  1. I think it was Billy Sharp who was at Sheff Utd at the time who played the day after his son had died - Billy scored a goal and lifted his shirt to reveal a message dedicating the goal to his lad. If memory serves, both the opposition manager and the ref were aware of his loss and his intention that if he did score, he'd be making a tribute statement. Neither the ref nor the manager wanted to see the player punished if that happened. He never got booked. Common sense.
  2. I have read that Charlton, Wrexham and Bolton are all interested and that both Charlton and Bolton have had bids rejected. Now, ordinarily when a player is in demand, the price goes up as the selling club generate a bit of a bidding war. Why do I think that the Fewers will be the first club in the world to have a Dutch Auction for their player, where the club say 'right, we want a million... and then keep bringing the price down until someone blinks'.
  3. I think they are already behind the Vixens in terms of average home attendance. So they do lay claim to being the 4th biggest supported side in the City.
  4. To be fair to the OP, when it first opened, the Sports Bar was just that, and then it changed.... It's 60% food - if you can get a table - and hospitality over-flow. It ceased being a meeting point and an extension to the Fanzone when the general going-got-a-bit-better. Fair enough, it probably turns a fair coin, but if you want to meet your mates or have a pint, go to a pub.
  5. I think the problem Cam might have with his no-nonsense attitude towards defending is VAR. An asset to any side, just not necessarily one where every cough is reviewed by a dozen different cameras and a gallery of so-called experts. You wouldn't want to play against him. But under the level of scrutiny of top-flight cameras, would you get 90 minutes out of him, or would he get sent off for playing the game as WE like to see it played.
  6. I have more Championship clubs with the same number of appearances. Does that make me worth more than a Tilson?
  7. Reckon most of us could build a half decent squad with 600mil.
  8. The release fee is likely to be the starting point at which the club have to start a conversation, if 3 clubs come in, they can probably accept the highest offer above the release fee.
  9. Job swap with Southgate.
  10. You have to wonder if Screech who Wally signed is going to be doing the coaching. This production line they have never stops.
  11. Wonder if they have hospital corners.
  12. And if they don't graduate and get dumped from the programme, they'll get a Deere John letter.
  13. Haven't done the currency conversion yet, but is it normal to charge academy players?

Maybe they ordered a shit load of eggs by mistake and we are now have to play a waiting game.
  17. I generally jump on the bus after the game, more often than not I end up on the first one to depart. Never timed it, but leaving the Lansdown stand usually plenty of time for a piss before leaving the ground and walking over to the stop. No idea how many busses they put on after the game, but there are usually 2 or 3 waiting, not sure if that leave enough time for those who get a pint after the game to also get a bus or not, or if all 3 fill up within 30 mins of the whistle.
  18. You know just how the debate they're having about their new owners is going to play out. Someone will say something challenging, someone else will get the hump, someone else will say that they've got first-hand-knowledge of a situation and then their 'moderator' will get twitchy and shut the thread down, but only after banning a few people. If there is one thing they don't allow over there, it's a conversation!
  19. That was because every year he had to rebuild his squad as he relied on the loan market. It was quite a clever ploy by him, fill the squad with loan signings, then say 'I need 9 new players' - Wally lets him sign them, he then needs a dozen games to get them playing how he wants at which point they are mid-table enough that they couldn't justify sacking him based on team performance. The fans seemed to love being a feeder club for various Premier League sides and assumed that 'Joey had the contacts', they overlooked the fact that to actually progress, you need experienced players alongside your own developing players and the odd loan signing. Not a squad with talented players who know they'll be going home at the end of the season.
  20. Wonder how much of this is true, and how much in bobbins. Cellino Al Saeed | Bristol Rovers GasChat Forum
  21. Living local to the Mem, I can assure you that 'most Gas live local' isn't true. You see more kids wearing City shirts walking around Gloucester Road than you do kids in Fewer shirts. Same goes for the pubs. Granted, outside of a match-day none of the pubs in the area are overly 'football', mostly they're generic 'student friendly' places which may show Premier League games, but given they've played at Eastville, Bath and now the Mem, they're far more spread than they'd want to admit. Locally, more people who like sport live give the impression that they'd rather see the Bears than the Fewers.
  22. Gaschat is more amusing than usual at the moment, quite a few of them are having some significant doubts about the new owners who aren't just NOT spending money, but they're PRETENDING to spend money giving the impression that all is ticking along nicely whilst not delivering anything - safe in the knowledge that the DIY stand they can't fill must show how serious they are about doing stuff. I'm sure they'll kick a few signings over the line and make their squad more competitive, but if you were an agent, you'd be negotiating an 'avoiding relegation' bonus in to any contract rather than a promotion bonus. My guess - 3 years from now, they'll still be lower league, the Mem will have had a few more licks of paints and the club will be knee-deep in 'ground development' borrowing with no obvious way out.
  23. Have to say, the signing of 'winger' Andi Weimann struck me as an expensive punt. Another player who out performed based on my expectations.
