely a fraction of this to spend. To say his hands have been tied, I think is honestly an understatement.

NP is not perfect don't get me wrong. But to bring in the best part of £60 million, and not be allowed to reinvest I think is a complete joke. All this whilst still keeping us competitive within this division and bringing through the academy! Lansdown needs to seriously consider his position. He's not backing the manager in the slightest.

  8. Thought he was one of our best players on Saturday and one of our best players last night. The ball over the top to him between the centre half and the RB is always on, he's always giving us an outlet making those runs in the channel. Getting in those positions in the first place and splitting the defenders with those runs is the hardest thing. His finishing and end product will come.

  9. Think I've seen suggested on here before, to Frankie Valli - Oh what a night

    Oh what a guy

    Nigel Pearson Born in 63

Drinks the cider just like you and me

    Nigel Pearson what a guy

Whether you can get the bloke with the megaphone to bellow that out, remains to be seen.....

We need someone to score some goals.

The goals have dried up recently, yes, I agree. I think in the right system Ogbene would score goals. It's just a case of whether he would fit into our system, whatever that may be. My gut feeling is that NP will move to a back 4. But as far as scoring goals is concerned, I guess the counter argument is in my opinion us tightening up at the other end of pitch is more critical. 3 of the top 6 have scored the same or fewer goals than us at current. They're just far more organised and ship fewer goals than us!

  11. Martin is a good player. The issue is the team's mentality when they see him coming on to the pitch. They instantly think 'we can now go long'. The style instantly changes and in my view doesn't actually suit him that well. CM is best when the ball is played into his chest and into his feet. He's at his best when he's got people running beyond him, who he can play those cute balls around the corner into (WSM last season). You can't blame Martin for our back line suddenly starting to kick it long. Their mentality changes in my view. They don't do that when we have either of the other 4 on the field.

  12. It's quite possible I come across a more diplomatic bunch of Sunderland fans! I do agree with most of the points raised. Especially the continuation of last season's inability to manage a lead. The defensive frailties are still there, and they need to be addressed, and quickly. We can't be shipping 5 goals in two games against a promotion side and a team that finished below us last season!

  13. I spoke to some Mackems after the game and they genuinely couldn't believe they got 3 points from that game. Maybe 1 would have been fair, but who knows, on another day, we could have got all 3! Wishful thinking from our side perhaps! I said to them, we'll be seeing you in February in a good friendly manner. But, again I genuinely feel as if we deserved more out of that game, than we got. This might be the 10 pints talking, possibly, but when I sit down and think about it (clearing my young head as much as possible), we're only 2 games in, so talk of Pearson going upstairs is really knee jerk, in my view. Let's keep the faith for now, and see what happens over the next month or so. Sunderland definitely ain't going down, neither are us in my view. But something tells me there's a good chance we'll finish above them, and possibly Hull for that matter, if we can just get thing's to click. How many times under Lee did we find ourselves saying, how did we win that?

Nigel Pearson has kept us in this division on a budget far less than his pedocessor, and in tough times as well. We owe him at least the first 10 games minimum, possibly more! Open to opposing views ?

  14. I remember the Blades fans last season had a chant for Gibbs-White. Think it was to the tune of Voulez Vous. Maybe could do the same for Mark Sykes?

    Ohhhhh Mark Sykessss

Mark Sykes running down the wing

Mark Sykes makes the city sing

Mark Sykes is taking us to the premier league

Watching him in pre season. I think he could be a really good player for us. I'll log off now!

I would say £10 for safe parking assuming there is more than one in the car to split the cost is a decent price?

There's 4 of us, so £2.50 each shouldn't break the bank too much!
