Has anyone had their child play in the JPL? It’s early days, but my son might get involved in it. Saturday matches instead of grassroots’ traditional Sunday is what I’m told.

Maybe the training and coaches approach might be different also?!

For those who have a son/daughter playing football in the JPL and may have previously been in grassroots, what experiences and opinions do you guys have as parents/carers?

Any comparisons between both the JPL and grassroots?

I’m new to all this as my son will be playing matches as he enters Year 2 from September and has played for a club since he was about 3 years old.

As a generalisation, Rick, every kind of competitive game that a child plays puts them in the shop window for (especially) local football club scouts who are  looking for recruits to their Academies.

I may be wrong but i believe that children can, and do, play in the JPL on a Saturday and then their Club team on a Sunday.

Good to see the Bayern monopoly broken.

It would be nice for football, if a suddenly shining manager at a non elite club was to see it through.

Villas-Boas eventually regressed but might he have stayed at Porto one more hear and tried to take a strong side to make an impact in the CL.

Spalletti took Naopoli to impressive heights last year..resigned.

    Other good examples too.

Perhaps it's now our time under Manning??

A group of guys, all aged 40, discussed where they should meet for a reunion lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Wetherspoons Pub in Uxbridge because the waitresses had big tits and wore mini-skirts.

Ten years later, at age 50, the friends once again discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Wetherspoons Pub in Uxbridge because the food and service was good and the beer selection was excellent.

Named my dog Penalty, after Lee Tomlin.

Every time I took him to the park the ****** took off and I couldn't find him.

I named my first dog 'Engineer' because every time i kicked him in the balls, he made a bolt for the door.....

(Apologies to all animal lovers - i didn't really - i named him 'Harley' because i wanted a motorbike and the wife wanted a dog - we compromised - i got to name the dog!)

Really poor today in what was a BIG game.
Really didn’t lay a glove on a poor Sutton side.
Most interesting thing about the day was Sutton’s little youth mob having 2 nicked inside the ground and then also trying it on outside afterwards.
    I did chuckle.
But that was a poor effort today. The team looked tired.

FGR were up against a side containing some big guys in central defence but FGR then strangely chose to spend most of the game hoofing hopeful, long, high balls up the middle (well, anywhere actually) to their forwards who lost out time and time again.

Not much skill evident in either side but, what little there was, Sutton had more of it. And, as you said, FGR did look very tired in the second half.

I liked the look of Ryan Inniss for FGR - a big, strong, commanding defender who lost very few battles and who did seem to read the game well.

I also loved watching Cotts in action again. Talk about the 12th man stood on the touchline sounding off for the full 90 minutes.! He's done really well with a poor team but, come the end of the season, i think he'll have failed to keep them up. Cotts is a very good manager but i don't think even he can make a silk purse out of this sow's ear... Hopefully, he'll stay on and sort it out and FGR can come again......

Would not want Warnock here. I don’t mind the bloke at all, have a fair bit of respect for him. But he is not what I want now.

Would you feel the same if we were 3 or 4 points off the relegation spots with just 4 or 5 games left to play?

Hopefully (and it is 'hope') it won't come to this but, should it go that way, i can think of few better to keep us up.

Nah, thousands more qualified / better supporters than me.

Even if that was true (which it isn't), there are loads more people better qualified to run a football club than those currently running it and they have no qualms about remaining in high office - so get in there.....

What became of David Noake? I saw the name Noakes and i sudenly remeber him. I think he had blonde hair. We signed him from Luton Town in 1961  and he left us a year latter for Trowbridge, after making 13 apperances for us.

I think he went on to host Blue Peter........

Great memories in the 70s at Ashton Gate. My spot was the old enclosure next to the tunnel.

My spot was right behind the dug-outs, stood on an old orange (the fruit) crate while my Dad stood a few terrace-steps back with all his old cronies (well, in their thirties and forties they were all 'old' to me!).

I remember the strong smell of tobacco in the air, probably originating mostly from the many pipe-smokers all around the place....

It doesn't have to, and shouldn't, represent me personally. It should however represent our country as a whole and not just a filthy-rich unelected head of state, and a non existent deity.

    Fair enoughski.

    I only asked because in your first post you stated that;

'(it's) about a sky fairy that i don't believe in and a rich guy. Definitely doesn't represent me'.

Is it though? It's just a random pre-existing tune that was chosen, and the words are about a sky fairy who I don't believe in, and a rich guy. Definitely doesn't represent me.

Just out of sheer curiosity, what would represent you personally?
