  1. I'm feeling the same after 74 seasons. It will be very hard to not renew and not come again but it's supposed to be entertaining, win lose or draw.
  2. Six points away from bottom three! Safe? Like hell we are not. I wouldn't gamble on us staying up. Manning may be a useful coach but he's a lousy manager at this level. And can he take Tinnion when he leaves.
  3. Considering the comments that I've seen since the Wednesday match, not there or even listening to Radio Bristol, the two full backs should be Tanner and Roberts. And I'll bet that he doesn't play two strikers. And how we need a midfielder who can make penetrating passes. How about Naismith instead of James or Williams? Anyway my pessimistic mind tells me that it will be another home defeat. Cheerful sod aren't I.
  4. Change now while we aren't in real danger of the drop! And early enough to plan for next season. Also if there was any doubt that Conway would want a move this summer, that is a 100% certainty that he will go. What a waste of a good striker.
  5. I know I said it earlier this week but his body language told me that he hasn't a clue on how to organise the squad into a team that suits him. Simple answer is to get a MANAGER, not a head coach, who will be able to restore the players confidence on the pitch. As that will not happen, he will have another relegation (did MK go down at end of his time there) on his career record.
  6. What was so important about those goals and the 2 points for a win. We also won the home game v Shrews the next day and on the following Saturday a 2-0 win over Oldham at Ashton Gate meant we won promotion by goal difference over Mansfield. PS, it wasn't goal difference but I can't remember how it was calculated.
  7. Exactly what I'm thinking. LM is reminding me of the first three or four years with AD. He was a very young ex player who hadn't achieved anything as a player. No caps, no cups and no league promotions. It took him four years of scraping enough points to avoid relegation before the team that he built with the then version of Academy boys won promotion to Div One, nine years after AD arrived. As for the other City managers that have won promotion for us. Either ex players with caps or who had been successful at the level we were at. Pro footballers hardly ever respect managers who have never played international games, won trophies at a higher level or proven high quality coaches such as Fred Ford. I suspect that at least several of our squad were thinking "who the fxxx is he and what's he won?" Especially when as mentioned, he was more concerned with the defence before his first match at QPR than scoring goals.
  8. Harry, I hope that your points estimate at end of season is what we'll end up on. But, having seen seven relegations in my time, I have a nasty feeling that the team spirit built by Pearson and his managerial colleagues, is no longer with us. That spirit over the last two seasons has kept us well away from the bottom five, but what will happen if I'm correct in my assessment? It only needs another two or three poor, losing, games to leave us facing a real problem. Those in the bottom five have been battling to get out of bottom three all season; most of our squad will not even see it coming!
  9. They were very well paid and had a busy social life. Why go elsewhere?
  10. ST holder. Do I go to the match, leaving home just after breakfast? Watching a dull game that will probably end in humiliating defeat? Or stay here, start the evenings bolognese, and get on with plenty of other things like gardening, laying paving slabs in back garden, track-laying on my latest model railway? What should I do? Advice please.
  11. I've just watched the post match interview and his body language shows him as a completely negative person. Looking down as he answers, mumbling rather than talking clearly. Not one positive reply, or comment along the lines of "poor today but we'll pick them up by next Saturday for a local derby". And totally agree with your comment about being one of the lads. I remember as a seven year old, reading that the Wolves manager Stan Cullis only worked withe the players on a Friday. So asking my Dad why, he said that the trainer, the only coach on the books, worked with players all the week to get them fit and ready for the match, but that Cullis spoke on a Friday to wind them up to play like hell in the match.
  12. I told them what to do and they didn't! As others have said just like too many in football; blame the players and not me. If he is still here next season we are certs for the drop. I've jokingly said for many years that when I can't get to Ashton Gate to watch and enjoy City playing football, please screw the lid down and send me to the crem. I never thought that I would choose not to go because I don't enjoy it! I stuck it out in 1982 to 1984 but this is the club taking the piss from all supporters.
  13. We don't have a manager or assistant manager. We have a Head Coach (not) overseen by Jon and Tinman.
  14. 74 years support and I feel exactly the same. I know it's often said that no renewal of ST but that is how I feel and I never thought I would ever say that. Manning is not a football team manager!
  15. Disgusting. Longevity of support for the football club and elderly age are not reasons to avoid a ban on attending pro football matches.
  16. As one who started following City when the normal game tactics were so similar by almost all clubs, I absolutely agree with what you want from a game. Excitement near the goals so that even a nil nil draw is an interesting and uplifting match. After all the objectives of the game is to let off steam at the end of a working week. Not a chess match that requires the brains of a genius with moves taking place at one per day!
  17. I saw Inter Milan in a European match at Aston Villa a year or two after they had won in the 1990 World Cup win and Brehme Matthaus and Klinsmann played. Well worth the entry money.
  18. @spudski I guess that they are on an ego trip. Since I was a young boy, I've enjoyed "talking" with other fans of all ages in newsagents waiting for the Green In to arrive and on the train to and from Ashton Gate with eight or nine adult neighbours. But we just gave opinions on things that had happened during matches and what we'd do in the future games. It was just banter and not taken too seriously. I know I spend too much time on here but I have so many other things to fill my day like dog walking, cooking our meals, learning another language, gardening, diy'ing and building an N gauge model railway. I'm sat here now waiting for daylight and the first dog walk on the beach. Have a happy day everyone.
  19. That performance following Tuesday tells me that Manning may be a good coach but he is NOT A MANAGER.
  20. Sykes didn't appear to be match fit by a long way. Not one attempt to beat the full back. I'm not blaming him. Either poor instructions from LM or nowhere near ready to return. The youngster signed from Belgium - Yeboah would have seemed like an international. All round, a dreadful City performance from Head Coach to the ball boys.
  21. My father saw City in around 1910/12. Lived in The Rhondda but had an uncle living on Coronation Road and so his Dad would bring him over to Howells on the paddle steamers. If City were at home, all the males went to watch; the females stayed where they should be, in the kitchen! Only joking about the last comment, I think it's brilliant that so many females come to watch us.
  22. @italian dave 1960? You've lost me. I know we got relegated and Del Shannon had a massive hit with Runaway after BBC Hit or Miss programme voted it a total failure. I left school and got my first job at £3, 3 shillngs and 8 pence but what else happened?
  23. I do wonder if some people are so fixed in their ideas and way of life, imposing them on others, that it works against the benefits. In a free country, it should be left to every individual to have their own beliefs, diets, religion and every other facet of their life.
