I suppose a game against Wigan is rarely a classic especially on a hot day but that was pretty dire. Some positives to take are a point(!!), Weimann, Atkinson and Sykes… Conway was also encouraging. So close to scoring. And nobody gave away a daft goal. Not much we could do about their goal, it was a great ball in and it caused chaos. Negatives are we are absolutely shocking at retaining the ball, so sloppy in possession it’s getting annoying. No urgency, no press and we haven’t really improved a lot. It was hot but we desperately need to improve. For gods sake stop soiling your pants like we’re playing Real Madrid. Put your foot on the ball and calm down… that seemed to be the half time message but it lasted about 10 minutes. ?

I actually thought we let him go a little too soon. I would’ve liked to have seen him given a go at Championship level for us. What a talent! ?

We are miles better than we were at the beginning of the season. We actually try to attack teams. Let’s not forget just how bad we were. We are so much better at holding onto the ball. Unfortunately we still can’t do a lot with it and regularly mess it up in promising positions. A lot of our attacks just fizzle into nothing. The difference today was that we were pretty weak defensively and they were pretty solid.

Top class from Benik. And still a top quality player who was a threat for them all game. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything like it either. What a shame we didn’t hold onto him.

Good to see him on the pitch at the end getting some love from Matty James etc. I thought his ball retention is something we’ve been missing. He also hit a smashing cross-field ball which didn’t quite make it but encouraging signs for me. I thought the crowd hassled him into playing forward when there weren’t enough options. He’s a kid. Give him time and support!

First half was terrible. We can’t turn up for a stroll in the park against anyone, let alone Millwall. Second half much better. Massengo gave us the bite we were missing. Hats off to Afobe, what a class guy. Millwall don’t deserve him but that oooohhhh thing is great for shutting down opposition fans so we should adopt it. I also liked that they had some conductors/hype men in their crowd keeping it going. Praise the lord for Weimann! ?

Great first touch and control from him yesterday and he gave us a platform to get up the pitch which has been lacking.

We were really good in the first half. We played through them a few times and should have been 3 up. Second half was poor. Our ball retention is dreadful and is something we have to fix ASAP. Vyner was the worst offender for needlessly giving it away. But a very welcome 3 points.

I think first half we had lots of energy and hassled them into mistakes but second half we sat off and let them play. We don’t hold onto the ball at all well enough and constantly give it away cheaply. Joe Williams was a plus and we didn’t concede late so that was a bonus.

Doesn’t work for me either. ? Hopefully big Nige isn’t relying on it.
