The one obvious use would be to combat abuse to the referee. A 5 minute sin bin would reduce that dramatically and it would not be quite as contentious or impacting as a second yellow/red card. The players would soon learn too.

i will just say that sometimes it feels like it's coming at you from all angles, but just take a breath and go at your own speed. it will pass.
It's not the same situation as yours by a long chalk but this last year with my mum has felt like that - one thing then another, (and we had that same scramble for a home. Hopefuly Aus is better than the totally shite care system in the UK) but i tell myself it will pass. try to find the small stuff you enjoy doing as well, as all the negative stuff just takes over - someone said make a list of 5 good things that happen to yourself every day, i actually found that tough, but get the point.
right now i am enjoying a cup of tea (! - even the small stuff counts) here and now, thats good enough.
a good friend of mine once said 'i thought i'd hit bottom, then i heard knocking from below' and while that sounds pretty dark, it kind of makes me smile.
chins up
Some of the care homes in Australia are fantastic. Unlike here, many of them are in purpose built buildings and are very modern.
I hope that Tone and his family can find a great one for his Dad as soon as possible.

It’ll be the same person who started referring to ‘the football club’ rather than just ‘the club’.
And referring to football as an “industry”.

Been supporting the club nearly 50 years (yikes) and always thought that as a supporter you should generally “support” the club. I’ve always tried to speak positively of the Lansdowns too for what they have done. I am furious and appalled by this decision and the treatment of Nigel.
We finally, after many years, had a serious, experienced manager who talked sense, who had got on and changed the culture, trimmed costs, met the financial requirements, developed and sold on young players and clearly moved the whole club forward in all areas. There was a clear plan for the first time that I could see for many years.
We are now a club without a CEO, without a strong and visible leader and now without a manager. What a mess.
Nigel managed the club through a really difficult period, with huge constraints and didn’t complain at any stage. I am very grateful for all he has done but am now also mourning what perhaps could have been.

What I can’t square off is that the transition of structure from:
- Gould (CEO)
- Pearson (Manager)
to:
- Alexander (CEO)
- Tinnion (Technical Director)
- Pearson (Manager)
was on the basis that if Tins / Nige could do most of the footie stuff, Phil could use his strengths to do more on the Commercial side. Which is what he did at Palace because they had Freedman as Sporting Director handling the football side with Vieira / Hodgson.
So, just asking the question, seeing as we’ve kept Tins / Nige in place with what appears to be the same remit, does that mean two people with a Finance Skillset and JL will be 1) undertaking the commercial things Alexander was, or 2) are we scaling that back or 3) was Alexander not very good at it that it doesn’t need covering?
That’s my question(s) anyway.
Perhaps there has just been a review of the optimal structure. That’s what businesses do.
The SC&T minutes highlighted that, due to how Bristol Sport is structured, a lot of what a football club Chief Exec would do elsewhere is not the case for City. For instance, management of the stadium, negotiation of the concessions etc is done through the stadium company and I would guess that corporate hospitality is too. I would envisage that a lot of group sponsorship (Huboo are also shirt sponsors for the rugby club I think) and procurement is and can be done through the group structure. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the general back room staff (non footballing specialists) are employed and managed through the stadium company/Bristol Sport. The training ground is built and just needs to tick over and perhaps some of that is also done through other parts of Bristol Sport.
Player signings and contract management can be done by Tins and a finance person.
I don’t know all of what a football club Chief Exec does but it does look like a lot of it has been stripped back.
The only thing perhaps missing from not having a Chief Exec is the “figurehead” role and you only have to think back to a recent one who enjoyed that aspect. I’m more than happy for that to be Nige and Tins.

I was quite surprised to notice a few weeks ago that Eliasson is 12th on the list of highest transfer fees City have received. I know there’s a lot of speculation involved in these things, but I’d not put him in the same category as the other 4.
The other surprise on there was just how much we managed to extract from Cardiff for Lee Tomlin. I hate to say it, because it was probably Mark Ashton days, but that was a hell of a good bit of business.
Ah, ok. I’d forgotten that and thought he left on a free.

Players I’ve been really upset about leaving.
Cole to Newcastle.
Goater to Man City.
Murray to Reading.Reid to Cardiff - anyone but.
Webster to Brighton - he was the start of great things.
With Scott it was inevitable - we have maximised profit on someone who has cost us absolutely nothing and could have left in January - I genuinely through of life this season without him so am not surprised.
we dust ourselves off, we move on and we be thankful for an academy that is producing quality players.
Whilst it’s always a kick in the teeth to lose your best players, being pragmatic and thinking about the overall health of the club and what Nigel and Tins might otherwise have had available to invest, the ones to be really upset about are:
- Diédhiou
- Massengo
- Eliason
- Kalas
- Dasilva
Can’t be bothered doing the maths but it will probably be a similar aggregate amount of fees paid for them which we have not had any sell on in return as the amount we have received for Alex Scott, who didn’t cost us a penny.

Nah, think Steve with his Guernsey connection and linkages with the ‘local’ club, plus biggest ever transfer income for the Club wants to have some reflected glory. No issue with that at all.
I actually wonder if it’s the opposite, wants to be the person taking the flack (ie it was my decision to sell at the end of the day).

He's often cited as our best / most important post war manager on here so the fans do indeed recognise his contribution.
Fans of a certain vintage do but I’m not aware of much having been done by the club, which was the point I was making.

