About Creg

  1. Carabao Cup TV games

Is that noted Bristol City fan Richard Scudamore? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Scudamore#Personal_life
  2. Midfield

I wouldn't put it all on Pato (although, I agree, he was anonymous for most of the game) - Pack and Smith's inability to either win balls in the air or keep possession were our main downfall last night. We're distinctly lacking a bruiser to break up play in the middle of the park.
  3. Public Transport to Brentford

  4. Pretty sure FIFA have outlawed this - stemming from Courtious at Athletico against (his then club) Chelsea and the clause not being enforceable. Still wouldn't stop us having a 'gentlemen's agreement' with Birmingham for exactly that purpose though, I suppose. It's just the fact that if they reneged, we wouldn't have a leg to stand on, legally.
  5. LA announce new manager in, erm, interesting way

Maybe they've learned their lessons from the franchises constantly moving in search of more money? As an example, the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers were originally the Minneapolis Lakers - being named after the famous bodies of water in the area - before relocating in 1961 to Los Angeles where there are almost no lakes at all. God, it's a slow Friday isn't it?
  6. The new training kit (Merged again)

Just a quick observation, but it looks like children's typefaces are the font du jour in the Prem as well. Nice to see we're a part of the in crowd at least.
  7. Does anyone know if there will be coverage of the pre season games through the new BCTV platform? Whilst I appreciate that they're likely to be dross, the lack of games has got me antsy once again. My memory is defeating me as to whether the old BC Player offered the option, but even a crackly audio stream would be a welcome break from doing housework and longingly gazing out of the window for the remaining Saturdays until the season kicks off. Plus, it would be nice to see how the youngsters we signed get on before we inevitably ship them out on loan to an underperforming league one side for the rest of the year.
  8. Tim Shires sacked?

Happy for you to disagree with me there mate. Personal insults aside, I'll explain why I think Downsy is a TERRIBLE choice to take on all the roles that he is slated to do so in Tim's absence, many of which have been mentioned time and time again on this forum. Perhaps even, if you look, on this very thread! - He, by his own admission, knows or cares very little for football. - Unlike Tim's, his social media presence holds little to no interaction with any Bristol City fans (28 tweets mentioning the words 'Ashton Gate' & 42 tweets [that's less than 1 per game for last season alone] mentioning the club in 8 years) and is mostly his political views, promotion of his radio show, or generic retweets . I accept that he is entitled to these but even myself, as a no-mark in terms of fame, have to watch what I say in the risk of bringing my workplace into disrepute. "Oh Bore Off" directed at a well known public figure may not go down too well with the higher ups should it come to their attention. Especially if Bristol Sport realises the national reach that it intends to. - His horrendous 'banter' at half time, including continued attempts at getting the home crowd to cheer wildly for the visitors and announcing the attendances at "Ashton Gate Stadium" with the vigour of someone watching their team win the Champions League final. - His Alan Partridge radio presenting style and awful taste in music from my (limited) exposure to Sam FM - something which could result in more booming bass coming through our already sterling PA system for the hour preceding the game. - Most of all, his insinuation that a young girl only attended the game to stare at the players legs. Something like that, regardless of workplace, would be unacceptable in any other walk of life and beggars belief how he got away with it. God only knows if he'll slip up again For the record, I'm entirely on board with the Bristol Sport model. I think we (as a supporter base) owe Steve Lansdown more respect than he gets for continually choosing to back the club especially financially during his stewardship of BCFC. It makes a lot of business sense to amalgamate most of the teams, many of whom are neglected financially outside of the model, under an umbrella company. Not least of all their incredibly interesting approach to spotting youth talent before many of the big clubs that operate in this area poach them as the have been.
  9. Tim Shires sacked?

"Thanks for your feedback Ian. You're a very decent bloke, and learned a lot last year, but after a full year of stick in your job we don't feel that it's going to work out."
  10. Tim Shires sacked?

I heard Downsy designed the new training shirt...
  11. Tim Shires sacked?

Genuinely gutting news. The fact that I'm London-based has been a blessing from the dross that 'Downsy' has been peddling at half time on my few trips back to the Gate last season. Tim has been fantastic (for his entire time with us) at engaging fans across social media and we'll be a worse club without him, especially if the cringeworthy pseudo-American half time hype speeches increase in greater number. @Tim S - thanks for everything mate. You'll be missed at the club, more than you or they know, I expect.
  12. As I understand it, it's a "gentleman's agreement" between Sky, BT, and the FA to encourage punters to actually attend the games. It was driven by some of the smaller clubs' chairmen but there's nothing in law or the rules about it. I'd imagine it's more to create a single point of reference for the Bristol Sport ventures. It's a lot easier (not to mention cost effective) to manage all of these streams in one area. Wouldn't surprise me if the Flyers and the rugby got their own versions of 'BCTV' before too long.
  13. Eros Pisano - "Spotted" - Now Signed!

I've heard exactly this from someone normally pretty good with what they get out of the club; Pisano and two more (no idea who, mind) to be announced at the end of next week to coincide with the players coming back from their break.
  14. "He's literally on fire!" (No he's not. Jamie Redknapp - I'm looking in your direction) "2-0 is the most dangerous scoreline in football" "At the end of the day..." - This also applies to work
  15. City's young players

Great point. It is worth noting though that there aren't many bigger teams (except maybe Swansea and *shudder* Cardiff) than us in our wider catchment area of Gloucs, Somerset and South Wales and we've still missed out on Eric Dier (from Cheltenham), Jack Butland (Clevedon), Nathan Dyer (Trowbridge). I've heard that Bristol Sport are running sports events at schools and with local teams with our youth scouts in attendance, trying to identify talent at an even earlier stage than we do now in an effort to stop instances like the above happening. However, I know that Southampton shop for talent around our neck of the woods regularly, evensofar as having a base in Bath, and it's questionable how we'll compete with them in the long term.
