I honestly can’t remember such a half arsed, shambolic, amateur, unqualified bunch running the club before though.

Nail, head, the, squarely, on, hit. Certainly not since the days when we thought it was sensible to hand out 11 year contracts.......so being kind they are the worst for at least 40 years and by some distance too.

    Watched Bath City yesterday.

i left the game at half time.

The ball spent most of the time 40 feet in the air. Awful long ball football from Bath and Torquay

Can’t be good for a young players development surely???

Better than sitting on the bench for months on end with no hope of getting on. Luckily only one of those two players belongs to us.......................

  3. I won’t quote the post @The turtle but spot on. If football gets any more scientific it will simply go back to the 80’s i.e. **** all bums on seats. For many people there needs to be action on the pitch. People who enjoy a tactical 0-0 are very much in the minority and there certainly ain’t enough of ‘em to pay football’s way, that’s for sure. PowerPoint Binary Ball coaches will end up killing the game.

It has happened at least once before under Manning. On that occasion it was Tanner who at the time was getting flak on here for being ‘negative’.

The negative reaction yesterday may have been because we were losing at the time.

It was 0-0 when it happened. First half.

It’s been a real mess of a season from every angle, when you look at it properly objectively.

    - Board to not agree on whether to sack and replace current manager and coaching staff over the summer, before pre-season starts. Dily dally, leave it too late, have to stick with.

    - Sell best player after the season starts (I have no real gripe with, Alex wanted to go, was inevitable he was going to). Don’t allow money for ANY replacements.

    - Owner appears on local business podcast in his place of residence to discuss the deal. Allow that to be the only time he’s publicly heard from all year.

    - CEO leaves by ‘mutual consent’ after basically flagging he has no idea why he was brought in because the owners son is allowed to do whatever he wants, to the commercial detriment of a club in commercial difficulty.

    - Publicly say ‘we don’t actually need a CEO with the new structure’. Appoint someone who’s essentially a good accountant as Group CEO of three sporting clubs.

    - Ask manager to resign when sitting 7th (?) in the table. Are shocked he doesn’t want to. Cause him to go nuclear in the press, because no one at the club can string a sentence together when speaking externally.

    - Sack relatively popular manager after spirited performance in the middle of an enormous injury crisis

    - Realising you’ve massively misread the room, make things even worse and double down on saying the team should be pushing for promotion, trying to look ambitious to get the fans excited. Fans react by saying that’s unrealistic and naive.

    - Roll out the Chairman who knows nothing about medical or physical performance, to explain why the most senior and experienced medical professional the club has ever had has also been dismissed. Proceed to pick up more muscle injuries than you had before sacking.

    - Say we have a clear playing identity from ‘first team to u11s’ which is front foot, high press, and aggressive. Proceed to appoint a head coach who built his teams to be very methodical, slow in their build up and keeping possession as much as possible.

    - Magically make budget available in January that wasn’t available in the summer in trying to bring in an attacking midfielder, key to the head coach’s style of play despite saying the squad is the best we’ve ever had at this level and just needed a better coach to move us on.

    - Lose out on number 1 target, so loan in a player for 4 months with no buy option, because you didn’t want to pay the fee that the parent club will probably still demand in the summer.

    - Sign a relatively unknown youth prospect with an option to buy. Blame lack of game time in Belgium due to mysterious (or made up?) visa issues. Proceed to not play him.

    - Sign 2 players on a permanent, but loan them back to their parent clubs, not strengthening the squad depth or quality in any way.

    - Sign a very promising young player from Ireland. Lie & say he is currently doing a 3 month ‘mini pre season’ to hide that he’s injured and can’t train or play.

    - Head coach near enough admits he can’t play the way he wants to, and way he was brought in to, with the squad he has.

    - In the middle of very poor run of results and performances with ST renewals on the horizon, Technical Director to appear on local radio and disclose confidential information as he can’t answer hard questions. Interview to have corrections added to it when published in local written press.

    - In the same poor run, head coach is clearly concerned for his job so out of nowhere implies the squad is weaker than last years, so maybe expectations should be lowered.

    - To get people excited for new year, use main striker who Technical Director has publicly admitted has rejected 3 contract offers in pictures and videos for ‘more of this to come next season’ comms.

    Have I missed anything?

Which is why, in my view, the Technical Director MUST be sacked whatever the club does. Very little of his comms are shown to possess any degree of truth which for me is a huge red flag and then add his dubious qualifications to say the least to be in the role then I cannot see how his position is tenable. There is no way back for him whatever the club does as far as I’m concerned. You cannot have people in post who are proven to be incorrect pretty much every time they speak publically.

Tanner is the biggest backwards passer I've ever seen at the club, but he's a bloody good defender so I'll let him off! He mostly did well yesterday, as an aside.

Only him and Max turned up……..

Totally.  I’m as desperate as you and the people around you, that we find the angle and try to play forward.  But sometimes it’s right to be risk adverse.

……..agreed. Had we not been so bloody risk averse in previous games that were dismal 1-0 defeats anyway fans would be more understanding when the ball back to Max is the right one. Liam has caused this himself unfortunately!!

Yeah, just go back to Max, it is frustrating, but we saw at Huddersfield (a) what happens when the angle isn’t there (Tanner).

