I am really not convinced at all by this appointment. Will just sign central midfielder after central midfielder, no width, no pace and power which is what gets you off your seat in football, no plan B….sorry it is boring football! Nigel did not need to be replaced for this! Not going to sell tickets.

Remind me, what have our last two crowds been? 😜

Makes next Saturday absolutely huge as the run of games after, look to be really tough…..

Also, by the time we go to Coventry, we will know the squad we have for the rest of the season too

We do seem to get more out of what, on paper, look to be tougher games. Let's hope that continues.

  3. What a pointless question - it really doesn't matter what I want. What we all want is to get promoted and win the PL, like Leicester. I'd vote yes to that.

We have no say whatsoever, regardless of what we want. SL will either get fed up and slash the asking price, writing off a huge sum, or he won't. What we want has bog all to do with anything sadly.

The way we play under Manning is very odd, he’s trying to be too clever, Knight almost playing as a CF or left winger.

Agree with this. TC is too isolated and I am not convinced Knight is best utilised that far forward. Weimann only seems to contribute when he is played as a striker yet he gets put on the wing.

Just not sure Manning is playing what we have in the way of attacking players in their most effective positions. Mehmeti on the left having to constantly cut back onto his right foot being particularly frustrating.

“When all of those are all fit” seems a very unlikely basis to plan from.

Naismith’s availability record is poor, Roberts has shown little to believe he’s going to be in contention.

The other two have been unlucky with one injury, that’s where I’d start planning.

It obviously doesn't need ALL of them to be fit. The point was that we are a bit light on defenders currently to play a three, which would allow us to play two up front. However that could change in the near future.

All of our forwards would perform better in a genuine two, rather than either being isolated or pushed wide in a three.

Exactly. When McCrorie, Atkinson, Roberts and Naismith are fit I'm hoping to see more of a 3-5-2 as I think our strikers would be more suited to that. Currently we just have too many defenders injured to consistently play this way I suspect.

    Agreed.

But Williams has played well when he's come in.

Really? Funny how we all see a different game. I don't rate him and would definitely be letting him go when his contract ends. James is a harder decision but on balance I just feel his lack of pace and energy would mean I'd be looking to release him too. Frees up space for LM to sign players and help the transition to 'his' team.

  8. I think the reality is that we haven't got any forwards who can play as a lone striker and yet that's what we ask them to do. All of them look better with a partner. For me Cornick is what you get when you spend peanuts. You have to blame the Board, not the recruitment team or the player, who clearly is giving 100%.

If we insist on playing this way then we need a different type who can lead the line and is a good finisher. They cost and that's where the Lansdowns draw the line.

Got a lot of stick recently but thought for the most part kept a really good winger in Clarke quiet. One of his better performances this season

Absolutely right. Well played young George.

Or very wasteful strikers, not taking chances

Are we creating any more chances than we were under Nige though? I think I saw a post saying xG has hardly changed. In which case you can't pin the worse PPG on them, it is more about letting in more goals.

Whether that is down to the changes made by LM or just worse performance by individual players is quite hard for me, as an average fan, to fathom.

My impression of the first half was that the players said ‘let’s go back to how we were playing before LM came in.’ Mind you, it was dire, which is kind of why the board made the change in the first place.
We improved when we started to pass it. Eg lovely move down the right that ended with Knight’s shot saved by keeper to his left.

Yeah, I do wonder if the players are actually doing what LM is asking them to. Maybe, under pressure, they revert to their comfort zone.

It's not like he can drop them en masse as the squad is too small. Comments by Naismith on RTV suggested what he was seeing wasn't what they did in training. All of which makes you wonder if LM is failing to take the players with him.
