  1. That’s not what Gould said. He said we are looking for free transfers, and for those that we might need to fight others for we can pay top ten wages. So I think we gave Naismith (free) a healthy wage but we wouldn’t have given that to Sykes, Wilson or Bajic just because they were free. The wage bill is coming down. It (football club)was £30.2m. Within a year it was reduced to £23.8m. It will probably be around the £21m mark this season and the £16-18m mark at the end of this season before summer recruiting starts. The last time it was below £20m was 2016-17 (£17.9m). So next season we will have a wage bill akin to 6/7 years ago.
  2. He will have better ones than the one’s involved before his appointment. Worked for Moyes at Everton don’t forget. I’m sure he will have his faults too, but it’s a step in the right direction.
  3. I always quite liked Dean Smith until he went to Villa. My mate who’s followed him quite closely says “he can’t build a defence”. No word of a lie!
  4. Post-thread title cruelty is allowed, bring it on Ralph retrospectively!
  5. Sorry, I was referring to my badly attempted thread earlier with Similar sentiments. Edit: You may have missed the furore. I titled my Thread in a clickbait style “Pearson Gone, Euell in as Caretaker” and then went onto explain about the reality of doing that now. Some of OTIB not impressed, some saw it for what it was. Title has now been changed.
  6. Tbh, that’s where the lower limit should come in…over £15m, review by the new compliance group. Might mean they’re very busy though. Or introduce a figure in the middle, say over £30m.
  7. Need to work harder on your thread titles! ???
  8. We have appeased them…and not got any points deducted either. In a season where every point might be crucial, might even come down to GD, why would we do what you suggest.
  9. Reading 2-0 up after 70 mins at home to Swansea (Ince / Carroll) Burnley home to Brum later.
  10. Which is what I asked. Ever admit to getting something a bit wrong? I did. You live and learn.
  11. No, not at all, it’s why I replied politely P88, as I try to all (ahem, most) posters. It’s a forum to express our views. There’s not one post on here I’ve read that I see as rude. They’re just views / opinions. I’d rather in hindsight chosen a better thread title, but the content of my OP remains, and I’d rather the focus was on that, but hey-ho, sometimes things don’t go how you want them too. As I said, I post a lot, I expect some flak…but you did it in a perfectly acceptable way. No issues from me. Some people would be getting all pissy, etc. I’m not like that. Opinionated, yes, sirree, but not horrible. Honestly.
  12. Worse still you get this (paraphrased) kind of thing: I know a lot of fans don’t like Mark but he does a great job for me at the EFL and was instrumental in the RHPC or getting Cat 2 status. which is basically a put down of the fans.
  13. Very true, it’s working out those that play well on match day from those that don’t, then looking at who is training well. I doubt training is the only yardstick. We were so far off in midfield yesterday…
  14. Me too. I’ve long called out for football-savvy people at the higher levels. I called for a Lenny Lawrence-type when both LJ and DH were appointed. We’ve put a football man into recruitment with Tins at long last. We can all agree / disagree on the manager (most disagree with me ?) but we need to have clarity from above. Hopefully the new CEO when announced will bring that and be a good fit with the “football” side.
  15. 3 windows 10 signings - 2 for fees and 1 for compo, 7 free 2 existing players re-signed (Weimann and Baker - now retired). That’s the lowest in the Championship over that period. Those are the hard numbers.
  16. I’ve already posted the whole squad in other threads, this thread was about what he took over in Feb 2021….not the current squad….hence the title, so not disingenuous at all. Although thread titles not my strongpoint today ?. The value of those players is gonna be tiny come the summer. No arguments from me that Nige may have contributed to some of that lost value. But I’m trying to point out how tens of millions can lost and therefore takes a while to recover. And on the flipside of those players losing value under Nige, there are a number who’ve gained value that allow us to hopefully exit this mess in the summer. Whether Nige is wholly responsible for the development of someone like Scott, or it’s just the kid doing it all himself is gonna be one opinion over another, just like it might be for a player who’s lost value. Have his signings improved the squad? Depends on the expectations on those players. Not all signings are the same. Klose v Atkinson for example. That debate is on another thread.
  17. Couldn’t agree more. Guess a bit of a difference between zoom and the whites of his eyes. But, yep, conned basically.
  18. I certainly wasn’t trying to be funny, just trying to bring some reality to what a number of posters seem to want, and some irony too, albeit a bit of a crap thread title. Some will be happy with that reality, cool. Thanks for the response though.
  19. Reporting into SL but as SL in Guernsey, JL was his ground-operative. SL’s heart completely in the right place, just a bit misguided imho. Agree re RG.
  20. In which case, you’ve chosen what you’d do…sack now, appoint Euell whilst we recruit a replacement / appoint Euell permanently, whilst in a transfer window. There is no right or wrong answer. If it does happen we can see how it plays out. Might be perfect.
