  1. Back in the 70's us City fans from Taunton and Bridgwater used to drink in the Try Again pub pre match. I usually drank more than was good for me.Anyway we were playing Orient at home and were in the ground pre kick when some of my friends bet me I wouldn't run onto the pitch which in my inebriated state I duly did. After offering words of encouragement to the players I apparently kissed George Merrick which in my nearly paralytic state I do not remember. A large police office approached me and said would I mind getting off the pitch. No stewards just a polite request which I did. Getting back in the East End I was collared by a police inspector and given a stern talking to but allowed to stay in the ground. Times have changed some since the 70's.
  2. Come up from Taunton for home games. Get off M5 at Clevedon, over the hills and into the Park and Ride. Always somewhere to park by the entrance even when it is shut. Free parking and a 20 min stroll to the ground. After the match an easy exit as well. Highly recommended.

    FA Cup 22-23

Just watched my hometown team Taunton beat Yeovil 1-0 in front of a crowd of 2,300. City win as well. Definitely a good night for me.
  4. Would love to see Taunton playing Yeovil in the same league or better still Rovers.
  5. Bristol City fan for life since the late 60's but try and see as many Taunton games that don't clash with City as I can as they are my hometown club. Saw them Monday versus Chippenham Town. It was a cracking game with Town winning 3-1.Chippenham probably played the better football but Taunton defended really well. Their goal was good but Taunton's third was a stunner, blasted in from outside the box. Only August but looks like they might be able to hold their own in their first time at that level against teams with bigger budgets and squads.

    Parking

It is actually okay in Aston Court as we go out past the cricket ground then turn left past the park and run down to the Clevedon road and onto the motorway homewards. Only inconvenience is sometime having to practice your hill starts going up the steep hill.

    Parking

Thanks for all your replies. Went down to LA park and ride and parked on the grass outside no problems. People were going into the park and ride as the sign outside said closes at 22:20 which contradicts their website which states 21:30.Parking in Ashton Court for Sundays match as only £1.20 I think. Nice walk to ground as well.
  8. Just saw the Sky highlights of the Swansea 2 v Millwall 2.Swansea concede 2 own goals in injury. After watching some of City's capitulations late on in games last season. I feel their pain. Well maybe not really as they are Welsh.

    Parking

Looking online seems the PortwayP&R also shuts at 21.30.Anyone know if you can come off the Cumberland basin system just before the swing bridge and get to the SS Great Britain car park.It seems to have been closed off for a long while and you have to go into Bristol then back down the river to access it.Thanks.

    Parking

HI, coming up from Taunton for tonight's match. Usually use the park and ride but see it now shuts at 21:30.What is the score for parking in the John Lloyd centre. I guess it is pay but how much and is it open to the general public. Thank you.
  11. Sorry this is a Man Utd thread but it is relevant to the general post. Went to Leeds to see Utd play. Got there early so decided to wait for the Manchester football specials to arrive. Hid my scarf down my trousers and was wandering around the station when next thing I know I am on the floor with 3 Leeds fans booting me.Luckily the police were there and rescued me .I wondered how they had singled me out and saw when I looked down at my boots about an inch of red and white scarf was sticking out. They must have eyesight like hawks. The rest of the day was pretty interesting too.
  12. Yes.Stood on the side stand for that one. Also remember one of the home games. Was in the open end with the Utd fans when they were attacking the police.Another home game which I think Utd fans were banned from the mate who got the tickets for some reason got duplicates. We were trying to sell them outside the ground when all four of us were bundled into a Black Maria and taken to a local police station.I was put in a cell with a very drunk almost comatose Utd fan who every few minutes was pissing on the floor. The had taken my boots of and I was gradually getting backed up in the corner of the cell. The police eventually took pity on me and gave me a dry cell.Fun times in the 70’s.
  13. Used to support City and Man Utd back in the 70's (now City and Taunton Town) and worked on the railway so used to get virtually free travel. Would get the train to Manchester and catch the football specials even if the were playing in the Midlands. Went to Stoke and got off the train and for some reason the police wouldn't let us out of the station. All of a sudden there was a terrific roar and a train full of Liverpool fans on their way to Birmingham pulled in to station and for probably only 2 or 3 minutes which seemed longer there was absolute mayhem with everything to hand thrown at the train and from it.When it pulled away most of the windows on one side of train were smashed. Also remember Pompey away in the cup in the 70's.Chased out of the ground, punched and kicked on the way back to the station and then pelted with stones queuing up to get in.Although I love coming up to City with my daughter I will never forget standing on the Stretford End with 50,000 in Old Trafford.
  14. Yes there were 2,500 a few years ago when they played Barrow in the FA Cup.
  15. Just watched Taunton win 2-1 to win promotion.Fantastic scenes. So proud of my local team. And City win away. What a day !!!
  16. Taunton born and bred. A life long City fan but off to see the Town today. Really hope they do it.Have watched a few games this season and even when they don't play particularly well they seem to find a way to win games. Up the Peacocks
  17. Was told by someone who seemed to be in the know that Taunton only have to install another turnstile at the other end of the side stand to qualify for the division above. The game last night was delayed 15 mins due to the size of the crowd coming through the two turnstiles.
  18. Beating Rovers in the Johnstone Paint trophy as it was my daughters first game and it got her hooked on City and we have been coming up from Taunton for most home games and a few away ever since. So thank you City for the time we can spend together.
  19. Hi All, Come up from Taunton with my daughter to watch City games. Have been parking in Ashton Court up to now but their closing time is now 17:15 which is too soon to get back to the car. Is it permissible to park in the Park and Ride? Thanks.
  20. There's only one Taunton John Jensen and I have known and been friends with him for at least 50 years. We went to school together in the 70's and started following City early in that decade. There was a good crew of us used to come up from Taunton and always met up with Bridgwater lads on the train for most of the the home games and some away. I went less as I got older but John kept going and I lost touch with him for awhile. We reconnected when he came to work at the Argos warehouse near Bridgwater. He told me about all the interesting trips he had had supporting City home and away. He has battled cancer for three years and through all that time I had to admire his bravery and good spirits. John my friend, I will miss you and hope you can influence a few games for City from up there.
