  1. To clarify yes its a lazy expression but it's basically a lack of respect I mean. Has been more evident in football where there has been some horrific incidents with local league referees. But it's across all sports, all workplaces, everywhere in society. If guys are getting to the point of cheating and mass brawling about a game then they may as well forget the cricket go straight in the bar, make up the scores while sinking a few then have a proper dust up in the car park after. Cricket/rugby/football/horseracing. Red or blue, in or out. Its just a shit show all round was my (obvious, I know) point, and that isn't close to what sport is about. Particularly topical for me, partly as 1st season in 30 I haven't been able to play.
  2. Shameful. If cricket is "getting like football" (and it is) then we're only at the beginning of a slide where we'll see more scenes like this. The ECB has apparently spent a fair bit on legal fees & lawyers with new discipline codes, and Recreational Cricket Discipline Officers being employed. All sticking plasters on the symptoms, not the causes, IMO. As with most things in this country, amateur cricket needs overhauling.
  3. Don't know what he has done & he's obviously gone off rails but was reading recently how in '89 at a pre Wimbledon tournament I think he donated his entire winnings to the Hillsborough support fund. Wealth & celebrity seem to be a toxic combination.
  4. The brains behind out sport need to realise its the entire game, starting with the amateur leagues and clubs that need overhauling, and it's this narrow, top heavy view that's hindering genuine progress. The institutions, attitudes & people running cricket are still stuck in the 50s. Until that changes all we'll have to discuss is the next new arrangement of deckchairs.
  5. Yes apols - you've been one of my favourite posters for years and I realised you had a valid point, and not shaming. The bit I highlighted I think is key. If I've had a couple of nights of rough sleep I definitely find life harder. If you're under the pressures you mention bad decisions are easily made, and compounded. Absolutely enraged this slime not only got away with it, but continued with his crimes after his 5 month term.
  6. I know what you're saying but that's an incredibly harsh word for women that were targeted, professionally manipulated by a highly skilled & experienced psychopath, sociopath & God knows what else. Any study should of course be done on how we produce wastes of oxygen like Leviev and how the hell we allow them to get away with it. Even after they're banged to rights.
  7. Didn't realise that was Tranmere's tactic! Good example of how clever u need to be to succeed?
  8. Would love Yate to do so, always had a soft spot for them and Lodge Road. Forest Green & Cheltenham, a bit further away, have shown its possible.
  9. I've perhaps misjudged Agnew's piece, but I'm not sure he believes that is what should happen, rather as a bit of a grenade/talking point. He also points out where responsibilities lie during this debacle of a tour
  10. Exactly! He played at Lords with Goatacre too in the Village final - top sportsman
  11. Rosey was an an immaculate old school centre half, greased up perm, great in the air, scored a goal or 2 but excellent captain who organised well I wouldn't have wanted to be on the wrong end of one of his rollickings. Nigel was a great foil, shorter & stockier, quieter but read the game ever so well. They may both still be on the tools too! I bet . I remember them being ever present for seasons also Gather Melksham have done well but not a club I hold interest in. Chippenham went up a level or 2? And have stayed up? They were the old Great Mills prem, with Melksham, Devizes, Calne etc below. Both have achieved as the facility standard jump from Western to Southern was difficult let alone the standard.
  12. Never quite made the 1st round, lost 1-0 at Newport iow in 4th qualifier, think that's the one u mean? Season or 2 before took Martin O'Neil s Wycombe to replay (3rdor4th qual) losing in 97th minute. Frome Road under John Murphy (88 to 93?) was the best value £3 you could spend. Loud and colourful crowds, 4 2 4 attacking with the fittest team about. Freeguard was key man in that team often. Adie Harris, Mark Adams(from Larkhall?) Danny Iddles (from Yate), Paul Rose, Nigel Tripp, Marcus Bray and too briefly Dave Dennison, brother of Wolves' Robbie. Jeff Meacham, Graham Withey brief spells. Saw Mark Lawrenson as pl/man of Corby, and Alan Brazil scored for Bury St Edmonds as pl/man but lost 5-1. Murphy left when he saw no progress off field and it was a slow inevitable death after that including a season or 2 with Twerton as home ground. They had a great deal with Beazer Homes, their sponsor, who would purchase current & build new ground. Nothing like that happens in Trowbridge, tescos blocked Sainsburys buying ground it's now houses 90-91 season promotion from Southern to Premier (2nd) Vase semi final defeat to Guiseley & league Cup semi final. In April they played around 20 games. 2 subs then. One of first games in Premier League we beat Burton Albion 9-0. They had to wear our white kit. Watched the likes of Crawley, Rushden, Cheltenham at Frome Road. They went one way, we went the opposite. Happy, happy days though
  13. Radio 5 live now discussing among other things Premier league players wages. Seems the club captains are already discussing details of pay cut but want some control/assurances of what happens to this large pot, how does it get used for good.
  14. Should hope its on catchup but im never too sure! Really like listening to Simon Jordan, but haven't listened to him since this began, will endeavour to as have plenty of time. But Warburton came across so, so well to my ears. I'd be comfortable with someone like that in a more influential position than QPR manager.
  15. Radio 5 debate on the Coronavirus and its affects on football now (started at 8), especially in light of Tottenham's announcement. Really impressed with Mark Warburton.
  16. Have a friend (works on public transport) who was hospitalized early Nov with breathing difficulties plus flu like symptons. And a Surgery nurse who suspects its been here pre Xmas. Could be a virus other than Covid 19 of course, while it wouldnt surprise me if it was C-19. If it has been around in part longer im hoping that would lessen its impact.
