  1. Antarctica 2009/10 on a Finnish built, Russian owned ice breaker on charter to an American expedition company. From Stanley, in the Falklands around Antarctica coast, with landings at the "Golden Age" huts, to New Zealand.
  2. Is it now that after learning his trade at former clubs MA is just the bean counter and the recruitment is down to knowledgeable personnel within Ipswich FC and his involvement is on the financial aspects of trading where he royally f*cked up at Ashton Gate.
  3. Agree, when I played I had deceptive pace. I looked a lot faster than I actually was! Joking aside it has been said he is the quickest over a timed distance. We lack players with real explosive speed. Take their goal today their player went away from ours after the charge down. We do not possess a player with pace like that. Yeboah may be the only one in the future.
  4. Problem is if one of your players is sin binned for say 10/15 mins it's simple to set your formation up to be negative and contain the opponents. How many times have 10 men held out. It's not like rugby, which presumably the rule is being copied from, where it's basically man against man and you have one "extra" player who has no one marking them. I think in rugby it's been proved that if a team has a player sin binned for 10 minutes that usually allows the opposing team to score 7/9 points.
  5. Not sure what the above age group was supposed to have been exposed to. Only drink was a temptation in my formative years. Pub opening times 5.30 - 10.30. pm. May have got 11.0. pm in the dance halls on a Saturday. Betting was on course except a few illegal bookies houses dotted around and drugs was stuff those Rag students whiffed on occasionally.
  6. My memory of Castle St was mainly of bombed buildings with just a few left standing. One was the cinema, think it may have been named the Regent that mainly showed cartoons and Pathe News as well as a film. With Christmas due shortly it reminds me of going to the Co-op to see Father Christmas. First a ride on the train. Well sat in a mocked up carriage with the scenery going around to simulate a train journey. Then see Father Christmas for our present. Boy did we look forward to these trips. At bit different to the over hyped, money grabbing, commercialised, maximum profit generating season we have to endure these days. Oh for the old days.
  7. Not sure if "nothing" will count when supplying your divi number. Anyway anyone is welcome to use the number if they can sus it. Will have to update the Co-op with our current details in order to reap the new rich rewards.
  8. Prior to Fairfax House Mum used to drag us all to the Co-ops on Castle St. First to collect her accumulated dividend, then spend the vouchers in the Co-op stores. I can still remember Mum's and Grandad's dividend numbers **1** and **2**( not going to divulge them on here). One for the oldies.
  9. FA Cup 2000 see 11v11 Bristol City v Kettering Town.
  10. Yeah, but you'd never have to bother using your indicators again.
  11. I'm in Japan and just woke up. I don't effing believe it.
  12. Les would sprint on with the magic sponge. Player would then stamp his foot to the ground and off we'd go again.
  13. BigKiwi hope this will help with the change in language.
  14. Been out of the PA game for a long time. Used to look after Ashton Gate pre Dolman stand. Wide open spaces to cover in the Open end etc, etc. The legend Dennis Langley on the mic and for Hospital Broadcast. Announcer needs to be just that not a bloody DJ. Oh and we did manage to use frequency shifters in event rooms where a mic needed to be in indoor areas with speakers. Probably old hat now.
  15. Subbuteo spread out on the meal table anyone?
  16. As we're on F1 analogies, when your winning it's all down to the driver (Joey). When you're not winning it's the fault of the car ( the team). Yes, sounds about right.
  17. Surely should be paying them for having him.
  18. Surely you mean every time he fields the ball.
  19. I'm not a Maguire lover but the 10 better than him are they English?
  20. Oh so different from my schoolboy years playing football from the late 1950s. Played in the school junior and senior teams on a Saturday morning then in the afternoon the Federation of Boys Clubs League that started at under 14 level, although we were all 12 year old, then progressed to under 16s at 14 years old. Only adult present was either a school master or Boys Club leaders who normally refereed the games. Whilst the school masters were usually sports teachers some of the Club leaders didn't have a clue of the laws of the game. We made are own way to games travelling all over Bristol on the bus or on our bikes. We had great fun and made lifelong friends. I appreciate that there are many adults who give up tremendous amounts of their time in many capacities to enable the youngster leagues to function these days. However, a lot teams appear to exist to just win and that puts pressure on the youngsters to perform at the expense, at times, to the detriment of enjoyment. As with most things these days it's all so different to us oldies.
  21. Week after week this team was consistently the one picked. The names just rolled off the tongue. The correct player in the correct position. Keeper, two full backs centre half, two half backs, two wingers, two inside forwards and a centre forward.
  22. Had been supporting City for 24 years prior to this team and ever since. Hands down and easily the best team in my era.
  23. But that's only when he sees a quick opportunity.
  24. Does anyone read the "Post" now to know what it's reporting?
  25. Please stop this mockery it's driving me up the wall.
