I'll be honest in that I'm not liking anything around our club at the moment, it's a circus ran by clowns, backstabbers and liars

    But ......

Yeboah was nowhere near the level of player we need at this present time (nor is Dire) but that's another argument!

He is just 17 years old, he was used by Nige as "needs must" during that horrific injury crisis, he can train here, play here in midweek matches and play for Bath on the weekend, I believe he could come on leaps and bounds for this loan

I agree with all of this:

    - Train here....tick

    - Play competitive games for Bath....tick

    - Play midweek matches for U18s\U21s....tick

    Exception being:

    - NOT TRAIN with the 1st team....FAIL !!

See the Yeboah thread for your answer.

    Just been reading it, shocking!

I can understand loaning him out to get the game time, but equally, whilst he's still training with us on a day to day basis, why don't they keep him around the 1st team rather than drop him down?!

  3. Over the years, Tinnion has been vociferous in us using academy kids and telling managers to do so.

Now that Manning has been appointed by him, and Tinnion's head is on the block with regards to the new manager and new signings, I wonder if he'll be quite so keen for all the academy players to play now? I'm certainly not seeing it at the moment as it appears we're looking to new signings rather than bringing anyone through.

I did think it slightly strange that in talking about Sat post match he highlighted their first goal and how easy they’d played thro us with two passes

He said they had largely been working on the defensive base , and not only did I Not , personally think it needed masses of work or change , but that a large part of the work is not particularly showing as it largely didn’t need to be

We weren’t a car crash defensively then and we aren’t now

Think back a season or two, and Vyner was getting vilified. NP and Fleming worked really hard and stayed patience with Zac, to such an extent he got rewarded with a very good new contract. We're now starting to see some of those mistakes creep back into Vyner's game.

Whatever, he was doing prior to Mannings arrival, he needs to do again, but somehow I suspect Manning is asking him to do things that's exposing his abilities\concentration once again, which is a shame, because when Zac is on form he oozes class.

Indeed. He's allowed these idiots to run the club.

But Lansdown Snr has shown in the past he's the only one who's capable of making the right calls (sometimes)

Didn't SL previously admit he had to come back to the club and sort out the Holden mess before he then appointed Pearson?

Sounds like he needs to do the same again!!

So we’ve gone from 1 in 8 years to about 5 since..pretty standard and average I guess.

Would love a proper set piece expert though. Not sure how many he scored but loved watching a Micky Bell free kick

I'd love to know what percentage of free kicks Mickey Bell score. Every time he stepped up, it felt like we had a high percentage of scoring.

I wonder what's the oldest thing we 'own' related to our Club.

I don't mean to be rude by saying oldest, so I'm going to change it and say stalwart of the club, and that's Marina Dolman. Aside from some fans, she's probably one of the longest serving public ambassadors we have, and links back to a bygone era for the club.

I'm not sure what I keep coming back for to be honest

Long gone are the days where a result really gets to me, I can remember the days of getting home on a Saturday evening after a defeat and literally couldn't talk to anyone and would sulk for days

I think this came to a head after we lost to Hull at Wembley and a fellow Bristol City fan turned to me and said it's only a game, and no matter how you react you can't ultimately change anything

Nowadays I hardly blink if we lose, or are on the end of any controversy. Though I still get a buzz from watching those sat around me reacting how I used to

To me attending a game is more about the match experience on the whole, meeting up with fellow supporters from different walks of life and interacting with them

I'm sure many can pick up on here, I suffered badly from depression etc, and have been well known for being a miserable sod and look for the worst in everything

Though I am not as bad as a friend I used to sit near, the season we won the league and spanked  Walsall he was still moaning things were not right

As much as I would like to see us compete in the Prem, I often wonder if you are a mid table side what you actually look forward to?

You will never challenge for the title, you will never get near European football and you will never go down - it seems such a boring future

One could argue we're the Championship equivalent of that !

