Having experienced safe standing all over Europe, and having undertaken doctoral research on atmosphere last year in Stockholm and Helsinki, I am convinced that the post-Hillsborough all-seater deal has destroyed the uniue symbiosis between football fans in England and on-pitch moments, and instead allowed for the rise in ultras culture, one that is separate from the occasion of the match. We need safe standing to renew the atmosphere and culture in English football, lest capital forces dilute it further.
