Or you sell him for £30 million and accept 3 x £10 million in staged payments. Therefore still able to use the last payment for accounting ffp in 5 years time.

I'm afraid that's not the way it'd work. The sale is accounted for in the P/L in the year it happens, therefore staging payments impacts cashflow but not the ffp calculations currently.

  2. Last night to me highlighted the differences between having a high risk/low risk player in that middle of the defense. In previous games we have been more able to cut lines/play through the middle due to Naismith's willingness to take a risk in stepping out or playing a through ball to cut the lines in the middle of the park. As has been noted many times, this has a propensity to go wrong and give away good chances to the opposition, but on the other hand it makes us more incisive in attack (High risk/high reward). Compare that to when King played in that role tonight who very much took a low risk approach to the role and meant that as a team we were constantly playing from one side of the pitch to the other trying to get around coventry rather than through (hence the 40+ crosses), low risk passes which didn't give away as many opportunities but also we struggled to create anything clear cut ourselves.

Obviously this is just an observation on one position and the team as a whole didn't function as well as it has done in attack tonight, but as mentioned before on this thread, that risk-taking from deep has been a feature of the good and bad in our play this season, if Naismith is injured for a few games that will certainly change the way we operate.

  3. He's made a massive difference to the team in possession, having a central defender so good on the ball has completely changed our ability to keep possession and construct attacks.

I think there's a bit of memory loss from some on here about how different we were in possession for much of last season, so much passing back and forth along the back 3 before a channel ball to Martin because we couldn't find out midfield. Now Naismith is not the only one responsible for the change but he's made a big difference. He's allowed us to play the system the way Nige wants it to be played in possession and that is massive for the team.

Having said that, he does and probably will continue to give away one big chance per game due to the additional risks he takes. Personally I'm fine with that because of the bigger picture of how our play has progressed (it's so much nicer to watch us already this year). Also realistically, if he could bring his quality without these mistakes, he wouldn't be with us as there's no way we could have afforded him.

  4. They've let me through there before on the bike when my brother had my ST and he was on the other side, so I think they are reasonable if you talk to them nicely. Maybe they are more protective of it because it's the players/staff parking and entrance.

I’m hoping they see that light when we put a contract in front of them.  Andi Weimann has showed that it can be done.  The big problem is us gambling that they will next summer, rather than bugger off elsewhere for a similar wage.

I do think with Weimann the stars aligned a little for us. Firstly the fact that it was peak pandemic and clubs had significantly reduced revenue. Secondly he'd come back from a long term injury that season which created some uncertainty about his continued ability to perform given the physicality of the fane. Thirdly we must remember that his time with us up to that point, whilst I think he was a very good player for us, he had not reached the hights that he did last season. Therefore I do think that it is probably more difficult to do deals like that now, the exception being Kalas maybe as he is injured and has not been standout for us over the last year or so. Having said that, it'd have to be a hell of a paycut. At a rumoured £25k pw, I'm not sure I'd want to pay more than half that going forward.

The analogy is he’s had to knock down the building to relay the foundations.  It takes time.  Just because they’re his players, doesn’t mean they are who he’d ideally get if he different funds available to him.  He’s scrapping around free transfer and Lg1 / Lg2 players (also on frees).  He can’t generate transfer funds from Vyner, Moore, etc…nor can he generate them from Wells, etc, because they won’t forego their huge wages (allegedly).  Without transfer money, we are a huge loss making entity.  The answer to that it to cut costs in the playing side…which he’s done.

Sometimes you have to go backwards (summer 2022) to go forwards (end of last season).  Oh, let’s shit the bed because we’ve lost the first two games.

He is working with a thin squad with little depth , because the finances won’t allow it to be thin, but with depth / cover.

    He took over a mess.

Yes, results are frustrating…but he hasn’t taken the club backwards…he’s rebuilding it with RG.

    This, this and this again!

Slow progress is frustrating as a fan, but it's so necessary for our club to go through this process. We cannot know yet whether NP will be looked back on as a success or failure yet as we are yet to see the results of all the changes he's put in place.

I'm personally still undecided on whether he's a good manager in terms of the football played, but I think (subjectivity) I've seen progress on the pitch over his tenure even if results haven't been good to start this season.

