There used to be a "myth"? that sir Alex gradually narrowed the selection of referees that he would tolerate at Old Trafford?
Also referees should move away from this familiarity with players, they're not mates or going for a drink with them afterwards? In Sunak's words professionalism and integrity should play a part and take away any stigma of favouritism.
As the Manchester ship canal wasn't completed until 1893 there probably weren't alot of slave ships directly connected with Manchester. However if the connection is the use of slaves in the production of cotton which was then sent to Manchester then perhaps we should be looking at alternative clothing materials?
Seriously though many civic buildings were built and family wealth was created from the slave trade and it's too easy as a diversion to concentrate on the likes of Bristol rather than admitting that cities and estates all over the country benefitted.
It amused me when their manager's main complaint was that we wasted a bit of time in the first half. He's obviously completely oblivious to all the "crunching" tackles and sh*thouseary his players inflict on their opponents!
Many of our players aren't great at passing the ball but more frustrating sometimes is when we get so far up the pitch on the wings then go inside where all the defensive traffic is and lose the ball straight away.
You have the situation when a linesman can put up his flag when a player is in an offside position but sometimes only reacts if a "goal" is scored. So blatant fouls are disregarded because in hindsight they happened after a player was deemed to be in an offside position. I think that this gives the defenders a free hit to get away with murder if they anticipate the offside.
Forest penalty turned down by VAR after ball hits Maguire's arm. Should we be surprised, would it have been a penalty at the other end? Maguire already on a yellow, presumably a penalty would have given him a second yellow card.
What do I know?
Just looking at our results since boxing day and out of 23 matches we've only lost 5, 1 to Manchester City and 4 in the league from the beginning of March so overall pretty good progress. More draws could have been wins (with or without the officials).
