Did quality of football influence your support?

I’m probably quite different to most, and may fall into the glory hunter category, in that I grew up in Gillingham and went for years with my dad for years at Priestfield. Moved to Bristol when I was 18 and been here ever since. When I was about 22 the only place I could afford to buy a house was in novers Park/knowle West, missing live football I started going to AG and not stopped going since then.

Worse than Mags for sure and has been poor since injuries as said above. I do think last night was a tough assignment tho! Played out of position against Ladapo who is built like a tank. Pisano (live everyone until Webster came on) was simply not physically strong enough to deal with him. It was a game where we needed big centre halves. I assume Jens is injured (same with Wright) but it would have been much easier for them in that game.

    CONFIRMED Transfer day deals

That’s the trouble with trying to buy camping gear this time of year.....

    Throw ins

Completely agree re throw ins. Amazes me that at every level it is now rare teams can do throw ins to feet. It also always feels to me that when the ball goes out it takes ages to come back in. I do sometimes think we take the wrong options on set pieces for the sake of playing better football. First corner on Saturday led to the goal (and o’dowda Nearly scored in same move), second corner we did a rubbish short corner routine.... why not put the ball in there as clearly a weakness for forest.... third one we did and pack’s header cleared off the line. I felt the same for all our set pieces that are say 40/50 yards out, we are keen to get down and play, which I like, but you have to play to your strengths and against the other teams weaknesses (and forest clearly poor on set pieces).

I think the issue with Korey and Marlon playing together is it’s not a central midfield that scores enough goals. Pack had to play yesterday as the rest of the midfielders and strikers were all tiny and I assume brownhill picked above Korey as he is a bigger goal threat (Altho of course not as good of a ball winning midfielder). Ultimately I think all 3 will rotate all season and competition in that area is a v good thing. Far better than brownhill being parked out of position on the right.

    Own Goal?

Won £70 on first goal scorer so they better leave it with him!! Thankfully i think they changed the rules last season anyway so those that bounce in off the keepers back from the woodwork count as a goal for the player who struck the ball.

Pre Season - Excitement or slight dismay?

Completely agree. Improved league position for last 4 seasons. Our weakness was lack of championship games experience and we have addressed that along with adding height in the midfield area. The younger players (like Eliasson) will also be a year better. Would I prefer bobby was still here? Yes of course. But lots of reasons for optimism.
  8. Looking at them if I was the father I would have been asking for some DNA tests!

Djuric - Signed for Salernitana CONFIRMED

Arguably our most important goal of that season. Without it I fear we would have gone down, Chants of “you don’t know what you’re doing” when lj brought him on for Tammy. If he wants to stay (and I think that’s a big if as he is a 28 year old international who will start on the bench most weeks) then a definite keep for me.

    Ronaldo to Juve

There was an interesting article someone posted on this. Highlighting how shirt sales etc paying for a player is an urban legend. The clubs make such little money on them. Also it’s unlikely to increase actual sales significantly. Just means those they do sell will have Ronaldo on the back rather than Higuain. I expect it does increase media exposure for sponsors to pay more etc. But £73k a day (and that’s ignoring the fee) is a lot more!!! He is an undoubted great of the current generation, one of the best ever, but signing him until he is 37 for that money seems so so much.

    Cheltenham v Bristol City

I agree. My only issue with him is that he looks a bit like Callum (from afar) and wore number 11 so I thought O’Dowda had lost a stone of muscle over the summer until I realised it was Holden!

    Cheltenham v Bristol City

He looked like an excellent, albeit v small, footballer. I think another season on loan (maybe league one) would be better for him than staying here and only playing league cup etc.

    Cheltenham v Bristol City

He was very good. For the first 20 mins all our best stuff went through him. Excellent assist for matty’s goal. Swapped with Eliasson all have and looks like he can play off both feet. Is a unit as well, must be 6ft 2. You can see far post headers from him next season. Frankie was trying to play football more it seemed to me. Hopefully something he has worked hard on over the summer as really that is people’s main issue with him. Wollacott looked so nervous and there was only a few hundred of us there. Needs a season or 2 in men’s football like you say.

    Cheltenham v Bristol City

Enjoyed it tonight. Good run out for the first 11 then the youngsters looked ok at the end. A few things I thought: 1. Eliasson was electric tonight. Scrappy first but seemed to give him so much confidence. Second was nicely taken and nearly had a hat trick. Had the full backs on toast all evening! I appreciate its Cheltenham but did look like there is a player in there. 2. Pisano looked shot to pieces. He was dire and looked the player at the end of last season rather than the start. The own goal was a bad one too! Djuric also looked off the pace although he spent most of his time out there as the only adult looking after the kids. 3. Wollacot looked super nervous. Needs a long loan in non league next season. I did like that a load of people around me blamed Frankie for the second goal even when he was sat on the bench for it! 4. Taylor Moore has bulked out and looked better for it. 5. I thought Morrell seemed to have some quality in him.

Djuric - Signed for Salernitana CONFIRMED

It’s a difficult one. I genuinely wouldn’t want to see him leave as he is a great impact player who causes teams real issues. However I wouldn’t want him in first 11 as we become very route one when he is on the pitch (not his fault) and he severely lacks mobility. Ultimately he is 28, an international footballer, is he really going to be happy playing 20 mins every week? I can see why this would happen.
