The only thing I could understand is if there is a deal ready to go for investment in the club. Anything other than that then I think that the Lansdown regime is killing the club and they really have lost the plot altogether. The statement says that results are the issue. They’ve got loads out through injury, a team full of academy youngsters, Nige has had no money to spend and yet they are expecting promotion? Seriously? Promotion? They can’t even be in the same universe as everyone else if they honestly believe we should be top of the league? I love this club, but unless the sacking is due to some big sale to a serious investor then I’m done. We were lucky to have such a superb calibre of manager as Nigel Pearson who worked under ludicrous constraints but who never complained publicly. Had he been given money to spend I believe that we would have eventually reached the Premier League. I really fear that we will be plunged back into another shambles and this time there really would be nowhere to hide for the Lansdown’s. Seriously gutted by this ridiculous decision. Dumbfounded.

Agree with a lot of the observations on this thread. There is another aspect to factor in here and that is confidence. Ipswich have started very brightly this season and so they are playing with more mental freedom and they are looser as a result. In my opinion @Harry is bang on when talking about the pass either being over hit or under hit. An example of this that I can remember is towards the end of the game (I recall we were pretty much in control of the match for the last 20 minutes) when we were in the attacking 3rd. Cornick (who gave us extra attacking impetus when he was introduced) had the ball near the touchline of the Lansdown and was facing Mark Sykes for a straightforward pass. We had bodies in the box and a bit of momentum, but the simple pass to Sykes was under cooked. Sykes had to move forward to receive the ball allowing Ipswich to close him down and snuff out the attack. One of Alan Dicks comments from years back was about passing and said “If you are passing, pass, get it there”. If you don’t do the basics well then you’re going to end up frustrated. If we have players fit and build a bit of momentum then we’ll have more belief and the football will start to flow. As @Davefevs mentioned. We’re fit and are still able to compete well when out of sorts. We can battle. With the right mindset and improved passing we’d have less battling to do and more opportunities to be creative as solid passing creates extra time and space on the ball. Very fine margins.

Nigel Pearson took on a mammoth job. Honestly, how many reputable managers would have put their reputations on the line with the instruction that they would have no competitive money to spend and instead blood youngster from the academy in what is one of the most competitive leagues in world football? Coppell wasn’t prepared to do it, Hughton wasn’t prepared to do it and yet Nigel Pearson took on the challenge whilst not realising just how bad things really were until he began working with the club. He has worked within tremendously difficult financial constraints and he has also worked to change the culture within the team. It doesn’t matter if you are a star name or not. It doesn’t matter if you have played well and then had a couple of bad games. It doesn’t matter if you have fallen out of favour for a while. If you can show commitment to the cause you will get another opportunity to stake a claim for a place in the starting lineup. He is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in and he comes across as a very authentic person. Love him or loathe him he is true to his words and he doesn’t hide in press conferences either and is clear in his post match views. There is no bamboozling with scientific garbage, just an honest pure footballing assessment. He calls it out and he doesn’t hide. He has the respect of his players. Even the fans are onside with NP now that they can see that it takes time to turn things around. We are competitive in matches for the first time in a long long time and whilst inevitably mistakes are made on the pitch that happens in football whoever is in charge. We don’t go on 8 game losing streaks with NP. If SL / JL or whoever cannot appreciate the immense job that NP has done then I’m afraid they don’t deserve him. I cannot think of any manager who would have taken the job under those circumstances and made such a compelling case to be offered a new contract? There will be many a raised eyebrow if we don’t secure his services and not just from inside the club. I cannot get my head round why the issue hasn’t been discussed when the good work that he has done is so abundantly clear to almost everyone?

GasCast The last 10 minutes is worth a listen. First bit talks about how they were having a party to celebrate JCH’s homecoming and they were getting up to the minute updates from someone who was ITK. I'm of the same opinion as PeterdeMeteor when he says "I'll believe it when I'm sat in it" , which is a phrase I've become accustomed to repeating far too often. Same applies to the absolute mess of the transfer deadline day and the recent South Stand planning issue..how can the so called professional people responsible for running a football club manage to mess things up on such a regular basis? I now truly believe there is no ambition for anything at Rovers. Its a non stop parade of hope and disappointment with the odd prospect of light at the end of the tunnel dangled like the proverbial carrot on a stick to keep the suckers buying season tickets in the vain hope believing that one day..just maybe they will actually do something rather than float up n down between divisions 3 and 4.
