He played the James/Williams contract question with a very straight bat, but gave himself away when asked about Twine, who from the body language will start on Saturday.

To reach 72 points realistically we have to win the next 3 games. Beyond that home games against Swansea, Huddersfield, Rotherham and Blackburn are also must win. That leaves Sunderland and Stoke away as games where we could win. The likelihood of winning all these games is low to say the least. I don’t know what the odds of us getting into the playoffs is, but I would looking for at least 10-1 before I would risk any of my hard earned cash.

Both Ayman Benarous and big Rob have suffered repeated hamstring problems in their recover from ACL injuries. Is this a coincidence? a common problem in the recovery from ACL? or is it a problem unique to BCFC? These are the questions that need answering.

Hamstring according to the BP.

Hopeful that both Twine and Sykes will be involved this week.

No problem with a half-time sub (assume Cornick a knock), but why the change in shape from the first half where we controlled so much of the 45 mins?
They played through us, around us, behind us. We had no answer. CB spacing went to pot as they slid in their forwards.
To end, well done though, three points, winless run over, a big boost after a tough set of fixtures.
And chilllllllllll.
Yes, the way we played in the 2nd half you’d have thought we had played 120 mins against a Premier leagues team less than 3 days ago.

Not disputing what you say, but would love to know where you got the figures, obviously if it's a "can't say" , then fair enough.
The internet seems to think JW is on around 10/11k pw , with Knight on about £15k. If they are close, trying to reduce Williams salary in the next contract will be a hard sell.
What will determine if Williams stays, or not, will depend on whether like sized clubs (Cardiff, Brum, Swansea) are A) interested in signing him and B) what they are willing to pay him. I would imagine if we match any outside offers then he will stay, if we don’t, he won’t.

I think Joe has been playing well all season, although for some perhaps it’s been noticeable under LM. Had an injury (calf)neither side of the manager change, but I think he gives us something different, and is in his peak years.
I think he’s proved he’s over the hamstring injuries and would give good balance to the rest of the midfield next season…which will be a young central-midfield.
Williams (27 at start of season)
Knight (22)
Gardner-Hickman (22)
Bird (23)
Murphy (19)
+++++
Benarous (21)
Taylor-Clarke (20)
Backwell (21)
+++++
not included Stokes as I don’t see him playing any deeper roles, expect Kadji, James and King to be released, nor the wide midfielders.
But the 5 above is a good core imho.
You writing off James staying Dave?

I've got it in my head that we had a penalty shoot out at the Gate at some point in the late 90's or very early 00's. I seem to remember the opposition manager moaning like **** that the ref chose to have the penaltys taken shooting towards the Atyeo and that it wasn't fair.
Against Bournemouth in the JPT on the way to the final in 2000.

Mind you Matt Turner's penalty save record is ridiculous, about the only thing he's good at
Incredibly, Turner's saves meant that he has now stopped 11 of the 25 spot-kick efforts he has faced in his professional career, denying the opposition on 44 per cent of occasions from twelve yards
It won’t get that far. Sam Bell’s goin score a breakaway goal in the 118th minute. Mark my words.

Playing Forest, Coventry and Leeds in the space of 8 days with our numerically limited squad was always likely to be too much. So it proved.

They were a yard quicker than us in both thought and movement. I don’t think the 72 hour turn around helped.

5 limit in match day squad. We have 6 loans. Max you can have is 8, 4 from one club. We had 5 earlier in the season but the two midfielders went back to respective clubs, one of which has now gone to Exeter on loan. We now have a goalkeeper, two CBs, two midfielders and a LB/LW on loan. Main difference is we now have an extra CB on loan
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah , blah, blah blah.

Described by Manchester City as a "skilful forward with blistering pace", Mebude is renowned for his goalscoring ability, and was named academy player's player of the year for the 2021–22 season.[

Not a whoosh. I had no idea. Was the 73 side with the kids of Gow, Ritchie, etc?
The Gow generation played in the 1970 semi against Spurs. Gerry matched up against a young kid called Graeme Souness. I can’t remember who played in 73, possibly Collier, Mabbut, etc. Hopefully someone out there will have a teamsheet they can share.

Be good if we could beat Burnley next week and make the quarters.
Anyone know what the furthest is we’ve gone in the FA YC in the past.
At the risk of a whoosh, the Final in 1973, we lost 4-1 to Ipswich on aggregate. We also lost to Spurs in the semis in the late 60s

Max makes fantastic reflex saves, sweeps exceptionally well and will come for crosses when most keepers say at home. However, he has a problem with shots that bounce in front of him, like last night, because he gets caught with his weight on his heels, falling backwards rather than diving forwards to smother the ball, style Clemance and Shilton. He also flaps at inswinging corners, but generally gets away with that.

Bit harsh.. my point is that we are clearly not top 6 worthy and for us to reach those heights then we need to improve. Whilst JK’s effort and application are exemplary I personally feel that we need more quality in midfield. If things don’t change, they stay the same..
Fundamentally disagree. The midfield is fine, our problem is the quality of the two wide forwards. I’ve seen enough of Mehmeti to think he won’t make it at this level and Bell is very much a work in progress.
A fit Sykes on the right and Tommy and Nakhi interchanging between the centre and left is worth trying and may solve the creative problem.

Looking at the highlights, Simms could well have been offside for their second. Would like to see a freeze frame if anyone has one.