I posted last season that I saw a 'good' spell as manager for NP would be to keep us up last season (tick), improve and get into top half this season without relegation worry, and a playoff push next season. In my view, unless we significantly deviate from that, there's no point in sacking him and ripping up the planned rebuild we are going through.

If he can take us back to where we were under LJ (results-wise, not style-wise) as regular contenders for playoff spots, but with a significantly better run and more sustainable club behind the scenes and a better team culture then I think that whoever takes over (or if NP extends) will be in a really good position.

Just a shame yesterday at AG that someone decided to tell Lauren Smith that women belong in the kitchen and not at the football.

Sad but unsurprising unfortunately given some of the comments seen here after the euros win last week.

After the 2021-22 campaign saw less playing time than ever before, referees will also be more proactive in curbing time-wasting and will be prepared to sanction players early on in the game.Participation behaviour will also be strongly managed to ensure incidents of dissent and other poor behaviour are stamped out.

Really hope that they do crack down on this, it frustrates me so much! I know it's seen as 'good game management' these days as if it's something to be applauded. But as a paying spectator, it really does ruin the spectacle of what you come to see; two teams actually playing football against each other!

Great post. Like you say we're at different points of the boat sinking, but I loved the descriptive nature of your post.

So, player unrest (Sproule at Plymouth, Tyreeq here), spanked in the lead up to dismissal Donny 5-2, Jet Masterclass iirc vs Fulham 6-2) and a crunch game vs our rivals we got spanked 6-0 in Jan the season GJ went).

We've a very outspoken manager, who can only seem to play one style of football (GJ and NP) and appears to like 'phrases' (golf clubs vs on the bus)

Lack of striking options (Haynes vs Martin), reliance on youth (Danny Wilson blooded lot vs current) after rubbish signings (Styvar vs Simpson) who added nothing.

There's loads of similarities between the two.

GJ was 2 wins in 10 before dismissal, NP is 2 wins in 10 now afaik.

I could go on. Feels like we've been here before and sadly a bad loss vs Cardiff and I fear it may be curtains for NP.

Sorry that you think that it's some kind of obsession, however the above is the situation and unlike others I dont think NP is working currently. You are quite welcome to disagree as it is about opinions.

3 wins, 2 draws, 5 losses in the last 10. 9 of which were league games, so 11 points from 9 which is pretty much par for our season and keeps us safe and solidly mid table. I think most of us would taken that at the start of this season as long as the performances slowly improve. In my opinion they have been improving recently, and even more importantly in comparison to the start of the season I'm starting to enjoy games at AG again.

It's not too much fun being lower mid table, but it's where we are as a club. Where I'll be concerned is if we are still where we are now in the 23/24 season.

A successful 3 year project for me would look something like: safe early and mid table this season with some good young player development. Top half next season with less inconsistency in performance, followed by a playoff push the year after.

So to clarify... In my opinion now is completely the wrong time to be thinking about changing the manager.

  10. Over the last few years (mostly players under Johnson ironically) we could have had a great hoof-ball 11.

    4-4-2 (Obviously)

    Maenpaa - 6ft 3

    Wright 6ft - Flint 6ft 5 - Baker 6ft 2 - Magnússon 6 ft 3 + Long throw bonus for long ball kudos

    Brownhill 5ft 11 - Pack 6ft 2 - Jens Hegeler 6ft 4 - O'dowda 6ft

    Djuric 6ft 6 - Abraham - 6ft 3

Now admittedly all those players weren't together at the same time, and they would have probably played like shit (Hegeler - Pack midfield 2 anyone?) but still, set piece threat!

Yes but your not allowed to mention it! Basically if these channels picked the best person for their roles no women would be involved and that's just not allowed in today's woke world!

Yeah because Michael Owen or Robbie Savage are so much more knowledge and charismatic than Alex Scott for example... At least the latter can be bothered to do some research for the games she is on rather than trotting out tired old clichés.

I agree Eni Aluko wasn't great, but look, now 3 people have expressed that opinion in this public forum alone... No one has died, no one has been cancelled, no one has been arrested... Stop wetting the bed with your political agendas.