Angles, tactics, whatever. Not many football fans in Bristol want to see us go 75 yards backwards on numerous occasions. I literally sit in front of half a dozen people who moan all game every game about sideways and backwards. Tactics, shape and the like mean nothing to them. They don’t understand it and want to see balls played forward and chances created. Even allowing for tactics, risk, angles etc. I do get where they are coming from to a degree.

  9. This is the problem. The previous examples of going back to Max from OUR corner kick meant that when it was possibly the right thing to do the boos ring out anyway. It’s an unfortunate case of reaping what you have previously sewn.

    As opposed to who?

We’ve loaned Lewis Thomas to Bromley (not exactly sure what’s going on there) & the rest of our keepers are kids.

Be amazed if we don’t sign a far more experienced back up keeper this summer.

I would imagine Lewis Thomas wants to play a few games. You can’t go seasons without playing even as a Nr 3 keeper…….albeit he was on their bench yesterday.

This thread typifies the weirdness of following city.

Everyone is crying out for progress but at same time lots are poo pooing a player like Twine who is arguably the minimum level throughout the squad / 1st 11 you need you win promotion.

Bear in mind that we generally struggle to attract players  (see Azzaz transfer etc)

There’s a chance we can land Twine due to the Manning connection but here the consensus is he’s not good enough for City.

Who should we go after & why would they sign for us?

As always, depends on the fee. If Bristol City spend £3m plus on a player they have to deliver end of. We don’t have the money to take £3m punts. I wouldn’t judge him solely on yesterday though because they were all below par except Max and Tanner.

To have not said how many have sold to date if they are going well is beyond bizarre. On Tuesday it’s one week until renewal date and if that’s not met with a campaign of “Join the xxx who have renewed already”, I think it’s safe to say we’re a long way down from what the club hoped.

I was thinking it would be hundreds not renewing. Some think it might be a few thousand. My gut feel is the recent run, regardless of the quality of the football, will persuade those of us waiting last minute to give our (futile but still needed imo) message to the hierarchy enough reason to renew and it will end up hundreds maybe a thousand down.

Another poster stating they won't be attending next season to add to the list. I'll remind them next season when they post they do..

There will undoubtedly be a drop off in ST sales, quote this if I’m wrong by all means, it’s just a case of how many……..

Liams first press conference at Oxford: “You look to academies first, why wouldn’t you”

    Liams first press conference here:

I understand the importance of players to see the pathway, and the most rewarding thing for academy staff is where you see someone make a debut. But also from a pure business perspective you invest huge sums in the academy, why wouldn’t you look there first? That doesn’t mean you take everyone from there but it’s the first place you look…..we’ll definitely look there first then go external after that”

Just leaving those here. And guess how many he brought through at Oxford.

It’s the difference between an experienced manager prepared and able to deal with a moaning Senior Player or three in his office and one looking ahead to an important three months next season who cannot afford the seniors to turn on him. Simple as that.

This is a massive loss for the club. I first went to a game at the gate in 1986, and since then there have been lots of downs, and to be fair a few ups. However this news has rocked me...... how will we cope?

You can be sarcastic but if 1000 people take his view then Steve has to find another £0.5m out of his own pocket. Thats ok though cos you don’t give a ****😂

Think his defensive work, tracking back limited a start yesterday. Especially with no vyner / Dickie at centre half

We were home to third from bottom and safe from relegation with fans having watched months (years actually) of shite and the most important thing is to make sure we have people who track back when our talentless squad, trying to play possession football, lose the ball……..again and again?

So….why the MASS exodus of fans (a) when Huddersfield scored (b) on 85 mins?? I hate it when fans leave early at the best of times but that was embarrassing today. We have been on a good run of late and I know things are petering out to another season of mid-tableness but hey…fair enough if we’re losing 3-0 or similar! I’d like to know how many City fans saw Nahki’s penalty scored as we fought regardless of performance to get on level terms.

People leave when they like for whatever reason they like. Hasn’t got anything to do with you.

10 points in those home games?

Didn’t stay to see us beat Swansea tbh it was that shit. Points alone may do you, not me. QPR, Cardiff, Swansea, today - all shit games of football. Wednesday was the worst defending by an opposition at this level I’ve ever seen. The poster who said our performance is dictated by the opposition is spot on.

Is this really how pathetically reactionary we are going to be now? One disappointing draw after a decent run of form and a 5-0 win in midweek?

I was Manning out when we on an extended poor run. But our form has been much improved over the past few weeks. We are a mid-table squad doing mid-table things. Will we win games we don’t expect to and lose some we expect to win. Our league position is about par for the squad.

We can’t constantly keep changing manager without really strong justification. Right now I don’t think that strong justification is there, and Manning needs time - and the summer - to see what he can really do.

That’s what’s going to happen and if he changes nothing and we continue to put these performances in regularly then his position need’s revisiting. The ball is in his court.

Point being that Bristol City have had games like this under every single manager in my lifetime, more frequently than I care to imagine. Expecting perfection every week is what Man City fans do. Sadly, for ua it just won't happen. So there was a point.

……..and when it’s four out of six home games boring people to death fans are entitled to call it out for what it is too.

  21. Garbage game. Another Binary Bore to add to a long list. Huddersfield weren’t totally useless at the back so we massively struggled. Take a point. Hasn’t helped Manning’s cause much going into next season and won’t have persuaded anyone in doubt about a ST to purchase. Far too many of these games. Another season of watching this type of football will do for me I think. No excuses, we don’t operate under massive budget restrictions now. Let’s hope Liam introduces something different come August because this bollocks is ruining my enjoyment of football.
