VAR - If this is the future of football

Add to that the subjective nature of the decisions. In cricket a ball will or will not hit the stumps, in tennis the ball is or is not out. Football so much is debateable. France’s penalty today was a classic example, ask 10 people and I reckon you would have a fairly even split of pen and not pen. I changed my mind on it twice! I can’t see how it works for those decisions. He didn’t give it, then he gave it.... but both decisions some of us will be unhappy with. If it is to be part of the game then it should only serve to eliminate howlers.

I agree Altho the idea being if you get the decision right you keep the review. Would add some pressure to managers too

VAR - If this is the future of football

I think there are too many reviews so far and I agree the ref running to the side is a faff but there is some promise. The pen for Peru for instance. I just think it could be implemented differently. Technology Works well in cricket. Why not give the manager 2 reviews in a game on the key decisions (pens, offside for goals, red cards etc). Appeal wrongly and lose a review, ran out of reviews then shouldn’t have wasted them. Decisions can only be changed for obvious errors (which I’m not convinced the France pen was). Also include the crowd in the decision as it happens on the screens with commentary, made by external ref with a lot of views (so no ref running to the touch line to watch it on a cheap tele!). An issue is managers using tactical reviews as well (doing one in 93rd min as you lead 1-0) but it can be done a little better than it is

    World Cup Fantasy Football

Sorry if this is covered above but have it read it correctly that you can freely bring in players from your bench as long as it’s before they play each game week (of course losing the substituted players points for the week)? And same with captain? With this in mind, assuming you can remember to do it, does it make sense to pick all your players who are playing earliest then sub them if they are have a Diony? Its more complex that normal FPL!

England players ask for Love Island to be shown in their bedrooms

Maybe that’s the plot for the next jurrasic Park film..... would liven it up!

    Bournemouth friendly announced

7pm kick off too I believe. For those of us who work away it makes it pretty much impossible to get back for.

Just hoping a pre-season friendly against West Brom isn’t announced!

Championship next season- stronger or weaker?

Villa are in big trouble financially allegedly and Derby also will lose a lot of their best players (along with having a manager unknown at this level). I think all 3 relegated sides will find it tough going first year down especially if they lose a lot of their best players as expected. Of the promoted sides Blackburn could do well but I would be surprised if anything better than top 10. I think Wigan and Rotherham would both be pleased to avoid relegation battle. Expect a Pulis Boro side to be v strong in his second season but outside of that I think the division should be easier. A lot of last season champ clubs (such as us, Villa and Norwich) are likely to lose their top players this summer so much will depend on how it is reinvested. But I don’t see anyone having the spending power of wolves and villa over last couple of years. It could be a very open and exciting season!

Looking forward to the World Cup ?

I like how optimistic I am now ahead of the tournament every time. Then watch us fail, promise I will not let myself get drawn in by the hype around England again then next World Cup comes round and am certain we will win it! I look at our squad objectively and think no chance but then think - well Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in the world, Pickford can play out from the back, Trent A-A burst onto the scene and we have lots of pace etc, our group is very achievable (second at very least) and then once in the knock out rounds you never know! Am so senselessly optimistic and still will be after the inevitable 0-0 drawn with Tunisia!! Certainly makes the close season so much more exciting though! As an aside I am excited to see the greatest international attack vs defence duel since Pele vs Moore when Messi takes on Mags!

    Goal of the Season vote

I watched the goals and then genuinely re-read the page to make sure it wasn’t a two parter!