  9. HOPE: I'd love to see the expansion of the stadium continuing. I don't want a replica South Stand where the Atyeo is, but a massive single tiered wall of noise home end (which unfortunately would need to demolition of the houses behind). I'd like to see the corners filled in, so that we don't have massive areas of space within the ground that makes everything feel disjointed. I'd like to see a 2nd tier on the South Stand, with executive boxes, and eventually the Dolman replaced (in the event that the block of flats behind get knocked down). All in all, raising the capacity to 35,000 and upwards. I'd like to see some serious ambitions with the stadium - we always seem to capitulate on plans.

As a city in the top 10 for population - and that's not even counting the greater Bristol\Avon region - we should be able to hold our own as a football club, and become established as a top 10, or even a top 6 club, with us maybe challenging for one of the cups i.e. league or FA Cup, especially now the big boys don't prioritise them as highly these days.

As with Oxford, one would hope that once Liam Manning has this season out of the way, all his new signings and philosophies will come together and we'll romp the league next season, and the club goes on to be 51% owned by the fans, with cheap tickets, and being self-reliant financially.

    All the above, total fantasy!

EXPECTATION: I can see us continuing to sell the crown jewels to keep our heads above water financially, and we'll continue to flutter around mid-table, with us losing each time we play parachute payment teams. We'll continue to do this for a year or two, until the next latest fad of coaching comes in, LM gets found out and we continue to get out played, whilst rigidly sticking to our patterns of play. We'll get to the stage where the players won't be able to deal with it, and we'll start to slip down the table. LM will then get released, and we'll be onto the next rinse n repeat cycle of the latest buzz words and style of play.

I expect us to hire an experienced manager, then an up and coming manager, and then an experienced manager......see where I'm going with this?!

As time goes on, SL will either be too old to run the club, or alternatively (God forbid) he passes away, and the club gets sold onto anybody by JL after he's got so sick and tired of all the crayon jibes, and then we'll then go through a cycle of massive losses, gambles, and risk taking, leading to who knows where !!

All in all, nice and rosy :-s

Who said on Radio Bristol it’s all about the summer now and planning for that. Great! 🙄

So that'd 500quids worth of season tickets flushed down the drain for this season as we look to plan for the following season once again.

  11. Last time we played Leeds, they wanted to charge £47 for an away fan to attend, and then agreed to reduce down to £30.

The fans might have a point about the cost of travelling away, but they also need to look closer at home as those prices were disgraceful.

Does anyone know if this is now defunct, haven't been able to log on for ages, I know a couple of OTIB'ers are or were moderators on there,  possibly @Eddie Hitler or @phantom from memory. Just wondered wether it's just me or maybe I'm banned 😃

    Thanks

I tried logging on the other day but couldn't remember my password, however the password reset option wants a "security check" provided to allow the reset, but there isn't a way to provide the security check.

In short, dunno if it's still alive as a site !!

ps. for clarity, this is the site I'm referring to https://www.bristolcityforum.co.uk/

No room behind the SS unless you start bulldozing and tidying up the ayteo in unlikely to get your much more capacity unless you start bulldozing.

i don’t think there is too much in the footprint between the lansdown and the dolman to be honest - so a mirror image stand would look pretty good!

my ultimate dream would be to bulldoze behind the ayteo and build round the same size from the lansdown making a “park end” pedestrianise the road and just have a stand that feeds out onto the park, could have all your corporate stuff up the top - large amounts of glass looking back across the park and to the bridge

I was thinking exactly the same thing the other day, and then I got to thinking what if the upper Lansdown stand continued around until a third or halfway along the South Stand? It would increase the capacity to close to 30,000, but would just look s**t. However if you mirrored something similar at the Atyeo end, it may not look so bad, but TBH it would only be a temporary or half arsed solution IMO anyway - just a stop gap to get more seats.

Ultimately, we all know the solution is that the houses in Ashton Road and Raines road would need buying up, and only someone with a "can do" attitude and finances to match would pursue that route - I don't think we have that kind of board at the moment, unless everything is very secret and clock & daggers!

