The thought often crosses my mind: in a century or so will the people look at our twenty-first century architecture and revere it in the way we revere the nineteenth and eighteenth? Then I wake up.

They almost certainly will, people are already loving the 60s concrete monstrosities.

Things like the Eiffel Tower were hated when they were first built. It's impossible to tell at the time what people will like in a generation or two.

That's exaggeration of which even Gasheads would be 'prowed'.

Life on earth, if it lasts that long, has but 950m years left. The Sun, having lost around 10% of its present mass, will irradiate to cinder all organic matter, plus remove the Earth's atmosphere long before it itself expands.

You're correct though that until then the gaseous 'giant' (sic) will still be minding the gap.

If we are being pedantic, then I can point out that I didn't specify 5 billion for life, but for when the sun will potentially swallow the Earth. The second paragraph stated "in the final years the Earth is inhabited" and didn't specify a timeframe.

But, you know, it was just a silly joke and wasn't making a scientific prediction. ;)

    The gift eh?

    Will this thread ever end?

In 5 billion years the sun will expand and become a red giant. It'll swallow up Mercury and Venus and potentially Earth.

Scientists have speculated that in the final years that Earth is inhabited, there will be a final message sent out into the cosmos that will read "unlucky da shit, we r coming 4 u!"
