  1. This runs much deeper than whether NP is up to the job. Nobody we appoint to the job ever seems up to it at Tier 2 level. The club seems dysfunctional at its core. Although I do wonder if Nige is basically not a well man since his first bout of COVID and is struggling to exert himself or care enough.
  2. Too many people being offensive and too many people being over-sensitive to offence. The stupidity of modern times can be measured by the number of apologies being issued. Anyway, come on you Reds! (apologies to any reactionaries who may be offended by my apparent call to Communism)
  3. I wish Nige all the best and hope he is well soon. But it just adds to the mounting evidence that this club is cursed.
  4. My top suggestion for SL is to rename the High Performance Centre to something less laughable.
  5. It is possible to be a decent person who believes in social justice and at the same time despair at political correctness.
  6. Great thread. This really is a Premier League forum. Getting a bit silly now though Major.
  7. Already losing count of the number of times I’ve read or heard the words “back”, “monkey”, “our” and “off”. I’m betting that Nige or the interviewer says it in the PM interview.
  8. Can’t believe how amateurish those press conferences were. Looks like they employed local primary school kids to do the display boards in the background.
  9. It is ridiculous to want Pearson sacked if we lose on Saturday. It is ridiculous to regard scraping safety as an achievement. Can we please move to the middle ground a bit. It’s quite a big space to fit in everyone’s rational opinions.
  10. I think we can reasonably have higher expectations of NP than that. If that is his personal target then we really are in trouble.
  11. That’s what my 12th wife said
  12. It’s good that we have moved away from an era where players had fish and chips for lunch before a game, a couple of ciggies at halftime and a pint of milk at the end of the match. Rennie obviously knows his stuff and it’s good to see a professional approach to fitness with technology and data. But I do wonder if things are starting to get over-complicated with too much fine detail possibly clouding the bigger picture. Players may start to avoid taking a risk in a game (the sort of thing that can make a game exciting to watch) because they know it may affect their performance statistics. There is such a thing as paralysis by analysis.
  13. In a game, if you try some flicks, long through passes and dramatic overhead bicycle kicks then by the law of averages a few of them will come off over a season and that is what is remembered by those who witness it. You forget the majority of failed attempts. To be consistently skilled so that it consistently pays off requires practice, practice, practice, practice, practice….. There is no skill gene.
  14. That sort of analysis sounds familiar. There must be a link between us last season and Ipswich this season. I wonder what it is.
  15. Yes, very impressive interviews.
  16. Yes, I hope we never become top six in the PL. It would bore me to tears. ?
  17. It’s called unfounded optimism. Many City fans have it in their DNA.
  18. I’ve tried so hard to give a mature and balanced opinion of Ashton and that he couldn’t be as bad as people on here make him out to be. But that video confirms it. The man is an absolute d***head.
  19. Can I attempt a consensus view: he did well to establish us as a top half championship club he was very committed to City and genuinely did his best his persona was a bit irritating he lost the plot eventually and had to go
  20. Let’s assume both City and Sunderland are in the Championship next season. Imagine City home to Sunderland early in the season and assume spectators are allowed back in the stadium. The players are out and the game is soon to start. LJ walks out of the tunnel to take his place on the bench, What reaction does he get from the AG faithful? Score it on a scale from 1 to 100: 1 = vitriolic abuse and rotten tomatoes thrown at him 100 = rapturous applause and a rendition of “for he’s a jolly good fellow” I reckon a 65.
  21. I reckon LJ isn’t a bad manager. Just needs to cut out the David Brent persona, keep things simpler (including interviews), add a bit of gravitas and he could achieve things.