Similarly, the first block of flats closest to the Dolman would need to be purchased also. Which reminds me, how safe are those flats these days? Especially given the situation with what's happened to Barton House in Lawrence Hill recently?

  14. One of the things I keep hearing is the lack of time for coaching and doing work on the grass.

Therefore putting aside any of the arguments about whether NP was getting the most from the players, or whether we have a top 6 squad, the fact of the matter is that those at the top made a decision to replace our head coach when there's pretty much no opportunity during the season to get his coaching principles across.

Got similar hallmarks to what happened at Oxford for LM. Took him all preseason to get the squad playing his way.

I'm expecting that this season is just gonna fizzle out.

  15. Not really sure where I'm going with this, but in Bristol City's infancy we became known as The Bristol Babe due to our fast rise up the league and FA Cup final appearance. Back in the day, we never really built on those foundations, and capitalise and invest to become a powerhouse in football.

Could the same argument be said with the Womens football team? Didn't we play and beat Barcelona only a few years ago? We now find ourselves back in the top division with almighty attendances compared to other teams (Arsenal aside) and so, are we at risk of falling into the same trap as The Bristol Babe, and ultimately missing the boat on becoming a true player in womens football due to lack of ambition?

It's difficult to see where to next capacity increase would fit in.

Fill in the Atyeo corners? Lose segregation, gain a few hundred.

Two tier Atyeo? Not a huge increase in numbers, right to light protests from Ashton Road residents.

Two tier South Stand? Possible, but hugely expensive.

Complete rebuild of the Dolman?          Is there room?

Don't think right to lights applies any more, so a two tiered option would be the best on the existing footprint ie. Without buying the houses up.

Filling in the corners between the Lansdown and Dolman stands would help also, if only for atmosphere rather than masses of additional seats.

  17. Does the stats on our attendances give us serious credence for somehow getting the capacity increased to ~30,000?

There seems to have been a lot of talk about the number of u12 season tickets restricting normal pay on the day ticket purchases, but would a higher capacity mitigate that?

Tried 2 cards but none worked. Messaged Jerry (legend) on Twitter who rang me back and took a phone payment with same card, worked.

Pity the systems we pay a £1.50 booking fee for don't actually work. Perhaps Jerry should be getting all the £1.50's (and would deserve it!)

I had the same. My card number was correct and so was the CVC number, however the ticket site remembered my OLD expiry date for the card. As soon as I updated the expiry date it worked.

    Absolutely.

The club could quite easily send an email to all ST holders in the SS and ask the question.

Make it simple yes or no, non replies count as not bothered either way.

The fact is that at WHU pretty much all fans stood, myself included, only sat down when the physio was performing an operation without anaesthetic on the injured players, and at half time.

What about that extra tier on top of the SS, was that ever in the plans?

I thought it was only ever a discussion about whether executive boxes should go along the back of the SS rather than an extra tier.

I'm pretty sure the original plans had boxes, but got removed at fans request.

I also thought the concourse in the SS was meant to have a mezzanine floor also, but that never happened either.

This brings back so many memories. The tenacity of Gerry Gow, but also of Tom Ritchie whose workrate was extraordinary. Joe Royle gets his first goals of the season and Motson calls us Bristol a lot.

When the full time whistle goes, is that "congratulations" playing on the tannoy?

As I remember it was a bit too bouncy on Oldbury Court school playground, , but stung like mad if it caught your thigh ( we all wore short trousers in those days!) on a cold day.

Also remember trying to mend with a hot knife to weld the plastic together after a puncture on the rose bushes around the play ground.

Pretty sure I had one of those around 1979-80ish.

Lived in Hanham at the time, and it probably would've come from the shop opposite the old Bus Station in Hanham, which is now a Shaunaks Chemist.

Can't for the life of me remember the name of the shop. It would've been like a cross between a hardware store and a B&M style shop, but on a lot smaller scale.
