    Tomlin on loan to Posh

“We will need to work on his match fitness, but he looked in great shape physically today” said Steve Evans of their meeting at the KFC drive through......

    Rate The Performance - #1: Millwall (H)

I thought for an hour, although far from an exciting performance, we were in control of the game. From hour mark until they scored we looked terrified and they were all over us. Last 10 was fine. Overall average display 5/10. I thought the boos at the end were harsh. It was 4/10 better than Preston! As an aside 2 shots on target between last 2 home games. Shocking.

FIFA to introduce loan limits (Merged)

This seems to not solve the problem at all and just make more issues. The fact that they cannot loan players out will not stop Man City or Chelsea stockpiling the best youngsters. They will just keep them playing under 23s football all season. They would lose out on loan fees etc but I imagine these are only significant (in premier league terms) in the odd case anyway. It would of stop young players getting competitive football too. Look at our lads out on loan now, will get much better experience than if they were playing in our under 23s. Fifa just don’t seem to understand the sport at all!
  5. Great analysis. As an aside noticed on skybet Wigan are shorter odds for promotion (and longer for relegation) than us or Swansea, they are longer odds for relegation than Forest (they are 28/1 foreat 25/1) I don’t think they will go down but those odds seem crazy. Back on topic I think the DP above has it about right, a win would be a fantastic result, with a draw being a decent one.

    Football commentary on radio

I had the same issue. Basically think it’s online is the issue so you have to “tune in” rather than use the net. The difficulty with paying the £45 is that with an ST you attend all home (when free) anyway, then do a lot of away. Add to that the amount you get on sky. Means you could pay £45 to listen to 3 or 4 games that you are able to listen to over the season which is pretty pricey! I don’t believe they do a pay per game which is a shame.

Jack Marriott signs for Derby (Merged)

Haha very true. Not even got on the bench so far this season! Have a feeling that may change Sunday though.

Jack Marriott signs for Derby (Merged)

Has played 13 mins for Derby in the league so far (on the bench every game). Highlights the difference in spending power that they can spend £5mish on a striker and then not pick him.

We lack the courage to fail

I completely get the concept behind possession football. Gets players more confident on the ball and wears down the opposition etc. Also it’s nice to watch. But you are completely right we seem to lack the courage to do it where it matters. On Saturday so much of our 60odd% possession was Niki passing to Kelly and Webster. Who in turn pass it back to him, who plays it to the other centre back. This doesn’t tire out an opposition who is winning as they don’t bother to chase any of it. It also doesn’t make players more confident on the ball as Webster, Niki and Kelly are not playing it in the attacking half. All the opposition like Boro do is sit in their defensive lines and wait. To make it work when level or behind we need to be playing it in their half and getting it forward much faster.

Did quality of football influence your support?

I’m probably quite different to most, and may fall into the glory hunter category, in that I grew up in Gillingham and went for years with my dad for years at Priestfield. Moved to Bristol when I was 18 and been here ever since. When I was about 22 the only place I could afford to buy a house was in novers Park/knowle West, missing live football I started going to AG and not stopped going since then.

Worse than Mags for sure and has been poor since injuries as said above. I do think last night was a tough assignment tho! Played out of position against Ladapo who is built like a tank. Pisano (live everyone until Webster came on) was simply not physically strong enough to deal with him. It was a game where we needed big centre halves. I assume Jens is injured (same with Wright) but it would have been much easier for them in that game.

    Throw ins

Completely agree re throw ins. Amazes me that at every level it is now rare teams can do throw ins to feet. It also always feels to me that when the ball goes out it takes ages to come back in. I do sometimes think we take the wrong options on set pieces for the sake of playing better football. First corner on Saturday led to the goal (and o’dowda Nearly scored in same move), second corner we did a rubbish short corner routine.... why not put the ball in there as clearly a weakness for forest.... third one we did and pack’s header cleared off the line. I felt the same for all our set pieces that are say 40/50 yards out, we are keen to get down and play, which I like, but you have to play to your strengths and against the other teams weaknesses (and forest clearly poor on set pieces).

I think the issue with Korey and Marlon playing together is it’s not a central midfield that scores enough goals. Pack had to play yesterday as the rest of the midfielders and strikers were all tiny and I assume brownhill picked above Korey as he is a bigger goal threat (Altho of course not as good of a ball winning midfielder). Ultimately I think all 3 will rotate all season and competition in that area is a v good thing. Far better than brownhill being parked out of position on the right.

    Own Goal?

Won £70 on first goal scorer so they better leave it with him!! Thankfully i think they changed the rules last season anyway so those that bounce in off the keepers back from the woodwork count as a goal for the player who struck the ball.
