  1. He's a proper football man and knows how to get the most out of players. Sometimes with infuriating results when playing against his teams but you have say that he is one of the game's characters and I will miss his antics. Happy retirement Colin.
  2. I bought one on Saturday and it improved my enjoyment at the match (and afterwards). I've missed having a physical magazine to refer to and will continue to buy it. Not bothered by lack of adverts and quality is acceptable.
  3. But he was quite young and in a foreign country - he was a bloody sight better than Massengo turned out to become.
  4. "Bottling it" suggests that Arsenal lacked courage / guts but I think that would be harsh. They have a good squad but nothing like as deep as Man City. In retrospect we did quite well only losing 0-3 in the Cup to the Blue Mancs.
  5. I was hoping he was coming back to us - really good player and never worked out why we let him go.
  6. Danny La Rue was always the opposing keeper according to the East End...
  7. My first City Women's match yesterday - congratulations to the team. The experience itself was not that pleasant though - why squeeze nearly everyone into the Dolman rather than spread around the South Stand. So many kids there it was difficult to get out at half time and queues for toilets and catering meant missing first 5 minutes of the second half.
  8. All this just seems to indicate that City were justified in selling as he is not currently of Championship calibre. He's young and should want to improve to get back in the Pompey team - his level is probably League 1 or 2 but who knows?
  9. Kissing much better than biting - remember that horrible Liverpool player Suarez.
  10. May's second was ridiculously good - shot from miles out on the touchline - bit like one from Lee Trundle yonks ago. Enjoyed Andi's even more though as it ended his drought and was a peach of a strike curling in from outside the post - impossible to save.
  11. I have similar journey from N Somerset - about £5 for petrol. Then a pint in a pub and and a pasty and coffee in the ground which is about another £12. My season ticket (SS over 65) is about £15 per match so total is around £32 per game . That's around half of your annual spend. I suppose I could have a more expensive seat and meal and more beer but the overall football experience would be similar. Some of the people I sit with never buy anything in the ground so their day is even cheaper. I suppose it is down to personal choice and financial circumstances but I don't think that watching Championship football in a decent stadium is expensive.
  12. Good news for Bristol hoteliers though - every cloud...
  13. Yes main site seems to have been down for last 20 minutes.
  14. Yes the tickets are quite expensive but these sort of matches don't come up very often. Still a lot cheaper than if we had been drawn away. We also have the (slight) advantage of there being no replay.
  15. We were expecting the Messiah but he just turned out be a naughty little boy. Cool hair, plenty of energy but ultimately a very average player who can tackle a bit but his passing is hit and miss and he can't shoot at all. Bonne Chance a l'avenir!
  16. Ten of us booked hotel in Newcastle months ago. Should be a good boys' weekend - we're all pensioners so the local lasses will no doubt be impressed by a gang of drunken West Country codgers.
  17. Yes definitely in terms of value for money.
  18. It's 1st August which is annoying for me as my birthday is in middle of the month so had to pay adult price for last season.
  19. Tickets for City playing at Coventry BS stadium now on sale so presume licence has been agreed?
  20. The nadir for my City supporting years was that 1-7 loss at Northampton. I thought we were bottom then but clearly not. The away day that season at Hereford (New Year's Day I think) was a cracking trip - left Bristol in the morning for an evening kick-off. Following various pub stops en route we had a good following (many in fancy dress) and won 2-1. 40 years on I can still remember those 4th Division matches despite the beer consumption - I struggle to recall matches played a few months ago though. Living in London at the time I often travelled on the train with Cliff Rhodes and Tony Harling. Both characters in their own way (especially Tony).
  21. And how will Henderson strengthen it? He just runs around aimlessly pointing at people and making the wrong decision - passes when he should shoot and shoots wildly when he should pass. If he didn't play for Liverpool he would be nowhere near the squad.
  22. To be fair, Wiliams was let off the charge as he was deemed to have been defending himself.
  23. Fair play to Mark for being selected but is he really of international standard currently? I thought the bar was set fairly low when O'Dowda was chosen regularly but he looked the more exciting / skillful player although ultimately under performed for us. Hopefully Sykes will gain confidence from the experience and prove me wrong.
  24. My grandad was born in Paradise St, Bedminster in 1885 so may well have watched the team as a lad. He did later play for Bristol Football Club (the old name for the Rugby club) and I have his cap awarded for 1905-06 season.
  25. Not surprising at all that he was booed. After Tony Pulis left us for a "bigger" club ie more money (Portsmouth) part way through the season he would have a plenty of abuse at AG had he returned the same year. In many people's minds it was considered good riddance but at the time I felt let down by him walking out.