Correct, but it isn't exactly commonplace.
Whilst with Bristol City in October 1983, Terry Cooper became the Football League’s first player-director this century.

Terry Cooper never got the recognition he should have had for what he did for the club during one of its most difficult times, which saddens me.

It's presumably the same contract that has been on the table for the best part of 2 years now? There's no danger of him signing it.
There’s no danger of him signing any contract which we could feasibly offer him. It appears that he has wanted to move on for a long time (waving goodbye at the end of the 21/22 season etc. and based on what Nigel has said).
It’s not about what is being offered and we have maintained the contract offer to solely ensure we are entitled to compensation with no expectation that it would be accepted.

I'm actually positive about Alex leaving. We picked him up from Guernsey as a 16 year old lad for nothing. Developed his natural ability whilst he's been here, he's had two brilliant seasons for us on the pitch. Now we'll pick up a huge fee to push our squad on further and helped changed his life at the same time.
Wish him all the best and hope he smashes it in the PL.
I agree and have changed my view of our best players leaving given where the club has been recently. I used to be gutted, but now, if we receive the kind of fee being touted around and Nige/Tins get a good chunk of it to reinvest, his sale could be transformative for the club. I trust them to spend it well; certainly better than predecessors.
Ironically, his sale could very well put us in a better place than had he stayed. Good luck to him, he’s been a star for us and deserves his chance.

Bryan can play in a number of ways and positions. His value is his versatility!
Ive not really seen much of him for the last season or two, but if there is anything in this then Mr Pearson thinks he is still very decent.
Money is always an issue, however as someone rightly said if he comes he will be within the wage structure and to be frank it’s common knowledge he struggled personally away from Bristol.
Out of contract so a singing on fee could soften the reduced wages blow too?

I went Scott for both - it's not an easy one this year. Lots of players could have taken it but for an injury or a drop in form. For POTY I considered Vyner, Pring, Atkinson, James, Naismith and Wells but couldn't quite see past Alex. And if he takes POTY, he has to be YPOTY by defualt imo, but Conway and Bell both entered my thinking.
Champagne Moment was just a personal highlight, Sam Bell against WBA. His second goal in particular was so well taken, it reminded me of some of Salah's goals at Liverpool.
I agree with the champagne moment. For me it was “oh dear, we’ve lost Semenyo. Oh well, never mind, here’s another one off the production line!”

I'd add geography as another big reason why people watch the matches on RobinsTV. I haven't lived in Bristol for many years now and while I try and get back for a couple of matches a season, I was very happy when RobinsTV started as I could watch all the matches and support the club financially too.
One big doubt I have (that someone else mentioned on the thread): will the club get more money from this than they do from the current setup? If so, ok. If all the matches from every club are available, it would be nice to catch the occasional game from other teams, but it also would sting a bit knowing that the money I'm paying goes as much to the gas, Cardiff and Swindon as it does to City.
That’s where new revenue will be available to the club. It’s a 16/17 hour day for me to watch a Saturday match at AG and the train is £130+. So I go once a season or so. Ironically, it’s not City that is making money from me attending matches, it’s Boro, Preston, Sheff Utd etc.
Covid lockdown was an eye opener for me - I watched every match and happily paid the club to do so. They miss out on that type of revenue stream from people like me now, as they do from those who use VPNs. It’s time the EFL recognised the reality and regularised access to watch games for a reasonable fee. Watching on TV is a poor substitute for live matches so I wouldn’t expect that the hit on attendances would be material.

That type of conversation does not nessicaily have to be direct.
It is more likely to be with the players agent.
Agreed, but I thought that that was not allowed (I know rules aren’t necessarily followed!)?

The personal terms bit was in the Athletic piece and I rightly or wrongly trust their reporting.
I wonder if having had an injury already hamper his season, Antoine might be more inclined to seize the opportunity now.
Either way, a failure to agree a deal now doesn't cause any major headaches.
Why would we let a player discuss terms with a club before agreeing a price? Doesn’t make sense. It’s obviously not in the interests of the club to do that as it unsettles the player and undermines the negotiating position.

“We want our club back” is embarrassing. Seems to be modelled on what Manchester United fans have been saying for years about the Glazers.
I think Man U fans say it because the Glazers are absentee owners who financed their take over by mortgaging the club to the hilt, show no interest and never attend, have siphoned £150m+ of money away from the club in dividends and have let the stadium deteriorate badly.
Whereas the Steve Lansdown has never put the club into debt, capitalised (ie effectively written off) the enormous debts that have accrued, turns up to fans forums and has transformed a very tired AG into one of the best stadia in the league.
Yes, he’s made mistakes and we should be doing better given the amount he has invested (which he would no doubt be thinking too), but no one can doubt that he has the club’s best interests at heart. To be aping Man U and other clubs who have a very different type of ownership is tinpot at best.

That’s fair enough as the developments were linked to get the housing through.
Sounds like the sporting quarter is going to actually happen which is great. I’m looking forward to hopefully travelling down, stay in the hotel for a weekend and be able to see a match and also, potentially, the Flyers too. Will be a fine way to spend a weekend!

Parking tickets - near Ashton Inn 😒
in Football Chat

People have, to my knowledge, been parking there for matches for over 40 years and probably much longer. Whilst the rules have obviously changed, a sensible thing for the council to have done is to stick notices on each car saying that it is now illegal to park here and it will be enforced from the next game.
